  • Don't let that burr comb, honey cappings, and wax foundation go to waste! In this video I'll show you how to make lip balm with your beeswax and 2 other simple ingredients.
    Recipe:
    - 1 ounce beeswax
    - 5 ounces oil
    - 5 drops of Vitamin E
    - 1 Teaspoon of Turmeric Powder
    - Pinch of Annatto Seed Powder
After using these myself (I don't sell these), I probably won't use the turmeric (at least not more than a pinch) for future batches. I didn't notice any taste, but one container did leave a little yellowing on the skin near my lips. It must have been from the bottom of the batch and possibly had extra in it, but I certainly wouldn't want to give those to people and have that happen. Something to be aware of if you're following this video! :)

Just for some clarification, I do not sell these lip balms and therefore did not make them in a more sanitary environment (i.e. no kitty). These were for my personal use :)

Thanks for allowing us to see how you make these. I would put an elastic band around all the tubes to fill them. Also just pour from the measuring cup into the plastic tubs. Make sure you rub all the water off of the measuring cup first. These may last only 6 months after you make them, unless you refrigerate them. I prefer to make just a few tubes at a time. :)

Sorry but with the Turmeric this will taste really bad and stain your lips and teeth.
My recipe is 3.5 grams sweet almond oil, 2 grams unprocessed beaswax and 2 grams coconut oil. I like this one because it is really hard so it doesnt melt or break and it builds a long lasting proctective layer.

If you put the annatto and turmeric in the oil color the wax, don't pour off the solids, you won't have that problem. I use mineral oil from the drugstore. One pound beeswax to one pint mineral oil. Great for my Working Hands that crack in winter time you dry out. Works as a lip balm. Wooden handles on kitchen utensils.
On my carbon steel kitchen knives so they don't rust. As I said before leather waterproofing. In the shelf life of mineral oil is longer doesn't go Rancid. Thank you for your video. Have a great year!

Can you put aloe Vera on the mixs ?

    • @celinee.9562
      @celinee.9562 Před 4 lety +5

I would say no, because i am assuming aloe vera gel needs refrigeration, this lip balm here is made with long term storage ingredients that last long without wasting even in extreme climates.
I believe the qualifiés of the aloe vera are not intact when cooked ! Normally the gel is applied raw.
Also i don't think it would mix well because wax and oils are lipidophiles/hydrophobes substances, and aloe vera is a gel that contains a lot of 'water' (the aloe vera juice). Aloe vera is the opposite : hydrophile/lipidophobe.
It's most probably possible to add aloe vera to soap and creams because they are emulsions of both water and oils.
      Here it's not an emulsion.
Chemically those natural substances (aqueous and wax/oil) would need to be whipped so as to form an émulsion, so that they can form something homegenous.
But i can't see who could want to whip bees wax ! This substance is difficult to manage when it cools down.... Very messy and not efficient. I wouldn't even try.
Something i would like to add to this balm is.... Honey ! Honey smells good and is good for the skin as well !!!
Good luck in your d.i.y. adventures !
