  • It's our first time in Germany and we are taking a road trip through Bavaria, spending 3 incredible days exploring the Bavarian Alps region. We visit the fairy tale-like Neuschwanstein Castle, hike through the stunning Leutasch Gorge, and discover the charming town of Mittenwald, with its beautiful Lüftlmalerei murals. Our final day takes us to one of Germany's tallest peaks, where we take a cable car ride up to the top with stunning views before spending the afternoon in Oberammergau. Throughout the trip, we savor regional treats like Obatzda, pretzels, and hunt for Kaiserschmarrn pancakes. From iconic castles to quaint alpine towns, natural wonders to unique architecture, we have completely fallen in love with Bavaria and can't wait to return.

I have spent many happy holidays in Germany and Austria and these countries are a wonderful part of Europe, with many easy hiking trails. My favourite trip in Austria is from the train station at Jenbach where a small steam train takes you up into the mountains to the town of Achensee, where there is a huge mountain lake. Off the train onto a lake steamer which stops off at various landings/villages round the lake, returning to Achensee in time to get the train back to the valley. A really lovely day out (weather permitting!). Really enjoying your video, brings back memories! Almdudler, mmm!

Culture and history is a big deal to many u.s visitors but it's something many Brits take for granted. You guys remind me very much of my host family that welcomed me in my teenage years to their home in the Midwest. I love them very much and invited them to visit Germany many years later when I had the means to do it. As a German, my description of what reminds me of them in you will be stereotypical in its German honesty/rudeness my host family loved to hate: You seem so kind, openminded, appreciative and slightly overweight ;). So American in a good way. Have fun.

It's believed that Disney modelled his castles on Neuschwanstein. Looks like you've done the Romantische Strasse. As to is this the most beautiful place in Europe, it has a call for sure. But you need to check out Austria (a few miles away) and Switzerland. They are both stunning places. Edit: The Zugspitze is the highest mountain in Germany. The summit is actually on the border with Austria. They used to stamp passports up there. Don't know if they still do. Edit2: Bayern (Bavaria) blends modern and old in a way that is unique. It is referred to as Laptop und Lederhosen (Laptops and leather shorts)

I guess the parking machines were working, but what most Americans aren't aware of is the following: Card is not equal card! Most Americans use credit cards like American Express, Visa and so on. Most Germans do not. If a German pays with a card it is most likely what you would call a "debit card" instead of a credit card. A debit card is a card from your bank which accesses the associated bank account. So the money will not be "a loan" like with a credit card, but it will be deducted from your bank account immediately. Okay I cannot be sure if those parking machines weren't out of order, but my suspicion is, that they would have worked with such a debit card and simply are not made for credit cards.
Edit: Wow, you discovered Almdudler! Yes it is an Austrian lemonade which entered the market at the end of the 50ies. And I love, love, love it. I buy it not often though...... because I know if I had it at my permanent disposal I would not drink anything else any more! (Despite coffee of course! LOL)
