      Tali' Zorah nar Rayya I was joking. Actually he did a crappy job researching this but I don't think it would have changed his views anyway. Many people in both GG and AGG forget that not everyone gives a damn or sees these issues as binary divisions in gaming culture. Pretty sure Joe would fit in that neutral category regardless.

      I had to look up the arguments and everything. I think censorship in gaming is wrong. I think stopping peoples ideas are wrong. I think stopping peoples reviews of games and ideas are wrong. Anita is dumb, but not worth the argument.
      Aside from those things I just said, I am neutral. Don't touch my video games, and well all be nice and happy.

      I dont have time for all this games debates bullshit. just wait for games reviews/gameplay, if its good buy the game, no early access crap, no pre-order, no kickstarter projects, no micro transaction fraud. just watch reviews, like it, buy it and support dev, enjoy it then off to figure how to pay taxes and deal with real life problems. Its all business even for Angryjoe and other reviewers. his not doing this videos because he loves all of us. we bring money to the table. and all those videos attacking Nintendo is just to show them, he has 1 million followers and he can really damage their sales if they dont soften their rules with him. Anyhow, i enjoy this kind of videos to have a little bit of insight about how this industry is evolving. and i can see, it's evolving around your pockets by creating people so into gaming drama, to make them recruit others to convince people to spend their hard earn money into buying whatever those companies throw at them.

      +TheFancyRoman Not only that there's violence and bad language everywhere. You might as well shut your kid in a metal box with no windows. We can't shield kids from everything. It's ridiculous to think that because we let our kids play violent games that they're gonna go out and kill 30 people. Instead of stopping your kids from playing violent games, monitor how much time they can play those games. Or better yet, as you said DON'T BUY THEM. Either keep them away from violent games or shut the hell up. And STOP TRYING TO DICTATE HOW OTHER PEOPLE RAISE THEIR KIDS! It's my fucking choice whether I let my kid play violent games. You wanna punish every kid for some nutjob who went out and shot people? Stop it. STOP IT NOW!

      I don't know the whole story. It's a whole mess of controversy and questionable ethics. It's almost like Russian nesting dolls, as there seemed to be controversy within even larger controversy, like the Zoe Quinn thing being linked to the Sarkessian and Feminism controversy. It's a tangled web and I never bothered unraveling it. All I know is that most people were either on the fence or generally avoided the topic whilst addressing the smaller topics that it was linked to, as I already mentioned.
      I guess the thing is that you can't tackle GamerGate as a whole, rather you have to take it on in smaller chunks and draw conclusions from that. it's difficult, and that's why few people could make a decision as to where they stood.
      Sorry for the whole lesson thing, I can get carried away.

    - If I know that a game is GOOD and FINISHED, I will buy it. If not, I don't even bother.
    - I don't give a shit about console wars. Consoles don't matter, games do.

      Here are mine to add to that:
      1. do not buy DLC until you know it will be good (Destiny 2's Curse of Osiris and Warmind weren't but were necessary to get more powerful)
      2. look for reveiws for the game to see if it will be worth the buy
      3. if it's too good to be true, it probably is
      4. If a game has to have microtransactions even after the initial buy, get rid of it and ask for a refund. because chances are, you're probably going to get scammed (if it is for the soul purpose of leveling up and make your character stronger without the work)
      call me old schooled but I prefer leveling up the old fashion way of actually doing the work instead of buying level ups because I'm a rich kid who has money to burn

      @che3se1495 Před 9 lety +9

      onlypinhead2000 Other journalism probably doesn't effect you, but it's still very necessary and isn't a joke. 'Games Journalism' is a joke because we don't need games journalists. We can get all the information about video games ourselves through play tests and videos.
      We don't need a yay or nay from someone about something we can go and see for ourselves.
      TL;DR: games journalists are as useful as art critics.

      I really hate to disagree with Angry Joe, I really admire the guy, and he has been more honest on the issue than ANY MAJOR GAME JOURNALIST IN THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY(with maybe one or two exceptions). He made a very nice post on his website forum that I hope people will take the time to look up.
      Considering the misinformed opinions, and FLAT OUT LIES that MANY major journalists have been spreading about gamergate since day one, a little open-minded neutrality is just excellent. Joe, I love you.
      Short answer: It's mostly politics, my friend, either you want to play a game where people point fingers and discuss who did what, or you want to play a game where you shoot/stab dudes/dudettes. Choose now, and don't look back.
      At least we can have a nice healthy debate with a gamergater, we can't have a discussion with Kotaku, they are above criticism.

      The worst hasn't even started yet.
      SWAT raids can cause a lot of stuff; Property damage, death of pets (Standard SWAT practice is to shoot potentially dangerous dogs on sight), and even accidental deaths caused by an itchy trigger finger (There is indeed precedent for this). If Swatting continues, it won't be long before someone gets seriously hurt or killed, and that's one of the scariest things about it.

    I'm fairly neutral on GamerGate, but my viewpoint is basically this:
    Sexism in games comes from sexism, not games.

    • @LamentationsEnd
      @LamentationsEnd Před 9 lety +2

      It goes both ways. Video games borne from patriarchal society will express patriarchy, which in turn reinforces patriarchy. Sexism does come from games, but only because games were borne from a sexist culture.

    • @SOSclueless
      @SOSclueless Před 9 lety +16

      LamentationsEnd That makes no sense. Feminism was born in a patriarchal society. Does that mean that it expresses patriarchy which in turn reinforces patriarchy? You're also making the assumption that the western world today is a patriarchy. It is not.

    • @ChevaliersEmeraude
      @ChevaliersEmeraude Před 9 lety +5

      manhunt48 Hmm, dude, we ALL agree to that! Do you really think we believe that games make people sexist? No. Sexism exist, and it just so happens that they found an hashtag as a form of support group for sexist a-holes.
      Let me point you out to something: Most of the people you're fighting against, the anti-GG side? They are gamers. I'm a gamer. A feminist gamer, and not ashamed of it either. That's why there's a war; because there's a side who want better female representation in the gaming world, and then there's GG who's afraid of that kind of change, thinking it will take away their games or something. And, yes, there's the good GG who actually care about corruption in gaming medias, but those are quite rare. I mean, honestly, in 5 months of existence, compare the accomplishments made in tackling corruption VS those made in attacking the idea of the gaming world being more women-friendly, you can see there is very little done against corruption from GG...

      *Ahem*
      No.

    • @SOSclueless
      @SOSclueless Před 9 lety +10

      ChevaliersEmeraude GamerGate is mostly about ethics in games' journalism. There are definitely people that advocate against feminism but they don't advocate against women. As someone who doesn't live in a western country and doesn't have any direct contact with feminism, I can only go by what I see in the media and online. What I see is that feminism has been taken over by radicals and the idea of equality between genders is being used to demonize men for not behaving like women. That's why I agree that it has no business in video games, where the majority of the market is male. Arguing against feminism isn't anti-woman. Only 23% of all women in the US describe themselves as feminists, so clearly it doesn't represent every woman's interests.

    Okay Joe, your entire GamerGate rant was, to use your own words here, BULLSHIT! While it is correct that the GamerGate as it is known today was triggered by the Quinspiracy posts, that is not, NOT the crux of the issue. Long before that, gaming journalists were starting to injects extreme feminist ideology and identity politics into their articles, right up to a point where many of the articles on these sites weren't even really about gaming any more. There was already and issue with journalism long before Quinn. Quinn was the smoking gun that provided the proof that there was something wrong in game journalism.
    The movement is not about attacking feminism and I take issue with the way that you have characterized that as being the foundation of the movement, as it clearly isnt. The issue is that those who are standing against GamerGate are in fact cultural Marxists, pushing an extreme left wing agenda. You might not think that it affects gamers as a whole, but it does and unless someone stands up and says no, it will continue to affect your games more and more. And this whole SJW movement has been going on long before GamerGate came around.
    Many may not be familiar with the culture war that has erupted online as a part of the larger culture war. But one part of that culture war ended up with Atheism+ coming about. This was the cultural appropriation of the Atheism community by radical, 3rd wave feminists and their followers. Im sure you cant see what the big deal is and Im not going to deride or ridicule you if you dont, but, this whole issue needs a lot more research conducting on your part than just looking at GamerGate because the whole SJW movement is much deeper and much more insidious than you can even imagine.
    But enough of that. Im glad that this video is back up. One common tactic in cultural appropriation is to take down videos that dont agree 100% with them or is critical of them. Its why most people in gamergate are blocked by the SJWs, stifling any debate that they claim to want to have. Fingleberrys No, it had not. That is the narrative that is being spun by those people who have a larger soap box to stand on in the Mainstream Media and paid shills. The IGDA and Silverstring Media have both been using as much of their influence as possible to deride and characterize GamerGate as something that it is not. And then you have the usual 3rd wave feminist tactic of calling any criticism of their ideas as misogyny...which it isnt. People hate The 3 Literally Whos not because they are fucking women...they are hated because of what they say, the piss poor and unresearched work that they do and the reasons that they do it. For them, this is about one thing, playing professional victims for money.

Swatting destroys property, wastes tax dollars, distracts our police from real emergencies, can cause emotional trauma, and can potentially get some one physically hurt or worse.

But you know, I have a feeling that its just gonna be a forgotten flash in the pan years from now, whereas this trend of buggy games is just the beginning of a real trend that will affect us for years. This the kind of thing we need to stamp out now before gaming publishers get the idea that its perfectly ok to release an unfinished game so long as they can patch it later or worse yet... make you pay for it.
      But yeah you're not wrong in that sense, especially seeing as how gunshy Joe was about addressing the issue in his video. I heard he shot 5 different versions of #1 just to get it right.

I honestly cannot believe people would actually do this type of shit to others, wouldn't the police at the very least do some research on the person first before jumping into conclusions? Also, why would people want to prank both the police and innocent people like this for? They'd be keeping the police away from actual emergencies just because of something that's too horrid to be considered a prank.

    There's something I don't think Joe quite understands about #GamerGate. For people like him and Totalbiscuit, it's easy to fight for ethics in gaming via your audience and influence. For us average gamers; the gaming press doesn't give a *fuck* about our concerns. #GamerGate was the first time we were able to have our voices heard and show the press that we exist, not just as straight, white dudes, but as gamers of all races, genders, and sexual orientations.
    As for the harassment of "anti-GG" women: take note that this harassment has had no direct ties to GG, despite what the media would have you believe. Also take note that "anti-feminism" does not mean they're against women or social justice, they just don't like the hypocrisy and contradictions associated with it.
    Other than that, I think the neutral approach was fair. I don't agree but I respect Joe for being honest and reasonable.

      Baxter Rhodes Which is why there needs to be a massive push against it. If not #GamerGate, then something else. Just sitting around like Joe here and saying "pfft, shit, yeah I support ethics...yeah!" is not enough. There needs to be an organized move for change to happen. Take historical precedent: the Civil Rights movement for example, it was a hell of a well organized movement that required months of training and preparation for the movements to go as planned. They also had backing in the NAACP and similar groups.

      Iconoclasm_ Too much work. Gaming journalism is too corrupted. First we would need to hit reviewer sites, then much smaller things. Why reviewers first? They are the reason we get games so people who wouldn't know about the "New Game Order" will have legitimate reviews. Then we would get micro transactions, dlc (or make so dlc is the max is 15$ but the quality is 60$),and last but not least the companies themselves (EA, Capcom, Ubisoft, and Activison). #NewGameOrder
      But, doing this may change gaming forever, for the better or worse. The question is, are you prepared?

    "You GamerGaters need to watch out". - is that a threat? Would Angry Joe ever say that to the Anti-GG side? Of course not. They are the cooler kids in his view. He changes his tone but only to appear impartial. His emotions during this rant speak louder than his words.
    "I'm tired of hearing about Gamergate" - does Joe wish the general public didn't have a voice to begin with? I understand that playing in a competitive online environment can breed this sentiment towards the male gender. Guys like to trash talk, everyone knows this. And girls don't like it. Does Angry Joe not understand that the feminists and SJWs are the ones provoking this revolt? Constantly. Trashing straight, white males is how people like Anita make a living. Just like Rush Limbaugh going after democrats.
    Joe never points out anything fundamentally wrong with the anti-GG side. He is just pissed off they didn't win 100 - 0 and criticizes their tactics for destroying the percentage of the population he considers the real scum.

      You don't have to support one side or the other to recognize the consistent reaction to the general public being allowed to voice their opinion thanks to the internet. Ethics in journalism - just an excuse for different tax brackets and levels of higher education to throw poo at each other.
      I wish games had more in-your-face and challenging gameplay. The first generation of games required practice to master. No more. Women as a group will NOT bring challenge to gameplay. The perception (right or wrong) is women want to take challenge away.
      THAT is a reason for GG to exist, masked behind a curtain of BS talk.

    I got involved with #GamerGate 1) Because these outlets don't have the right to decide for me whether I use the term Gamer or not. 2) This is a consumer boycott.
    This is Gamers saying these sites are stupid, are blacklisting game developers based on (undisclosed) personal ideologies. They're making devs miss their bonus for bogus low scoring based on personal crusades (meta-critic needs to be reformed too).
    These sites are on the way out, and most of us Gamers don't pay much attention to them, but behind the scenes that are causing chaos and damaging game developers.
    Also, we are fighting the media. Unfortunately the games media has a broad reach into the mainstream, and the has manifested in a concerted smear campaign against us in #GamerGate, and it's continuing to smearing all of Gamers.
    We're just a bunch of Gamers that don't want our love for our hobby erased and don't want these websites that we don't even browse anymore to control what we play and how it's developed.
    Admittedly there are a lot of wild idealogies coming from various groups within #GamerGate, but then, how do you propose policing a boycott.
    For some reason so many that we face up against seem to identify as feminist, specifically 3rd wave. It's especially weird because there are feminists among those of us who support #GamerGate. I guess we're supposedly more 2nd wave but we want equality, these people we're up against, want something else.
    I won't go into the scam artists, some of which you mentioned in your video, and how they and many of these outlets refuse to have civil conversation. I personally see ethics policies being reformed as great successes because that's what's going to stop these outlets from excerpting undue control on our game; transparency.

      Just want to say great post, absolutely phenomenal explanation.
      Can I just add the whole feminist thing and try to elaborate just a touch? as far as I can tell the absolute biggest reason why Feminism is always brought up is because the mainstream media seems to think that the mainstream third wave radical bigot feminists speak for women as a whole along with other minorities, which is actually why #notyourshield was formed in correlation with #GamerGate
      Also if I am to be honest I am convinced that this was a cauldron waiting to boil over since Anita first entered the scene (if not even further) with all that bull shit Tropes vs Women (maybe one or two good points but dammit I could not stomach watching any of it now how one sided it is) but with the whole misogyny in games message going around the quinspiracy just seems like the pebble that caused the rocklide, the feather that broke the camels back, whatever metaphor you want to use.

    As a supporter of #GamerGate I don't mind taking a neutral stand point at all. You do you do. Just remember it's not #GamerGate that says by taking a neutral stance you "silently support it's harassment". Remember that people on both sides of the issue have faced harassment, something the opposition of the movement has tried very hard to play down or white wash.
    You wanna know if you support #GamerGate?
    Q: Do you believe that the media that covers games should be open and honest with their readership? This includes when they write stories about friends or lovers, or if they got special "gifts" from publishers?
    If you said yes, then congratulations you support it, even if you choose not to in name. GamerGate supporters being called misogynist harassers of women has as much validity as the "Games make people violent" argument from the 90's and the "Games are satanic" argument from the 80's.
    #GamerGate is what happens when gamers feel like those that are supposed to defend us as consumers decide to spit on our face and mock us when we say enough is enough.

      ***** I wish having to fill a gender quota was something that didn't have to happen. I would really hate knowing I got a job not because of my expertise, but because of my gender. But, on the other side of the coin, I would really hate to NOT get a job because of my gender as well. The fact that women have been shut out of a lot of careers because of their gender has led to this unfortunate way of "solving" the problem. It is ment to be a temporary solution until we reach a point where a female in what was previously seen as a man's job isn't viewed as weird or abnormal. This is also important in mostly female dominant jobs as well. At least in my country there are quotas for men in fields such as nursing, kindergarten, school etc. A man applying as a kindergarten teacher will almost without hesitation get the job because there is such a need for male rolemodels for small children. We need to break ALL the glassroofs. Men in nursing jobs and females in executive jobs. A future where a man isn't afraid to be judged by his peers if he wishes to pursue a "feminine" job, and a woman isn't afraid of harrassment and being undermined if she choose to pursue a job within gaming (for example). And soon in the near future I hope we will not need quotas to make that happen. Though it would always be awsome to try and find different ways to solve the problem. I've always loved gaming yet never actually considered the path of developing them myself. Having delved deeper, however, and gotten to know more female writers/developers/producers I couldn't think of anything I'd rather do :)
      tl; dr: What I am trying to say is: no, forcing anyone to do anything for the sake of doing it is wrong. That doesn't solve anything. But yet there needs to be paths carved for those walking behind. It may seem absurd and disruptive at the time, but I at least, hope that in the end the result will be something positive. Aaand now I feel like I've talked too much again xD

      diamondsofsix you're absolutely right. it sucks that sometimes women are denied jobs because of their gender. it really does. BUT i feel like most businesses could care less about the gender of the employee but rather how good they are at their job because even if an employer hates women, his love of money probably overshadows his hate of women and i feel like it probably doesnt happen as often as we might think.

    • @diamondsofsix
      @diamondsofsix Před 9 lety +7

      ***** It isn't as common now as it used to be, that is true, and I think some of that is thanks to the excessive light that has been put on the problem. But there aren't that many decades ago since women were denied higher education. So naturally those generations would view women as uneducated and mostly just fit for a job as a secretary. The further we move on the less this will be true, and we can see this in our generation where the mere idea of a woman not being as educated as her male peer, simply because of her gender, is absurd to us. The last of the lingering prejudice is dying off, thankfully. This is of course only speaking about our own tiny little part of the world. If we look broader the idea of a woman not being qualified because of lack of education is very real.

      It has been this way for as long as Vivian "James" Sarkeesian can remember. She was given her name in tribute to a video game character, though she didn't mind. Her great-grandmother was a very vocal games critic in her time, even though she wasn't very good at it.
      On the same day as Vivian's 18th birthday of this year, something horrible happened: the United States' third female president, Sophia E. Alexander, was assassinated in her hometown of Lakewood, California. The president was assassinated by a man claiming that she was "contributing to the patriarchy" by expressing her approval in an amendment being voted on that prevented the government from banning any art form for "equality-based reasons." Her demise resulted in several states rejecting the amendment out of fear of similar attacks following.
      Not only is the United States outraged, but Japan, Great Britain, France, Brazil, and numerous other countries are also angered by her assassination and how the amendment's passing would ravage their economy. Meanwhile Sweden, Turkey, China, and numerous other countries applaud the failure of the amendment, calling it's defeat "a poetic end for America's history."
      World War 4 is inevitable. Last time there was a war, part of Russia, both North and South Korea, and the Eastern half of the United States were rendered uninhabitable by nuclear bombardments. But, even with nuclear weaponry all but extinct at this point, this may very well be the war to end humanity.
      But, just like with the birth of atomic bombs in 1945 and their death in 2025, fate would unleash a new horror on the planet. An unexpected blackout occurs in Vivian's hometown in Nevada. At the time, Vivian was ankledeep in power wires and gaming accessories while playing an online game of Battlefield Dynasty (a cross between Dynasty Warriors and Battlefield. Don't ask why) using her newly acquired Oculus Rift 7. The equipment, however, was highly susceptible to causing electrical shock when turned off improperly. The controller she was using alone could cause electrical burns when misused. The blackout occurs, yet you couldn't tell from the light and explosion that was coming from the room. Under normal circumstances, Vivian would be dead. But this is the origin story of a fucking video game character, so of course she survives. But this survival would come with an... interesting... side effect.

    If you're going be neutral in this consumer revolt, please don't look like a uninformed moron. The 5 Guys thing was not about slut shaming, is how a certain person was able to manipulate journalists into writing one way to that person's benefit. That person was being in control of the media and had influence.The slut shaming is something spinned by the corrupt media that sides with her. Da fuck?
    Thank you entirely for keeping discussion open for both sides and listening to the sensibilities of both sides.
    In my opinion GG is a well intentioned movement executed in a poor way due to it's randomized and uncooperative nature. Something you can't control. Anti-GG are also well intentioned in the sense that they're trying to handle games in a way appropriate for everyone. Unfortunately there's a handful of douche bags on both sides but I personally see more sensibility from the pro-GG side. Just my perspective.

    Joe, I understand that you get thousands of comments a day, especially when you make a new video, and that the chances of you seeing this comment are slim to none; but I want to get this off my chest.
    First I want to preface this by saying I just re-watched your Anita Sarkeesian argument from last year, and the Gamergate one from this. All I want to say is that I agree with you when you say people shouldn't send death and rape threats to people with different opinions, and I also agree that sexist assholes will be sexist assholes at the end of the day. Where I don't agree with you is when you say to just listen to Anita's opinions. Don't get me wrong, we should listen to what she has to say and think about it. The problem I have with the way you say it is that it sounds like we should just accept her opinions. I know you said you don't completely agree with her, and that's cool. If you did completely agree or disagree with her that's cool too. It's your opinion. However, acceptance won't help the problem, but a discussion will, and that's my problem I have about Anita. She doesn't want a discussion, she just wants to state her opinions as fact. Comments on her videos? Disabled. Ratings? Disabled (You could argue this is because of the threats, but still I can't find evidence of her having a discussion with another person with the opposite opinion). If you saw the ABC News piece that aired a few weeks ago about Gamergate, and you probably did see it, you will see that it is focused mostly on threats and stereotypical arguments against games like GTA. It isn't promoting a discussion, it just repeats what we already know: Anita got attacked and mainstream news sources continue to say how games like GTA are evil. Neither will admit that killing the prostitute in GTA after sex is optional, because that will undermine their argument.
    All I want is for people that agree with Anita and mainstream news sources to have a honest discussion with those of us who have a different opinion. If we don't have this discussion everyone will stay in their own little worlds, and nothing will change. I hope this comment reaches you, or anyone else for that matter. If this doesn't happen the worst is yet to come.

    • @BensGameTime
      @BensGameTime Před 9 lety +1

      ***** That's right, we don't have to listen. However, if we don't speak our opinions on the matter no one can listen to our side. The people that do listen to her, news sources in gaming & mainstream outlets and some developers, won't have another opinion to think about if we just ignore what she says. If this problem is to be solved, if it can be solved, then both sides need to voice their concerns. Some will be heard, and some will definitely ignored, hell even this could be ignored if someone chooses. But, at the end of the day, honest discussion will be what gets things done. Nice comment man.

      Matt Kenney As most other shooters are as well. Why does a game have to sugarcoat the violent parts with pretentious morals? It isn't edutainment. You are killing simulated people. Sometimes they shoot back, sometimes not. Sometimes you get some kind of reward for these actions, sometimes not. But you play it, because YOU want to. It doesn't matter if the game gives you no other choice, YOU made the choice to play the game. If you don't want to mass murder everyone any longer, you stop it. Either by following the story line, doing other side activities or by simply starting another game.

      For quite a while proper review sites and magazines have given good reviews to games and films that have turned out to be shit. And I am talking in a real obvious way, and often in national newspaper. This was something noticable and probably measurable.
      Your example is flakey. It's hearsay. Correlation does not prove effect.
      The concern I have is why it is Depression Quest that "breaks the camels back"? Especially when as you said, it was "coverage" (not that I saw any of the coverage mind) and not Full Promotion like the Shadow of Mordor PR team tried to pay for.

    • @aruan7sp
      @aruan7sp Před 9 lety

      RedSoulYo Most people familiarized with gaming sites already were aware that these websites would accept financial bonuses or ad revenue to give positive coverage on AAA titles. Some famous cases that when a journo refused to do this, gave a game a very critical review or a lower score than the traditional 8/10 or 9/10 were fired are a good evidence on this.
      The issue got out of hand mostly due to streisand effect, people concerned about potential personal biases of journos towards their report subjects were being silenced on various websites and the gaming sites completely refused to speak on the matter. This issue could really be solved in a single day and Gamergate wouldn't even be a thing.
      Also, Zoe Quinn was involved with the Wizardchan controversy and The Fine Young Capitalists charity almost being shut down, but I won't comment on those to avoid this comment being any larger.

    I like the point you made that gamers aren't shitty, but rather there are shitty people who are gamers and that gaming culture isn't anything like these people. That made a lot of sense and it's a concept that people don't pay attention to nearly enough.
    The right winged conservatives thing didn't really get the same benefit from you in the video. Just like gamers, the vast majority of conservatives are just neutral and couldn't give less of a shit about either side of the debate. It's the same way with liberals on the other side of the fence. I don't like you any less for your opinion of neutrality on #GamerGate. I respect your opinion. Also, for the record, I'm typing as I'm watching.
    I would recommend you do a little more research to understand the movement itself. The reason that the Quinnspiracy (pardon my spelling) was the spark to create the movement of #GamerGate was because it had to do with gaming ethics and journalism. She confirmed sleeping with multiple reviewers, and her motives for such an act were to boost the amount of positive reviews on what is said to be an inaccurate representation of real depression. Yes, it was internet drama, but it certainly wasn't pointless.
    The focus on the sites who said "GAMERS ARE DEAD AS AN IDENTITY" were stupid the *whole way through their articles*. Empty-women sentiments is a stupid point, because it's false. Anti-women is also a stupid concept, because it's false. I do agree though, there are sexists in the gaming community, but it isn't because they're gamers. It's because they're douchebags who just so happen *to* be gamers.
    The political thing is really funny and super weird. I agree with that. That shit is hilarious, and stupid.
    Leaking personal information of someone is a shitty thing to do. I don't think anyone but the person who did that would deny that it's a shitty thing to do. However, Zoe Quinn has a large amount of controversy surrounding her for good reasons, and to my knowledge, Brianna Wu is not all that trustworthy in general.
    *WOAH WOAH WOAH*, it's not an issue of slut-shaming, Joe. I can see where you might have gotten that from, but based on anything I've seen, it has nothing to do with slut-shaming. Based on the evidence that *I* have seen, it appears to be an issue of someone using sex as a means to boost their own game. That's fucking lame. If your game is not good, you do not deserve positive reviews. If she was called a terrible person, I'd be willing to bet it was because of her poor choices, attempting to abuse the reviewing system as a whole, not because people thought she was a slut and that was just terrible.
    For the record, if a man had done such a thing, it wouldn't be any more acceptable. That man would still be guilty of using sex to get better reviews on his potentially shitty game. Who knows, maybe those who would criticize him would call him a predator, or a scumbag.
    Yep, I hate Anita Sarkeesian too. Why? Well, simply because I'm male, she would likely consider me a misogynistic, oppressive, violent, scumbag, who, (based on the fact that I'm male), would be 100% more likely to shoot up a school. Anita Sarkeesian is dumb. Straight up *dumb*. In fact Joe, she'd probably consider you sexist, since you enjoyed Hitman: Absolution. You know, the game where you're *encouraged* to murder prostitutes. She'd also probably think you sexist because you enjoyed GTA V, a game centered around the justified murder of innocent women. She thinks *every single female video game character is sexist*.
    Hell, she seems to think *Zelda* is an example of sexism. *ZELDA*. As in the character after which *almost every single game in that series is named, and for a good reason*. I got into a CZcams comment debate with 3 other people. One of these people was with me, defending Zelda as an awesome character, which she truly is. The other 2, who had clearly extremely limited knowledge on the series as a whole. Zelda is not a sexist character. Good luck arguing that.
    Let me give a brief summary of why I don't like Anita Sarkeesian:
    Too much clothing on a female character? - Oppressive.
    A medium amount of clothing? - She's still looked at as an object.
    Too little clothing? Even by choice of the character? - Sexist. Object. Sexualized, which is (somehow?) inherently negative.
    Bayonetta is a fucking awesome female character. Anita Sarkeesian thinks she's terrible because as a character, Bayonetta likes being sexual. Even though Bayonetta is a sexual character by choice.
    TL;DR
    I think you should research a little more. Your view on what #GamerGate is seems to be a little misinformed.

    As much as I am anti GG ALL I want to say on the issue is how much I admire Joe's ability to acknowledge the worst in both sides but still go out of his way to defend the best as well. Seeing the best in people like that is a really cool thing and I respect you for that, Joe.

    • @SmashingJack420
      @SmashingJack420 Před 9 lety

      Yeah, far too many people seem to have an us vs them mentality when it comes to divisive stuff like GG. It saddens me to know how tribalistic this whole thing has gotten.

    • @EdgarHarford
      @EdgarHarford Před 9 lety

      Actually the his criticism of GamerGate was disproportionate than that of Anti GG. Roughly 3 minutes more. And he often goes off against conservatives despite no proof of any kind of political bias from either side.
      If you go against any political stance, and try to claim your moderate, then you're lying.

      King Tutankhamun I see 'gentlemen' as more refined men with "higher" tastes. Not to say gaming is a low taste, but that isn't exactly how I see Joe; I see him more as the everyman and 'bro', someone that's agreeable enough and is on a similar level to us, so to speak.

It really displayed how honest, passionate, and good you are as a person and how much you want the world of gaming to develop into a healthy environment for many people to join. Dear AngryJoe,
    I'm not really the kind of guy that leaves comments, I find the internet communities obnoxious at best and I try to avoid any discussion here as I do not believe it to be productive.
    I tend to be interested in some aspects of the games outside of the gaming experience itself, usually the way it uses narrative and fun (i'm talking about the design behind it, we have a specific word for it in French but it seems you don't). In the end, the worst part of it is the behavioral system that corporations use to control gamers (the infamous Goals - Actions - Merit - Evaluation, or the Skinner Method). It could be used for better purposes but no, it has to be used to suck the money out of you. Hell, if you take a look at most smartphone games and other candy crush bullshit, they are actually more of a direct application of those psychological tricks rather than actual game design!
    In the end, all I wanted to say is that I witnessed you trying to denounce this corporate crap out loud and being "punished" for it. And I saw you not giving up.
    For what it is worth, I just wanted to say you have all my respect, and I do believe that you and some other people can stand as figureheads to enforce a better gaming.
    Sincerely,
    Cocococaine
    BTW, say hi to Other Joe

    What Gamergate originally was has mostly completed its objective at this point. A lot of websites have changed their policies so that we can actually see if there are any links between the writers and the devs they are writing about. Despite what a few of the more extreme feminists say, that is what Gamergate was about.
