  • This week we tackle the southern part of Kakadu. Its amazing that there is still beautiful water to swim in this late in the dry season. We experience more negative behavior from others in the park, but have got to say the place is really special. Unfortunately Gumlom falls and camping was closed at the time, but still plenty to see in the park.

    We would rather rock up than prebook you never know what may happen along the way plus you just may need time to take it all in, so yer first in best dressed. Another great episode please keep up the great work.

    First in best dressed in my opinion. Just finished Cape York, and the Qld system is a right royal pain. How the hell can one plan the campsites without knowledge of road conditions, weather etc etc, and with zero mobile coverage… bring back the on site tags with honesty box.
    Fantastic videos 😎

      Exactly, it is such problem when on a long trip. It's OK if it's a weekend trip and you stay at 1 site. But when you have so many variables, it's a headache thanks David

    What a great opportunity to get to see Twin falls. We loved swimming at Jim Jim after the hike as it was a warm day for us too. We love winging it and not too much pre planning. Yellow water is amazing! We saw birds, crocs, buffalo and brumbies.

    Hi guys, first in best dressed is the go. Arnhem Land is regulated by pre- booking the sites and I can tell you ... it's frustrating!!! The most popular campsites are generally pre-booked months in advance...and..a lot of the time.. no-one even turns up!. I found this out by going for day visits. Even folks from Gove are at Wits end with it all. Anyways..another great episode guys! Safe travels!. Just a heads-up...I made it back to WA, however, I'm in mandatory Isolation at home for another 9 days. Cheers!

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh what, they are so strict over there! But it is keeping Covid out of the state. I think they have to change it, so many times people just can't get to their booking on time, yet travellers like us can't book until a day out, so we have no chance.

    Heya, great video as always.
    I like your idea of half the camp ground precooked and the other half just rock up.
    Question , what books or apps would you recommend not only in Kakadu National Park but your whole trip planning and information?
    We are planning to go away for 6 months next year from Apri,l our first stop is Fraser Island. Then cap York, after that we will be heading west.
    Many thanks for your video's.

      The main app we use is wiki camps while travelling. But we did most of the research at home before leaving writing notes in a A4 book and have a schedule of places we really wanted to see. We did most of the research watching CZcams videos where we could actually see what places looked like. Then we could see on wikicamps where camp spots, water and other things where in that particular area.

      And if you did how far ahead?

    • @GoingOverland

      Not on this lap, in the rainforest areas of NSW and Queensland they are more likely. No ticks either.

    How do you assess the safety to swim? I was at Jim Jim falls earlier this year but my partner was overly cautious and didn’t swim as she was concerned a salty may have got back in. I wasn’t as concerned as was confident the rangers were on top of it, however I didn’t swim out of her concerns.

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  Před 2 lety +1

      We have a good talk to the rangers first. See where everyone else has been swimming, make sure the water is clear and we have a good look. Only swim in water holes, not rivers, creeks, Billabongs.

  • @Wolf359E

    How can you let your kids swim there, are you crazy, its not 100% safe and the rangers could have missed a croc in there.
