    Sold my AP-ROO Diver after 6 month ownership (never really bonded with it) to fund a 50th Anniversary SD-43 Mk2 from the AD. No regrets! Stunning watch. I have large wrist, so that’s the perfect watch for me.

    One subtlety with the 50th. I find the minute markers on the bezel make the watch look smaller. Compared to the sub where the lack of marks makes the bezel look wide.

    The helium escape valve is only needed by saturation divers living in diving bells for days on.
    In the diving bell, the helium gas, part of the gas mix the divers breathe, would be pushed by the pressure inside the watch case and would need to be able to exit the watch when the pressure inside the diving bell would gradually be brought back to surface level, allowing the divers to finally exit.
    No such requirement if the watch is always immersed in water, even at impressive depths.

    • @antsfur
      @antsfur Před 3 lety +1

      They dont live in diving bells but a chamber and they transfer to the bell through a transfer lock. The bell then forms a seal on the inside door as the transfer lock is vented off they then decend do their diving.
      It when they do their decompression after 2 to 3 weeks for a week or longer is when the helium escape valve is really need.

    The SD 43mm is a real beast of a watch - pretty much like a Submariner on steroids! However it may be just a bit _too_ big for many guys? I probably have slightly above average sized wrists (between 19 and 20cm) and when I once tried one on, I definitely had the impression that it was at the absolute upper maximum size limit that I could possibly wear.
    (PS Maybe they should make a version with green bezel and dial too? We have the "Hulk" Submariner, so why not an "Incredible Hulk" Sea-Dweller too? :-D)

      @@TheWatchGuysTV Thank you...
      I have a large size wrist 8 1/4 -22cm ... and most reviewers have a much smaller wrist around 6 1/2 to 7 inch . It is full-filling to see what it would look like on a wrist closer to my size. I really love this watch .....it will look great on my wrist. My AD tells me I should have it in the next 3 months.
      Again thank you for the update.

    Sorry but the iconic Seadweller doesn't have a cyclops and isn't 43mm. So the Seadweller 50th anniversary is a great watch but has been few ties to the original.

    • @alwong604
      @alwong604 Před 3 lety

      Nr1416 absolutely correct with your "opinion". SD43 is not the right size (40mm) has a cyclops when Seadwellers traditionally did not, and is now offered in Rolesor (2tone). But oooh, it has red lettering so must be nostalgic... SMH

    • @antsfur
      @antsfur Před 3 lety

      Yes I dont know why they put a Cyclops on mist be for the old boys if I bought one I would have it removed!

  • @mikeeagletube
    @mikeeagletube Před 3 lety +1

    I've always liked the Seadweller, but without the cyclops and preferably without the Rolex script on the rehaut and the red script. Guess I'm old fashioned :-)

    • @arghjayem
      @arghjayem Před 3 lety +2

      Mikey van der Arend I agree, which is why I bought a 2008 16600 Seadweller. It’s fantastic, classic 40mm size and looks, no cyclops, old style clasp but with solid end links. I would’ve gone for a Seadweller 4000 but couldn’t justify the extra cost just for a machined clasp and solid bracelet. Besides the classic bracelet works just as well and makes the watch feel like the traditional tool watch Rolex used to make, not the flashy things they now make.
