    I bought a 1982 Honda Goldwing GL1100 motorcycle for $600 and am chopping it into a bobber. This is my first motorcycle build and assisting me on this project are my mechanic father and his merry crew of friends. With all this combined wisdom, we should be able to make something worthwhile. I am going to show you a lot of detail in this video build series, so subscribe, like, and hit the notification bell so that you will benefit from all this wisdom!
    Thanks for watching the video. I hope it was useful. Below are links to the parts and tools (or types of tools) I used in this video. I do earn money from any purchases made through the Amazon links and that money helps produce the videos on this channel. Make sure to readjust your valves once the bike runs hot and re-torque everything.

    something you didn't show was you snugged the head bolts with fingers first probably. i have seen shops where they put one bolt in and torque it down then the next then the next. i like and do it the way you did

    • @HooptieDoodle
      @HooptieDoodle  Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah, I am going off my experience putting heads on my Subaru, and I did that finger tight, followed by torquing to x ft. lbs., Then to y ft. lbs. And that worked great. The Clymers manual seemed to indicate that they dropped the first torque sequence and I can only assume because someone determined it made no difference, but I could be wrong.

    last video you said first start on the next vid. I don't see a first start vid anyway in the playlist. I'm sure it will come up eventually but it would have been nice.

    Do you have to remove the cam shaft to take the head off ?

    • @HooptieDoodle
      @HooptieDoodle  Před 4 lety +1

      The camshaft comes off with the head. You need to remove the timing belts from the front of the engine, unbolt the head, and remove head.

    I’ve never successfully juggled that many “guys” at once.
    Kidding aside, this is an incredibly helpful video. How long did this take you in real time?

    • @HooptieDoodle
      @HooptieDoodle  Před 5 lety

      Getting engine out, 4 hours; removing heads, 1hour; putting on new head gaskets, timing, and valve job, 3 hours; putting engine back in bike, 5 hours, waiting for parts, forever! Wait, that's a different job - already had the parts on for this one 😜

    I might have missed it, but you said you replaced the heads with new ones. What kind were they? And approximately, what was the cost? Thank you! You are an excellent demonstrator!! I am (trying) to rebuild my 1983 naked GL1100.

    • @HooptieDoodle
      @HooptieDoodle  Před 4 lety

      The heads are not 'new', so to speak, but I took them to a local machine shop and had the valves done - new guides, valves, etc. as needed and the heads cleaned up, clearances checked. It ran me $158 if I recall correctly. It's about as close as I could get to new and, functionally, should be like new. Good luck on your build!

    Does the direction of the cam lobes matter when you put the cam back on the head? Not sure if I'm putting it upside down or not

    • @HooptieDoodle
      @HooptieDoodle  Před 4 lety

      After you get the head and cam bolted back onto the block, your gunna need to set the timing with the timing belt (czcams.com/video/P0IRYInhJSQ/video.html). That will ensure the lobes are where they should be and that the engine functions properly.

    You mentioned that the little oil tube in the middle required a couple of o- rings before the gasket went on but didn't put any on it?

    • @HooptieDoodle
      @HooptieDoodle  Před 5 lety

      This is technically called an oil restrictor ( not a "guy" as I casually referred to it). And sorry for the confusion. I mentioned it had o-rings when talking about the first head (right one), but didn't show the o-rings till working on the left head. If you go to 16:50 in the video, you'll see it in more detail. It's exactly the same on both sides (heads).

      @Force242 Před 3 lety +1

      Hello, very helpful video, I forgot to put the (bigger) O-ring on the oil restrictor, what will be the problem? Some oil leak? Do I have to start over? Thanks!
