Pokémon Scarlet / Violet introduced the Terastal phenomenon, and although it's a super fun game mechanic, it makes me insanely nostalgic for how cool and creative the designs of Mega Evolutions were! So why not design some of my own?!

The fun thing about hanafuda is that they actually DO have a connection with the Iberian peninsula! When the Portuguese traded with Japan they imported their playing cards which were made like cardboard tablets. After the ban on gambling in Japan hanafuda were invented as cards with flower motifs that looked more japanese. This type of card making fell out of fashion in Europe but the slappy paper wrapped cards were continued to be made in Japan!
And it’s also what Nintendo started as more than a century ago, a hanafuda card maker.

As someone who already loved Meowscarada, that theme of a card suit, cherry blossom, magic cat is beautiful.

@@shadow6-4 but energy sources are only in galar, you would need to bring eternatus to get a dinamax or gigamax
I love that you kinda did 1 of "every kind of mega" like 1 that just looks kinda like a new evolution (ie. Aerodactyl, or charizard X) 1 that puts focus on 1 design aspect and blows it up (ie. kangaskahn and slowbro) and 1 that just looks like a slightly different version of the base (ie Lucario, Blazkein, and heracross ) which I'm just realizing is mainly fighting types so maybe you're onto something there
I miss mega evolutions, most unique thing Pokémon has ever done
There not really unique over all but for the franchise definitely and I miss em so much
they werent that good, unbalanced

Amazing video! I love how you expanded on each and everyone of the starters themes! On another note If you wanted to relate the cards to spain, the traditional cards here are wands, coins, cups and swords rather than the classical clubs, spades, hearts and diamonds, if you ever plan on revisiting this video's concept you could play with that aswell.

I love the Meowsquerade evolution! In Quackuaval's case I wish you made the feathers in his tail and head bigger and more colorful to emphasize the Carnaval exotic dancer motif
I LOOOVED every single evolution! Quaquavals tail changing colors was so charming, I just would have put the right part of Meowscaradas cape away.
It's impressive that you can get away with designing Pokémon in a different style to the original one without people claiming the designs don't fit the game well. I think it's thanks to the fact you drew the other Pokémon to make them all part of a similar style.
The concept behind the mega Skelederge is beautiful, I love the idea that the borb becomes a majestic phoenix
I think it would've been really cool if you made the Meowscarada mask look like a stealth bomber with the whole invisibility cloak, flower bombs, and just the whole sneaky vibe.

Really love all the ideas that went into these designs!
Mega Quaquavel looks awesome, and fits fight in with a lot of similar Mefas, like Lucario and Blaziken, as mentioned in the video!
I especially love how the headband turned out, and the Rainbow feathers really elevate it to a top tier design!
Mega Meowscarada looks pretty sick, though I kinda wish it expanded on the Puss in Boots concept more (though I think that's just my issue with Meowscarada to begin with)
The Paw Eye might be too much as well, drawing a bit too much attention imo...
The idea behind Mega Skeledirge is really sick, but I think the execution looks a bit Derpy...
I think having Skeledirge be sranding slightly upright and having the Bird tower over it might sell the concept better! Still, pretty neat idea though!

Meowscarada looks pretty good so I don’t really have any additions to suggest, Skeledirge could have the bird resemble Moltres and maybe be linked somehow into how Moltres are born? And Quaquaval is just. So so perfect. Love that funny samba dancing peacock so much.

To add upon the description list of skeledirge, it's skeleton decal on its face is heavily reminiscent of dias de Los Muertos (day of the dead) decal, adding to the ghost theming. To further increase the ghost vibes, it's also a ghost pepper.

I love mega quaquaval, quite like meowscarada but despite regular skeledirge being my fav, the mega design of just adding a bird is kinda off, idk. i think its the length of the bird's legs plus how little the ribs connect to its body that makes the second design look odd. Overall tho, i absolutely love your quaquaval design, it is just *more* and, in this case, that is exactly how it should be. Love it.
Mega Meowscarada definitely has to be my favorite! You did a great job on it! And Mega Skeledirge actually makes sense when it comes to bird! It's accessory gets the mega energy like Kangaskhan or Slowbro!

Mega evolution was a blessing and a curse. It was the best mechanic but was so good no other mechanic will reach how good it was. Banger design tho
It would be funnier (and cooler) that Mega-Skeledirge keeps his feral crocodile appearence but it stands up in 2 legs with the help of the fire Fenix holding Skeledirge's Shoulders with his fire claws.
I think it would've been cool to have the fire bird on Skeledirge take it's soul and take it over. Then, reversion back to regular Skeledirge would put the soul back into it. I like an idea of a "shared body with 2 souls" kind of thing.

Small notice: When mads leans, his right foot lifts. I believe he was using it as balance, which I think is a really nice touch that he could’ve not done. He also looks looks like a really chill kid that came from a rich family

I feel like the bird should over power the Skeledirge and sort of resemble Moltrese to help that. The idea with this is after Skeledirge takes care of the bird, it now will take care of it. Plus their a team and you always have to lift up your team mates (literally or not).
I really love how you analyze and incorporate the design concepts of the original designs. Great analysis and final designs!
One idea I had was, make Fuecoco’s final evolution mega have it’s body fused with the bird.
Like it’s arms and foot be given the bird’s wings and legs or something.

This video is amazing especially the skeledirge mega in my opinion I could see game freak doing that or the other Idea you had with the chorus of fire birds but you should do more video like this and thank you for spending your time and creativity making these megas
I am already a fan of Mega Skeledirge and I could imagine it having Levitate what with the fiery bird lifting Skeledirge off the ground. Also it'd be nice if Protein and Libero's nerfs were undone since I think a Mega Blaziken situation would fit Mega Meowscarda. Also undo Battle Bond's nerf as well.
Would love to see you do more Custom mega evolutions in the future.

honestly i really loved the 'choir of birds' idea for fuecoco's line but the giant bird on top of it is just so goofy that i think it's cool. maybe it has a special connection to moltres??
I also guess for another thing is that Meowscarada & Quaquaval will join the ranks of the group/faction of Starter Pokemon that despite the gender ratio, their design plus theme-origin heavily implies them to being Female Pokemon; just like they did with Delphox and Primarina
I love what you did with meowscarada! For skeledirge instead of a large bird, I'd maybe add multiple small birds with instrument shapes, during skeledirge s signature move, his main bird becomes a microphone, so it could expand from that idea
Meowscarada is by a really close call my favorite, and this kind of videos are interesting, I'd be down with having more of them.
Quaquaval is my favorite one of Scarlet and Violet, you made it even better with the mega evo!

Woah, this is so awesome. Love your animation style! I totally agree with your instinct/restraint to change one major thing about Skeledirge, makes total sense when considering Slowbro etc. Just to make some kinda contribution- when you mentioned how squared Skeledirge's details are, it made me think that maybe the bird on its back could be tapping its (beak / talons) along Skeledirge's (back / stomach / snout) as if it was a xylophone? Really, I think a XYlophone reference would be a funny shout out to X & Y! Keep up the great work, just started subscribing :)

I'm from spain and I can't wrap my head around the idea they didn't make quaquaval dance flamenco, like, that is a missed oportunity.
Honestly I’d image the fire bird on Skeledirge would grow up, but at the same time helping Skeledirge to stand on its hind legs and look sorta like jetwing optimus from transformers or megadragonbowser from Mario + rabbids.

Well, there is plenty of evidence for Kalos DLC. But I think that it's more likely that they would add Megas for the Kalos starters so that they can have a sort of contrast thing going on.
