Why do people not understand that it doesn’t matter what the mom does, Rue has to want it herself before anything will change. Why would the mom continue to suffer with her daughters abuse, when she doesn’t want to change? She has another daughter she wants to make sure is fine later in life. Leslie was in the right here, anyone that disagrees has never had a really destructive addict in their lives.
What’s sad is that it’s still her daughter but she had to make that choice for the betterment of rue and herself because rue has to change on her own.
I had a brother who was an addict. One day I told myself I was done worrying and trying to help him and a few years later he overdosed and I tell myself if I had tried harder to help him he’d still be here

Right? She denies that she thinks of only herself but has the audacity to think being told “fine get high and destroy your life” meant a good thing and wasn’t coming from a deep well of pain and hopelessness. Her mom saw both of her children were drowning and only one of them wanted to be able to swim.

That’s why I avoided my family like the plague during my addiction. I hated the fact that I would cause my parents pain, so as long as they couldn’t see me, they wouldn’t worry. But family worries regardless. I felt so ashamed that the illness overrode my love for them

I do feel like Leslie was genuinely tired of fighting Rue & trying to get her in seeing the value of her own life…BUT she also was doing a reverse tactic on her in this moment. By shifting to sounding like she didn’t care anymore, calling her a crackhead, and basically saying Gia’s life is more important to her it was supposed to stir something up in Rue. When addicts are used to you always caring and being there they might take advantage of that so when you step back it can be shocking. Plus Rue cares about Gia too and doesn’t want her to fall down her path so when Leslie tells her she’s falling off, it’s shocking to her. She was so busy focusing on trying to get a fix, she wasn’t paying attention to Gia’s behavior. Deep Down Leslie doesn’t want her daughter to die but she was just running out of ways to get through to her.

Well, it's more like letting addicts suffer through their choices, instead of coddling them. My dad had to be cut off before he got better (well before he met my mom), because addicts are desperate liars. They're victims, but victims aren't automatically good people. It really is sink or swim, when it comes to getting over it
Yes I agree this can also be dangerous too tho…making the addict feel even more useless and worthless. Depends on the person. That shit had the opposite effect on me and made me not care even more because it just confirmed what I already believed and that was my parents loving my sibilings more then me. Again getting cut off didn’t work for me either I was like well whatever I belong here. Rock bottom didn’t work because I just kept falling lower and lower and that was comfortable for me. What worked was a purpose. I got pregnant and was like well, I have to be clean for 9 months I can do that and give the baby to a loving home where they will have a better life. Then I loved the baby and realized only I could protect her from the trauma I endured as a kid. She was my first purpose and from then on I found new purposes along the way. Connection and purpose are what addicts need to want to heal.
She wasn't even saying Gia's life was more important though, she said "if I had to choose between losing one daughter or two I'll fight to save her". She still cared about Rue, but she didn't want to lose Gia as well. She wanted to focus on Gia who was more willing to accept help than allow Gia to spiral while her efforts to help Rue were in vain

The way the mom casually eats ice cream as she tells Rue without any tears or stress, "You wanna kill yourself with drugs? Go ahead" really shows just how exhausted she is. There's nothing left- no money, no trust, no peace of mind, no energy at all. Leslie can't keep pouring from an empty cup for Rue, especially when all she gets from it is betrayal, lies, threats, etc. Once Rue becomes an adult, if she wants to keep destroying herself, that's on her. Nobody can say her mom didn't fight like hell when trying to save her.
It's not like she has any real prospects after high school, so I doubt she's going to be able to just move out either.

Prospects or not, if she carries on with that same behavior at 18, her mom can legally throw her out. She's not obligated to care for another adult who endangers her or her other child.

Not in this situation, because it’s the mom’s fault that she’s an addict in the first place. She left that medication out for her children to find. She’s trying to make herself feel better for her own shortcomings. It’s a completely different story if it’s a child. She became addicted on her mother’s watch. She doesnt want to be a drug addict, she just wants the pain to stop. The only coping mechanism she knows from a young age is drug use, and its her mothers fault for that. Its Leslie’s responsibility to keep those girls safe, sober, and teach them healthy ways to deal with emotional pain. Instead, she left out prescription medication for them to find.

La llevó a rehabilitación, la llevó a narcóticos anónimos y durante la 1era temporada podemos observar que realiza un exhaustivo seguimiento de la sobriedad de Rue. Su madre siempre está preocupada cuando Rue vuelve muy tarde a la casa y le hace pruebas para asegurarse que no se esté drogando. @@donaldmanuain7727I can try. Anger indicates that you’re still using mental space for the person, situation, etc. Exerting that energy and spending time thinking about it. Indifference is when you stop caring, you move past it and don’t let it hold anymore space in your life. It’s why they say it’s a fine line between hate and love, and that indifference is the opposite of love not hate.
While anger & indifference are 2 different emotions, they are very much connected.
In psychology, there is a theory called the scaffold of neutrality/apathy. It's basically how people start to develop emotional neutrality or boundaries, depending on perspective. Frustration is the middle of the scaffold, with anger being above that, and indifference being the final level before apathy sets in. Many times, people who are no longer willing to try are angry but feel hopeless about options, so they become indifferent. Those 2 levels definitely have a big grey area.

Yeah, but it was kinda necessary. Rue put Leslie & Gia through Hell. No, Rue didn't mean to do it, but Leslie just got tired of trying to save somebody who doesn't want to save herself, because, at the end of the day, Rue herself has to WANT to get sober.

Also guys her character is 17, when she turns 18 her mom will not be able to help her the way she has been. If rue runs away to go get high at 18 her mom can’t have the cops bring her back, she will have aged out many government programs, and would not be able to legally make rue do anything rue doesn’t want to do. Her mom is not a bad mom.

As an ex addict I had the worst effect on my family, luckily got my shit together beyond the point rue was at but I brought nothing but problems and drama in my house and had an influence on my younger siblings. No parent wants their child to be an addict or give up on them but it's not just about you. If what you do is effecting everyone around you and you don't want change these are the results.

She tried to get her help and get cleaned and rue keeps going back to drugs. You get exhausted saving someone who doesn’t want to be saved for you just leave them and let them rock and help the person who actually needs to be saved

This is one of the toughest scenes in Euphoria and I love it. The mom just went IN several times in this 2 minute clip, and it's not to piss her off. What the mom said was all caused by Rue's actions, she didn't get on that state of mind on her own. She's been helping so much, being supportive and it's like she had enough. People have limits.
HAS she been helping so much? She sent her to rehab ONCE and then did not check up on her for MONTHS while Rue was doing drugs.

She sent her to rehab, ONCE, where other people dealt with it and then did not supervise her kid at all. All she did was make her pee in a cup which one google search could tell her is not a fool proof way of getting the truth. It's the hardest point to reach with addicts, especially when you deeply love them. Rock bottom looks different for everyone but they'll never reach that point if people in their lives continue to enable them. This scene was the first time in the show where it hit me that Rue might actually have a shot at staying clean.
People who disagree with Leslie’s tactic weren’t paying attention to the storyline as much as they should or live in a privileged upbringing and have never dealt with someone like Rue and the struggles that come with it. This is a last ditch tactic to get Rue to realize that she has to want this. Because this constant cycle with her is tiring for the mom and harmful to Gia.
She has another daughter, Rue isn’t her only child. She has to pour the same amount of effort she does into Rue’s life into Gia. Rue isn’t the only one who lost a parent, Gia lost her dad too. You don’t see her abusing substances. So it’s not fair and Rue is being extremely selfish. This is the only way to get Rue to change at this point.
What it has to do with priveleged life? I always considered Rue and her family as middle class, they don't seem to struggle financially.
@@MrLarva-sn7tzprivilege doesn’t always equate to finances. In this case, it would have to do with not going through the trauma of losing a spouse/parent, and dealing with an abusive child/sibling because of addiction.
For example, I’ve dealt with an abusive brother because he’s an addict. But my friend has had the privilege to not go through that. It’s not a bad thing or an insult… it’s a wonderful thing that people don’t go through that but at the same time, they need to stop acting as if the people who’ve truly lived it are wrong or giving their opinions on what we should’ve done instead, because it’s always followed by judgement.
Considering how common addiction is, it's pretty illogical how everyone is saying "oh my gosh, if you care about addicts at all and don't want them all to die then clearly you've never met one!!!!" Like uh no lol

Otherwise, in this way, those who have never been in a car accident can be called privileged. Privileges are precisely about external influence, from society and the state.

If you were born into a healthy, happy family with both of your parents present and supportive of you and you never really struggled, even if your parents weren’t well off because they always made sure you had everything you needed, you had a privileged upbringing, and it’s privileged because it’s not something everyone has the privilege of having. Most people wouldn’t call the life of a person who was born into a rich but broken family where your family, despite their wealth, doesn’t take care of you, you don’t see most of money, and suffer abuse from them a “privileged life” solely because of economic and social standing. There’s still something that the less well off family has over this hypothetical person. All their needs, emotional and otherwise, are met, and that’s not something everyone can enjoy.
This is what every addict needs to hear. No coddling, no fighting, no desperation for their love and attention. Drop them and move on.

I lived through this, and I can't imagine my life if my mom had picked me. It didn't end there, things got worse and worse until I finally moved out three days after I graduated high school and never looked back. I love my family to death and owe them so much. I understand why they chose to help my brother, he needed it. But it wasn't until watching this scene that I realized that I was ever an option. All this to say, for the Gia's of the world, Leslie isn't a bad mom.

I didn't care much for the second season but this scene hit close to home. I have a cousin that was an addict. She had left home 3 months and we couldnt find it her. No matter how much we begged her, took her to rehabs, she couldnt be helped. Its almost like she thrived on seeing us so worried about her. My aunt and uncle did this hoping it'd snap her out of it. It made her move out. I'm happy to say it was my her son, my nephew that saved her life. She's now 7 years sober and thriving. 🙌 💚
I didn't particularly love the writing in this season but this scene was wo well written and well acted. I loved the peaceful tone of their conversation eventhough its nature was pretty hard.
The fact that Rue's first reaction was like a happy child's when her mom said she could do whatever want.....

It seems so casual the way she’s delivering this crushing sentiment while just enjoying her ice cream. I think this scene was so heartbreakingly real and accurate. The fight scenes with Rue and her mom are so painful to watch because that’s really how people fight when they’re at their wits end. Rue never has time to fully feel the consequences of her actions because she gets high. When she’s sober she deeply regrets her actions and also hates what she inevitably ends up doing.
The mom is clearly doing reverse psychology. Of course she still cares about rue.
I mean she wasn’t throwing Rue out or saying Rue was dead to her. She clearly cares, but she’s making it known that she’s reached a point where she can only put action behind that caring to Gia now since Rue pulled away from it and she’s at her limit.

Her mom was being genuine. She’s not gonna save rue again if rue really does go back to drugs. She’s not abandoning her but she’s not gonna help her either.
Maybe, but let's be honest. Rue has caused so much damage that it is hard to blame her mother for giving up trying to help Rue.
I think Leslie giving Rue this harsh talk helped Rue see just how much her decisions have actually been affecting them. She hasn’t tried this harsh talk with Rue before, she’s always coddled her and pushed for her to go to rehab. That’s why sobriety never stuck with Rue, because she never wanted it for herself. Allowing Rue to make that decision for herself is what ultimately saved her. At the end of the day you can want an addict to be sober all you want, but if they don’t want it for themselves you’re fighting a losing battle.
You can’t save an addict. Make peace with this. They have to want to save themselves. There is nothing that the mom hasn’t done to try and help her daughter. It’s all on Rue now.

This is a powerful scene, I feel like this was transformative for Rue, for her to accept full responsibility of her actions
Hearing Rue mom saying she gives up on her and would choose to save her little sister over Rue is a lot to hear but this was all of Rue part. She’s almost 18 and refusing for help and abusing everyone in the process. So much to the point where there’s nothing her mom can do but focus on her younger child that needs her most.

Sometimes, I remember his beautiful story from Bojack Horseman. Gina said that in her first life saver course, her instructor taught her that they're will be times where she'll see someone drowning. She'll feel the urge to save this person, but she'll have to restrain herself because if she does so, the person drowning, normally seeking for help, will eventually drag her too. Not only she wouldn't be able to save this person, but herself too...
Rue's mom did anything she could, and if I'm correct, the U.S.A are pretty expensive, especially in health care. Gia needs her mom too, and they both deserve a good life.
FORGIVE MY WALL OF A REPLY, BUT...
I think of the drowning analogy when it comes to my ex. He never properly addressed problems in his past, and started becoming dysfunctional due to depression. He stopped work, slept all day, stopped socializing and getting sunshine, and the house was falling into disrepair and looking more and more like an episode of "Hoarders." When I tried gently introducing the idea of therapy, he refused- "I went to a psychiatrist once, and it was a huge waste of time, so what's the point in going back?" I then tried to help him in other ways- I'd clean up after him, calmly absorb his outbursts, and rub his back per his request for hours on end each day. Even after telling him my hands were tired, he'd nonetheless tell me to keep going. When I would cry or let him know I was worried, he'd insist our problems weren't a big deal. When I suggested that *I* should at least start therapy for my own stress, he lashed out and said I didn't need to go. I also didn't need to work anymore; I should just let his mom (who was very much enabling him) pay all the bills. In a last ditch effort to save him, I went to his mom one last time about getting him help, and if he refused once more, I had to leave. You know what she said to me? "Can you at least stay with him until this Thursday? His dad and I are leaving on a cruise tomorrow, and I need you two to take care of my cats. I don't want to risk him going to jail if you're gone and I'm also not here." It was UNBELIEVABLE.
I tried to grab my most essential items and leave in my car, but my ex woke up to what I was doing and physically restrained me in the house, and trapped me there in hysterics all night until I was able to grab my phone and threaten to call the cops. Thank God I at least managed to get his mom to take his gun out of the house BEFORE all this, because dude was absolutely unstable. He asked me if I loved him, and I just stayed silent. I was exhausted at this point and had nothing to give- not love and not even hate. Just... nothing. I guess my silent indifference pissed him off, so when he got no answer from me except that I would call the police if he tried to keep me from leaving, he gave me this dark look, called me selfish, and said *I* don't know how to stick through tough situations like he does. Later when I escaped to a hotel a good distance away, his mom badgered me about a missing USB charger and implied that I stole it. Of course I didn't, but it just went to show how she was somehow more mad at ME for leaving an unhealthy situation, rather than at her son or herself for helping to create it.
Rue's story really reminds me of my ex because she only sees her pain, such as with losing her dad or when she's going through withdrawals. The pain she then inflicts on her mom, her sister, her friends, etc, is always irrelevant to her, and the only time she acknowledges any of them is when she stops getting her way. Between Rue and her mom, as selfish as some might think it sounds, it's ultimately better for one person to swim away and leave the other to drown (especially if that's what they insist on doing), rather than have two bodies in the water.

Some people are like Jerry from "Rick and Morty": they act like a prey but are in fact predators, using empathy, pity and remorse from people just to use and abuse them selfishly.
And for your ex's mom, she was counting on YOU to take care of HER child because she was probably exhausted but she's still a mother...
You did all You could but, You cannot save someone who doesn't want to save itself. Worse : they'll project some of their (if not "all") problems /defaults on people, regardless if they are relatives or not.

You are correct about treatment being expensive in the US. An outpatient program is roughly $5000 for 90 days. In patient private programs or way more than that. There are programs like AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and NA (Narcotics Anonymous) which have minimal cost (usually donations) and some people are quite successful at them. The downside is that these programs are informal and run by the members. There are no mental health professionals involved. I do know someone who is 20 years sober using AA so they can work.

I had to make a hard decision when my brother stole from his dealer & offered to give them my youngest sister as payment. He spit in my face when I called the cops & had him arrested to protect my sister. It hurt too. But my family was more important. Right now he’s in court ordered rehab.

@@sazukickthe pain is still there. I’ve been having a chance to go see him multiple times but I’ve had emotional breakdowns every chance. My sister was only 12 when he did this. I worked with the cops to get that dealer off the street as well, which led to the bust of a drug ring. I knew who the man was because I had seen him wandering around my neighborhood & my mom caught my brother speaking to him. I pawned off my grandfathers gold watch to pay back the dealer & got my family off the hook. According to the dealer,my brother lied & said my sister was 18, not 12. Even he was disgusted by that. I had nightmares for a while about all this.
This show is so real to me because Rue is a spitting image of my brother. Especially the scenes where Rue terrorized her family. My brother attacked my other sister one night in a drug fueled rage. I had to get him off of her, he grabbed me & cracked my head against the wall. My dad was the one to beat up his own son to subdue him until the cops came. But my dad kept allowing him back with us. It was a nightmare. One night he got high & tried to skin our dog alive. And when we’d lock the dog in our rooms with us, he’d try to break the door down to get him. We couldn’t bring our infant cousin around him either. And when he showed up to functions high, people began to notice. My decision saved a lot of people.
So I had that choice. My family or one person. Because that person is not my brother. And I don’t know if my brother will ever come back.

She made a good choice. It's heartbreaking that she said it like that to Rue but at the same time I understand that she was just tired of trying to save someone who can't be saved and what that's doing to her other child. In life you always have to make tough choices and this was one of them
Rue's mom confronting Rue reminds me of a friend on mine who has two sons. Years ago, his oldest son started hanging out with a couple of junkies at school, and they introduced him to drugs. This resulted in him becoming an addict and as a result, he gave up on his grades, and all he cared about was hanging out with his doped up new friends and doing drugs. He had been an A student before, but his new lifestyle caused his grades to suffer and he gave up on his extra curriculums as well. Eventually when he got his first F, that's when my friend sat him down and told him; “Look, you’re my first born child and I will always love you, but you are not my only child. If you want to throw your life away, like those pals of yours, I can’t stop you. You are supposed to be an example to your younger brother and if this is the example you are going to set, then you can be a lesson to him instead. I will cut you loose. I’m not going to lose two sons. I may not be able to protect you from yourself, but I will protect your brother from you. Do you understand what I’m telling you?”
After that he straightened out his act and graduated high school with a high GPA and recently graduated college with Summa Cum Laude. This goes to show that kids secretly want and need boundaries set by their parents. All kids want to feel like they are loved by their parents. But at the same time, by not establishing any boundaries, this gives them the impression that they can do whatever they want and their parents will not care. Or at the very least they’re too busy, scared, or feel helpless to discipline them properly and they can continue to get away with their bad habits/behaviors because there will be no consequences.
That is so false and there is so much wrong with that it's laughable. You aren't responsible for your younger siblings, not for setting a good example either. You CAN be there for multiple kids even in this situation. You don't give up on a child or tell them you'll "cut them loose" just bc "oh, your sibling may copy you." Even just as a "tactic" that's disgusting, and that's not parenting or setting a boundary, that's either using harmful manipulation tactics or giving up and neglecting your child, depending on context. It's not discipline, it's fear mongering. You can love a child, make them feel loved, AND set actual boundaries too. If he changed it's bc that fear of losing his family, being left behind, etc got to his head and that's not a good thing. That will stay, in a negative way, permanently. Cutting off or hurting one child is never a "lesson" to the other, it's failing both, it's lazy, and the "good" that could possibly come from it will never come close to the harm. Not to mention that could actually make it 10x worse, especially if someone has attachment or abandonment issues, or if they are already struggling with feeling alone and that's why they are doing drugs in the first place. Parents should always be the ones who are there for you, no matter what, no exceptions, and to say you'll leave them behind over something like drugs and a certain group of friends? Yeah, no. I don't believe this story is even true, but if it is, then L dad.

Kids grow up and reach a point where they can make choices for themselves and no matter how much the drugs influence them, they DO still have a choice and sometimes it takes THIS kind of pressure to get them to want to help themselves and that's the entire point of what Rues mom AND what this persons friend did; we can't BE saved by anyone unless we WANT to be saved, same goes for our kids when they start to spiral for any reason. If you are or become a parent in the future and one of your kids becomes an addict of any kind and you don't need to use this last ditch effort not only to hopefully save that kid but also protect yourself and the rest of your family from them, all power to you that's great. But LESLIE had to do it with Rue, @barbiquearea 's friend felt the need to do it with his son and MANY other parents even right now as seconds go by have to do it. It's fine to hold parents accountable when they make bad decisions about how to raise or help their kids but, and I say this respectfully, drug abuse is a very, VERY specific life threatening situation that affects not only the addict but EVERYONE that loves them and when it reaches the point of damn near no return, you have to make the hardest decisions as a parent in order to hopefully, not always, but hopefully protect your family AND save your child from themself and I'm not too sure you understand that.
I’m 3 years sober February 2nd of 2024. Rues mom was essentially an enabler & my mom is also an enabler to an extent. She loves her kids but she enabled me & my older brother while our dad tried to teach us the tough route. It took both parents eventually cutting me off fully as a grown adult to save myself & I still didn’t save myself for nearly 3 years after they cut me off. I hadn’t lived there in a long while but I was always able to count on my mom emotionally and financially until I wasn’t. And that eventually allowed me to hit a rock bottom. Now 3 years sober on maintenance, and I’m getting married in March .
Congrats on both your sobriety and your wedding. I know someone who has been sober for awhile and I know it's something that can be difficult at times. It seems to me that getting sober is hard but maintaining that sobriety through all of life's triggers is hard as well.
I think Rue first began to realize her self centeredness when Ali talked about the affects that seeing her OD must have on Gia
I wish my mother cared to do that when my sister was struggling with addiction. As much as it sounds terrible, my sister wasn't putting in any effort to get better, and even when I was hospitalised for my health, there were no visits and help through my chronic condition because my family was too focused on trying to get her sober. She's still alive and I'm grateful for that, but I sometimes yearn for my parents to remember that they have more than one child.

Glad she took Ali’s advice especially on him being a recovering addict on how to deal with Rue. It’s harsh but Rue needs to see the reality of the harm she has caused if she genuinely wants to change.
I hate the title because that’s not what this conversation was even about. It’s about a mom not sacrificing one daughter on an alter because she’s so preoccupied with another. She’s telling Rue “if you die, you die. But I cannot keep saving you at the expense of Gia”. She loves rue and loves gia but time and again it’s Gia who suffers because her big sister consumes her mother at all times. Gia deserves to live too

Tbh if my mom said this to me I’d probably give up. It’s dehumanizing to hear that especially from your own mom. Point of parenting is to be there for all your kids no matter how tough it gets. She signed up to be a parent so she needs to be there for both Rue and Gia.

Rue almost assaulted Gia and Leslie and and insulted them constantly, stole money and lied. She was a danger to the family. You have never had to deal with this. It truly is the most draining experience ever. Leslie did the right thing. Sticking by Rue was hurting her and Gia.
Everybody gets to this point with an addict, IMO. You have to disconnect emotionally and come to the terms with the fact that you can’t save them from themselves. It’s the only way to get through it, whatever the outcome.

This is the reason I keep watching. The show has its issues, but Rue and her family are carrying hard for me.
There's a lot of valid criticism of this show but you can't say it doesn't have some of the realest moments in TV.
The mom was 100% right finally ! Notice how rue all of a sudden straightens out after ... since the attention and struggle isnt on her anymore... yeah
With addiction and mental illness, the only one that can save you is you. People will help and support you on your journey, but that's it, it's your journey to have and it's about making that first step. Rue's mom has every right to say this because she's done all she could and Rue had proven time and time again that she was not ready to quit. Her mom has given up on her and it's all she could've really done at that point.
It’s so annoying and exhausting dealing with a person on drugs they have to want to do or else they destroy everything around them I relate to this caused I had a friend on drugs and it was crazy asf those stories are for another time

Rue has OCD in the beginning you would see her count steps and stuff like that I wish they would have really focused on her disability and how it affects her mind to make her take drugs instead of just focusing on the drug addiction part of it. Her OCD makes it hard for her to process and deal with “normal” life around her.
Exactly. The writers forgot that. For they, it's kind of the father's Rue death it's enough to explain the all situation that Rue it's passing throw with the drugs.

As someone whos never had an addict in my life and was never an addict myself, I can still totally understand Leslie here. She has done all she can to help Rue, she is exhausted. All she can do now is make sure Rue doesn't tear the rest of her family down with her. She needs to do damage control. Gia is dealing with the effects of losing her dad and her destructive addict sister all on her own because her mom is too busy trying to help Rue. Its not fair. If Rue doesnt care about her own life or about getting clean for the sake of her family, why should Leslie care anymore? But still deep inside she is hoping Rue will eventually change, that her words will work as a sort of reverse psychology as a last ditch effort.
I can’t imagine what it’s like to be a crackhead. This uncontrollable sensation to do drugs. Parents are people too. They’re only human.
As the sister of an addict , I silently let her go about two years ago. My mother still enables her. It cause trauma for me seeing her in certain stages , and my mom always focused so much on her. I see some comments and it makes me wonder if certain people have ever been around an addict. Most times it’s the mother who is the last to let go. Like she said “ I can’t convince you that your life is important” and I got to that point I feel like my mom never saw or acknowledged the effects that my sibling had on me.
I let go and moved out but lately I have been seeing from the outside how it’s been effecting my brother. He’s a completely different person now.
I feel a lot of sympathy for Rue but she needed this wake up call. Leslie can’t keep enabling this cycle.
Sometimes hitting rock bottom means the family has to turn their back on you.
I feel like most parents care more about the bad seeds ova the ones that truly need their love and attention. I grew up like this.. being the eldest child on my mama’s and daddy’s side but never even getting any attention. I’ve never even had a bday party. I have my own kids now and I pray to god they don’t tell me I’ve repeated the one mistake that I acknowledged as a child.

Rue isn’t a bad person, her father was dying in front of her and she took his pills, she was extremely young and couldn’t know where it would lead her in life, she was so young and did not know how to grieve, she used drugs as an escape from that. It doesn’t make her a bad person.

It is the exact same thing to them. If they don’t want it, they don’t. They will burn you to keep themselves warm and then are confused why you don’t trust them after scarring you. The title of the video is misleading. Leslie did not claim that she valued Gia's life over Rue's. She just claimed that she is treating each dependents with equal care. When Rue comes of age, the mother will no longer (and is not obligated to) care for her.

Damn this shit hits different rewatching this. But except I’m looking at it now as I’m Gia. My older brother was so far in his addiction when I was in high school that eventually my mom gave up on her side and left it in his hands if he wanted to get sober. My mom did everything she can to try to stop me from going in that direction. I definitely did typical stuff like stay out past curfew, but there was so many times I look back now and think of all the opportunities I was presented to really indulge in different substances and I choice not to because I didn’t want to hurt my mom the way my brother did. Thankfully he’s been sober a few years now.

Her daughter is a drug addict completely different. Things change legally for you once you turn 18. Your parents can’t have the cops bring you back if they catch you getting high. Any government programs she could put her daughter into she can’t because rue would be a legal adult. When you deal with addicts there is a point you have to let go and let them choose if they want to get sober or not. Especially if you have other kids to raise.

my best friend’s mom when i was 21 take out she of her house, she had a addiction to alcohol and finally after 2 relapses she could no more, she was my friend and went to my house i didtn want she was in the street but the way she looking to me when i said “your mom are right, you feel you can arruined the others life for u adiction like you do with yours, and she hurts when you doing this shit”
