  • Commuting really piles on the miles. This is the first video featuring my daily. It's a 2003 and she needed the Honda recommended service, new tires to handle the rain this winter, and some upgrades! Including: a 17/44 AFAM sprocket swap, DID ZVM-X 520 conversion, and a stainless steel brake line kit!

    Cheers Man. Great vid. I am a 67 yo owner of a 2006 Italian-made European-version CB900 I bought new in 2007, here in Poland. What a great bike. I had it always maintained by the best motorcycle mechanic in Poland, and she's still clean as a whistle, after 14 years. Stay safe.

    Make sure the sliding pins the pads slide on are clean and greased. Make sure the inside of the calipers where the brake pads move in and out ar squeaky clean the pads must not get hung up. Also verify your caliper pistons arw not dirty and corroded. Last but by no means lease make sure all the air is out of the lines even if you have to remove the master cylinder to get the last air bubble.

    I bought a Hagon monoshock with a progressive spring that was matched to my weight directly from them in the UK via their site. (which ends in .uk, not the US distributor) Best money I've spent on the 919. The compression/rebound damping are tied together but match each other well and the build quality(stainless steel) is outstanding. Current exchange rates put it under $400 new shipped to your door. I'd highly recommend it if you have it in your budget. I did the sprocket gear up too, also a great mod- especially for highway work.(though I stayed at 530)

    Brake pad is prematurely worn usually due to dirty caliper slides. If you pull the slides out and clean and lube them, the caliper should be able to move freely like its suppose to and not wear the pads unevenly. Nice bike, I own one too. Thanks for the video, very interesting to watch.

    I clean my calipers like every 3000 miles, I exercise them couple times so all pistons work ok... Vesrah pads are better option than OEM, they are reasonably priced. My 919 has little over 75000 miles and still running sharp, the more I ride it the harder it will be to let her go but I am looking at Kawasaki Z900RS which I test rode and I love it. I've got 2 of the F'05 Hornet 900s. Seeing this "maintenance" vid is okay. However, I am left bewildered when you show the front brake pads unevenly worn... Houston, there's a problem! As you swapped out the original rubber hoses, why didn't you go the extra 10yds and rebuild the calipers?? You would have found there was corrosion on the pistons (4 on each side)... polish them up if possible, new seals etc. Also, as a result of the uneven wear, the discs should be measured and replaced if worn unevenly. (and clean/grease the pins)
    Also, what is purpose of 520 chain over the standard 530? I guess you'll be changing chain& sprockets more regularily, especially if you ride it daily.

    Howdy, I am looking at getting a 2001 Hornet 900 and would like to ask some questions.
    They recently passed a 95db sound limit on all motorcycles where I live (overseas) and
    the seller states that the bikes makes 104db with a pair of AliExpress pipes (sc project counterfeits, it's pretty common to do that here).
    Is there anyway to get the bike to run at around 95db? I figure a pair of DB inserts would lower it a bit if not all the way
    however my concern is that will mess with the fuel mixture. I am not a mechanic nor mechanically inclined.
    Do you have any recommendations on how to go about this?

    • @10mm
      @10mm  Před rokem +1

      You could hunt for a set of stock pipes

    • @Riding_Seouless
      @Riding_Seouless Před rokem

      @@10mm Thanks but the stock pipes go above 95 DBs when revved, it's a ridiculous arbitrary number to set motorcycle exhaust DB limit at.
      Yeah, so... the limit is applied when you are both at idling and at 75% of max RPM... so idling isn't too much of an issue but to expect a 900cc motorcycle to be at 95db when at 75% of max rpm is a bit much.
