How Good Was The "Yes" Movement? (2013-2014)

  • The yes movement is seen as the time where Daniel Bryan became WWE's biggest star. His unmatched connection with WWE audiences led to fans getting behind him and his "yes" chant only made it more fun for the people involved. The story was organic, he enthralled WWE audiences and was universally beloved. After starting off in NXT, Bryan would have a winding road to get to the main roster. From here he'd win titles and even found himself as the world heavyweight champion. But once the run was over he transitioned to a tag team with Kane. The two would go on to form team hell no after Bryan wanted to improve his character and his underdog character gained traction very quickly. From here Bryan was embroiled in the ultimate story raging against the WWE powers that be. He'd have title opportunities ruined time and time again, but he would ultimately topple everything in his path and become the face of the company In this video I take a look at his magical run to the top of the WWE. Magic was truly in the air during this time.
I hope you enjoy the video and thank you for supporting me!

One of the best storylines that lead to a perfect WrestleMania moment. It was a special moment for the modern era of the WWE and they absolutely capitalized on it. I heard that originally, they weren’t gonna go with Daniel Bryan as the winner to win both titles (something like that) but the fans changed their decision. The Underdog, Daniel Bryan had quite the journey to reach top status.

I love Daniel Bryan but Roman Reigns going from hated face to the top guy in the world as a heel is some of the best character story telling ever. Kenny Omega was asked if he could sign any wrestler in the world to AEW it was Roman. A few years ago that was unthinkable. Plus Seth Rollins Riddler act vs the return of the prodigal son Cody Rhodes. Edge turning heel on AJ Styles a few months back was also great. Hell I forgot about Orton & Riddle. That's not even mentioning all time greats Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Asuka, Bayley & Sasha Banks with rising stars like Bianca Belair Main Eventing Wrestlemania Day 1 or Rhea Ripley. Compared to the Divas division in 2014 with hot women that couldn't wrestle(Bellas). The pointless John Cena victory over Bray Wyatt that WWE fixed 5 years later or the unsatisfied ending of the Takers streak by Brock Lesnar the last person on Earth that needed that victory going forward. Heck the tag team Champions in 2014 are the Tag Team Champions now The Usos. But instead of the goofy over the top Samoan tribal look like Umaga was cut in half and now there's less mean crazy dudes to the 2021 Bloodline version of them now. Humans in the 21th Century are almost always fonder of history than we are the moment. Just like the Attitude Era that was getting 5.5-6.0 ratings on Raw is considered the greatest time in wrestling. A year ago I went and watch a 1999 Raw and outside of the opening segment & Main Event had about 6 segments of forgettable trash.

I believe it literally lasted a year and a half with a powerful buildup at the end, and that was Daniel Bryan winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. @Jeff_Pryce Před 3 lety +11

What made it special was that the fans felt like as big a part of the storyline as Bryan or the other wrestlers were.
Think about what the main event was: Batista vs Orton for the title. A match literally nobody wanted except for Vince and a handful of idiots online who like to troll fans. While Daniel Bryan would have to wrestle…Sheamus. A yearlong buildup to being the hottest thing in wrestling, all leading to…Sheamus. 🤦‍♂️
This was the first time in decades of watching wrestling that I saw the fans stand up as one and tell Vince McMahon: “NO! Daniel Bryan is OUR guy! He deserves the main event of Wrestlemania, HE deserves to be WWE World Heavyweight Champion! And if you don’t give him what he deserves and what we want, there will be consequences!” And it worked. Between CM Punk leaving and the fans revolting, Vince had no choice but to give Daniel Bryan the amazing Wrestlemania he had, beating all three top members of Evolution and the entire Authority in one night with an injured shoulder to win the title in the main event of Wrestlemania. There’s never been anything like that before, and it set the table for Kofi Kingston’s historic championship win at Wrestlemania five years later. I thought it was very iconic myself, and very, VERY helpful during one of the worst years of my life. I felt like Daniel Bryan going against the authority that was my Elementary School & Teachers.

It was great on the road to Mania 30. The chants elevated Bryan as an ultimate underdog. It built his reputation as a lovable babyface. However, it sunk as he slowly started becoming a regular main event figure. The "yes" chant lost its underdog appeal and started becoming somewhat stale. So yes, it was good, but only throughout his journey as an underdog.

So I saw the reaction of the crowd when he betrayed the Wyatts and that tells me all I need to know about how big this was and how much it connected. I have never seen someone work the crowd like that. (If so please let me know cuz I wanna look up the clips 😂)

When I returned to watching wrestling I thought " who the f is this uninteresting looking everyman" but his personality and the fact that he kinda is the embodiment of the everyman eventually won me over.

Ultimately, Daniel Bryan's night at WrestleMania XXX ended up being what it was due to the three key reasons:
    1. Batista failed push & Royal Rumble win
    2. CM Punk's walkout
    3. Daniel Bryan popularity increasing more and more as weeks and months went on
CM Punk's walkout is important here not just because original plans had Triple H vs CM Punk. CM Punk's walkout is also important here because the only person in the WWE, at that point, that the fans would have accepted as walking out WMXXX as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion was CM Punk. Then again, there was the end of the Streak so that main event of Punk/Orton/Batista probably would not have brought the fans back into that show the way Bryan/Orton/Batista did.

So why doesn’t anyone talk about how Daniel treated Colby like Triple H treated Daniel?
They even told Colby he was a “B Plus Player” and nothing more, the same way Triple H dismissed Daniel.
Kinda turned into a massive hypocrite.

It was VERY good. It was showing the WWE that we were sick and tired of what THEY(Vince)was trying to PUSH on us. I felt bad for Batista. He was about to be a big deal in a few months with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1, and he came back as a Face, and then due to them adding Bryan into the mix, he went Heel. And it was basically Daniel Byran vs EVOLUTION minus Ric Flair. I would have preferred to see CM Punk in the main event of Wrestlemania this year, but I was perfectly okay with the YES movement taking over after CM Punk got fed up with how he was being treated, and left.

I think it would have been cool if he stayed with the Wyatt family. Then instead of the occupy Raw to get a shot at the main event at Wrestlemania, the Wyatt family helps him fight the authority and be included in the main event!

Wrestlemania 30 matches should be like this:
1- Cesaro win the rumble of 2014 vs John Cena(C) vs Batista for WHC
2- Daniel Bryan vs Randy Orton(C) vs Brock lesner for WWE Championship
3- CM Punk vs Tripel H
    4- Undertaker vs Bray Wyatt
