    That comment about him being stuck in the 90´s was the dumbest shit ever. Like sure, he sure has some 90´s influences and the things he experienced in the 90´s is probably a big part of his story, but he should be commended and praised for the fact that he is one of the very few if not the only rapper to have succesfully taken the vibe of 90´s gangsta rap and made it sound fresh and current. There is nothing retro about Gibbs sound or style, it´s just got that authentic hiphop feel that us old heads like. Without doubt one of the best in the game right now and he is not getting the shine he deserve at all.

      "If it wasn't for the Madlib production nobody would really be fucking with Gibbs right now. Just some perspective."
      That's not true even though i understand what you mean, the people who found out about Gibbs because of the Piñata album should be credited to Madlib, but Gibbs should also get the credit. If they didn't feel what he was spitting on those songs, they woulden't like it. Also there are people who knew about him before the Piñata album, including me. But i agree he woulden't be this "known" if he didnt collab :)

      Nick Walters Im pretty sure Stones Throw is a record label & they put out Pinata.
      As I understand it ithe project was Madlibs idea to put Gibbs on those beats so I still don't agree with Freddie taking any credit other than being a collaborator & not a instigator.
      Freddie has admitted he'd have never thought of hooking up with Madlib. I've listened to a lot of Gibbs previous releases & whilst he can spit fire the productions have always been really obvious & cheesy standard gangsta rap stuff. Saying that that rhyme he laid over 93' till Infinity was a early glimpse of his fire power over a good production.
      He never sounded better than he has on Pinata. I hope P2 arrives soon.

    I fuck with Gibbs heavy. I respect him as a man too and the way he holds and conducts himself. Real stand up individual. The only part of this I slightly disagree with is him not taking any responsibility whatsoever for his lyrical content. He's absolutely right that it is the parent's responsibility to control what their kids are exposed to. However, we also know that a lot of times the parents can't always be around for that. Especially in the case of the kids that are most at risk of replicating this behavior, the inner city kids, because often they come from a single parent home where the father is not around and the mother is working her ass off to try to hold down the household. Also you know that they are going to get exposed to his music when they are with friends. So with that in mind, I think it's ok to rap about this type of shit and show it in your video as long as you also make sure it comes along with warnings about the consequences of that lifestyle. And he does that in his music sometimes but I think he should have clarified that in this interview and not just took the attitude of "Fuck it, I'm gonna do what I want."

    • @KillaBlackSheep
      @KillaBlackSheep Před 9 lety +23

      thats not freddie gibbs' fault. Its not freddie gibbs' fault 1/3 black men are incarcerated/registered in the prison system, and more than 70 percent of american prisons consist of ethnic males. Freddie Gibbs is an artist. He makes poetry, he makes rap, he is a part of hip hop. The problems of parents not being there to supervise their children, or filter what they are listening to is a systematic democratic racism embedded in our capitalist society. If you're talking about artistic responsibility. If rappers dont show, these images , of selling drugs/weapons, then who's going to speak for the generation of children in ethnic america brought up by a zombified populous of crack users. Theres a lot of bad shit in the world. Especially on the internet, but teaching morals, teaching children whats right and wrong. Thats not an artists responsibility.

      KillaBlackSheep but be real, this video is awesome, and that can't be helping the problem. i guess it just matters whether that's important to you or not, but it becomes an even tougher ethical question when you get the attention freddie gets

      That's how I felt about that but you know that's where the communication with your kids come into play. Freddie has to feed his family and if he feels it's successful, he'll make it. I agree that rappers have to take more responsibility with music like this but I know it's possible to expose your kids to it but have them raised well enough to know right from wrong. I've seen it first hand with my sister and my niece and nephew. I spent a summer with them and we watched Friday After Next, played graphic video games, watched wrestling and not once did I hear or see them quote or portray anything we saw on television. No vulgar language or behavior from them whatsoever. And I can even attest to that because I was raised by my mother but I never sold drugs, never been in jail, don't have any friends in jail. I've lost people, we all do but I can say I'm blessed to be a college graduate and working full-time. It's possible, even in a single-parent home. All parents have to do is communicate.

    surprised homie didnt give a shoutout to my nigga madlib during them final thoughts. i didnt even like gibbs that much before pinata. he's a fantastic rapper, no bullshit there, but his production has always been kinda weak. madlib came in with that fire to back up gibb's words and the mainstream and indie crowds really got to see what gibbs is capable of brining to the table with the right backing.
    tl:dr pinata was aoty worthy because of madlib and for him to not give him a shout out and take full credit is kinda surprising. not like madlib would even give a shit though, he knows his accomplishments.
