- Freddie Gibbs is reflecting on the imagery in his song “Bandana,” which doubles as the title of his new album with Madlib: a filthy, blood-stained bandana. “You don’t never get away from that,” Gibbs adds. The 36-year-old rapper, whose catalog of songs about his eventful California-via-Indiana life has brought him critical love and a cult fanbase, is seated in a cavernous New York City studio on an early spring afternoon. “You don’t ever forget that. You don’t ever lay that down. You think about a lot of that when you sleep, when you wake up. It’s damn near like having PTSD. A lot of those images are ingrained and burned in my mind forever. So getting it out on raps is therapeutic.”

Josh was one of the closest and best friends in my life as well. I didn't see that coming and had me crying as soon as Freddie was right here. I miss him every damn day of my life. Phenomenal album and by far best record of the year. Deserve all the credit success and attention both of them should have had as artists in this industry since day one.. If you haven't checked out the first collab def pick up "Piñata" Certified classic just as Bandana already is.

After the therapy episode with Dr. Siri Sat Nam Singh, to see Freddie cry on camera or open up like this, specially on tracks like "Fake Names" or "Practice", i feel only genuine happiness for the man. It's amazing to have a great artist promoting growth of self and humanity through very subtle ways, no having to fake an image or lie, just him being him, and that's (for me) what makes his lyrics great, solid and straight hellfire.
