    i did the hike from tegernsee to schliersee years ago. it was one of my best hiking experience. always go back to tegernsee. it is my second fav. after königsee. allgäu in my opinion is still the best bavarian alps region. Town of Oberstdorf is such a gem.

    Were did a day trip to do the Zugspitz and it was closed! One of the two days of the year it's closed for maintenance! I was gutted, it was the number one on my list. The tourist office suggested we take the bus to the Wank resort and ride the gondola to the top of the mountain there. It was a wonderful runner up prize! Beautiful views in all directions and a nice beer hall on the very top for lunch. We ended up going to where the locals go to camp and to hike and it was well worth it.

    Hey, thanks for this video! I just came back from a trip in Bavaria. I saw your video and I decided to do your suggestions of Walchensee and Eisenberg ruins. They were both awesome! And I have some suggestions to add to anyone who thinks about doing them and likes to hike.
    So When I did Eisenberg and Hohenfreyberg ruins, I started the day quite early (started the hike at around 9:30), so I finished with the ruins by 12. After lunch I hiked to lake Weissensee (very easy to navigate, there are signs everywhere and you can get a map at Eisenberg tourist information). It's around 1 and a half hours hike, and it's very well worth it. After that I hiked for around 2 hours more through lakes Alatsee, Obersee and Mittersee and the waterfall of the river Lech back to Fussen. It wasn't an easy day, but if you like hiking, see ruins, great views and great lakes, it's a very recommended day in my opinion.
    About Walchensee, if you are in good shape I highly recommend climbing up that mountain! The trail is not easy, but it's very rewarding and fun. After I finished the hike I ate at the restaurant on the top and took the cable car down, Then I took a bus to Klais and hiked around lakes Barmsee, Grubsee and Wagenbruchsee (yes I really like lakes), it is also very much worth it in my opinion, especially Wagenbruchsee, I think it was my favourite place in Bavaria.
    Have fun!

    I live near Schliersee, and I much prefer it to Tegernsee. It is smaller, calmer, and the scenery is reminiscent of a fjord. You can cycle around it in an hour's time and stop at the Rixner Alm on the western lakeside for refreshments. There are many places to take a dip.
    I love it most when the sun is setting. If someone comes past SUP-paddling, I feel removed to the Wild West with an Indian paddling by.
    All in all Schliersee is less touristy and more laid back than Tegernsee.

    Servus. I enjoy your videos. They are well conceived, shot and edited. You and your wife are engaging and likable. But in the spirit of constructive criticism, you are more and more veering into a narrative style that seems breathlessly overwrought. Slow down and calm down; show more and "tell" less. Or at least with less scripted and practiced excitement. You are truly a talented writer and narrator but you are leaning into that talent too obviously and heavily. Less will be more.

    I'm soooo torn.... Heading to Munich next summer. I was there roughly 20 years ago and have wanted to return ever since. Now I'll get to show my wife and kids. We're staying for 3 nights and I'm so torn between Weltenburg Abbey, Tegernsee, Mittenwald, Partnachlamm or Neuschwanstein for a little hiking and some views for a day trip. My kids are 11 and 13 and they've done some hiking before but nothing too crazy. I want everyone to get a good authentic experience for 1 day. What say you?

    • @NearFromHome
      @NearFromHome  Před rokem

      If you have a car, then do Weltenburg hands down, if you wake up early you can even stop by Regensburg for dinner. Tegernsee is a great option by train, though the hike might be too much. Not wanting to be out all day will be a bit of a problem as all of those things take a full day to experience though. Camille and I do also offer proper itinerary checks on our website if you need even more help though, as we are always happy to give as much advice as we can.

    • @NearFromHome
      @NearFromHome  Před rokem +1

      Thanks! Ben and I always argue about Tegernsee. He loves it, and I am very "meh" about it. Love Eibsee, and have never been to Ferchensee. We visited Königsee once, and found it beautiful, but waaaaay too crowded.

      @@NearFromHome Yes, crowds are a problem at Königssee. I only go there on regular workdays, never on weekends or holidays. And of course, also beautiful Ramsau and Hintersee are just around the corner.
      Ferchensee is a nice little hike from Mittenwald.
      It seems you like "not-too-difficult" hikes with a great view. As a day trip from Munich, you should check out the ridge hike from the top of the Fellhorn via Schlappoldkopf and Alpe Schlappold to the middle station of the Fellhorn cable car (Tour details: 250m up, 400m down, 4.5km length).

Also, thanks for the strawberry picking video, we just had to do that, and it was a blast (and very yummy). Question: why haven't you done more videos in the immediate area around München? Nice, well-informed selection. I am from Munich and I knew the first five, quite well actually, but not number six.
    Some additional recommendations: Regensburg, Landshut, Scheyarn, Dachauer Land (Altomuenster, Markt Indersdorf), Diessen/Ammersee, Spitzingsee, Wasserburg, and my personal favorite: Kloster Seeon.

      Thanks so much! I'm always worried locals will find this list too easy hahaha. We have been to many of those places, but still want to check out some others! Loved Landshut, Spitzingsee, and Diessen. We are specifically interested in checking out Wasserburg and Kloster Seeon. :D

    You should have added those video links in the description box, had to search a lot for those and its frustrating. Great content, but only not subscribing because of this.
