The story of the song is so beautiful. Smeraldo is a fictional flower in the Bangtan universe. This fiction is create by BIGHIT. A TRUTH UNTOLD story called, 'La Città di smeraldo' that takes place in a small town in Italy in the 1500s-1600s. The story's about an 'ugly' man who hid in an old castle alone. because of his looks he received lots of hate & cruelty while growing up. He never opened his heart to anyone. Whenever they tried to approach him, he hid in anger. His happiness was to plant flowers in his garden. One day a woman appeared near the man's castle. She jumped over the garden fence and stole a flower. This angered the man at first. So he watched his garden all night. But when he fell a sleep, the woman took another flower. This continued for several nights. The man pretended to be asleep and watched the woman steal a flower. He started becoming curious about the woman. He began waiting for her. without realizing he kept waiting for her to come and the next day seemed a little brighter. Following after her one day he realized that she was selling the flowers that she stole from him to make a living. The man desperately wanted to help the woman. But he was afraid she would be terrified by the way he looks. He knew she would not love his 'grotesque' appearance. He came to a conclusion that the only way he would be able to help her is to let her continue stealing flowers from his garden. The man decided to make a flower that doesn't exist on the planet. So that the woman could sell them at a expensive price. He began to make the flower in his castle. After many unsuccessful attempts, the man made a flower that didn't exist and filled his garden. But the woman stopped coming. No matter how long he waited she never came to his garden. He eventually found out that the woman had died.
It was not Bighit created the story, but it was a popular folkfore on northern italia (Piemonte, Lombrardia or Veneto region. That are all Italian "regions" of the north. One of the northwest. A central and one of the north-east.)
The story has passed down oral from generation to generation. Bighit took that story for inspiration for this song also for part of bangtan universe, because of the meaning of the smeraldo flower n the folkstory message. Jungkooks adlibs and harmonizing with the others during this just elevates the absolutely stunning vocal performance by each and every member, his little additional note to his parts just add that extra flair that is 100% jk. Each vocalist has their own specific style that sets them apart. Somehow we ended up with these 4 legends in one group… i remember hearing bts didn’t have any good vocalists before i even listened to their music … and like bitch where?!!?!! Each of them is an absolute star with golden vocals!!!
THERE'S A REASON WHY BTS IS THE BIGGEST GROUP OF THE WORLD EVER!!!!!! THIS ONE IS ANOTHER MASTER PIECE! There are so many amazing groups and singers with incredible vocal lines, but this is not enough if you not sing in the way BTS songs, with their hearts, souls, we can feel them and feel every single song (personal opinion). I love your reactions - I think that you are beginning to be more comfortable with reacting to BTS. I’m a 65 yo grandmother that was introduced to BTS when my granddaughter asked to to buy her a BTS Memories DVD, I did. Then a became ARMY in 2015.

This song is so painful but yet so beautiful. Jimin's voice ends me evrytime: it's so full of emotions that I can't no cry listening him. Even if he was sick at that time, I can feel the song throught his voice. Just Wow!!!

this song seriously hit so hard to ARMY's heart. As celebrities they have to be so careful of what they show, talk, act, look because everything can be on the media & attract haters.
So they have to put on the "masks", "hide in the shadows" and sometimes being glorified so much that when they compare to their real selves could be "ugly" "the truth untold".
But at the same time, they so want their real selves out in front of ARMY whom they love and knowing that we love them.
the lyrics just speak out their struggles in their mind.

This song is actually based on a story. There was a man who lived in a big castle but kept to himself since he thought he wasn't beautiful. One day he found out that a woman came near his home and picked his flowers, he was angry at first but became curious of the woman and fell in love with her, but didn't say anything since he thought he was ugly ("can't show you me, give you me") He planted very rare flowers so she could sell them for a bigger price, but one day she stopped coming by and the man found out that she had passed away. He regretted everything and wished he confessed to her ("if I stood up in front of you, would everything change now?") And the line, "i still want you" means that he wants her back. If he loved himself then would be able to confess to the one he loves?
As BTS once said... "True love first begins with loving myself"
the story behind this song is about a man who believed he was ugly, and stayed in his castle all the time. when he needed to go outside, he'd cover his face with a mask because he was too ashamed.
he owns a garden infront of his castle that grows a unique blue flower. one day, he saw a beautiful woman stealing the flowers from his garden. he was enraged, so he put his mask on and followed her to see what she would do with it. it turned out that she was poor and was selling the flower to make a living. the man felt bad, so he planted lots of these flowers in his garden. the woman would come to his garden everyday to take the flowers, and he eventually fell in love with her, but he was too ashamed of his face to confess his love to her so he just watched her from afar.
one day the woman stopped visiting his garden. the man became confused, so he put his mask on, and left his garden to find her. he discovered that she had passed away. the man was heartbroken, and was so angry at himself that he didn't confess his love for her before it was too late
Truth Untold is one of my most favourite BTS songs. It's the only time you'll ever see ARMY quiet during concert. So vulnerable, full of desperation and regret. It's a masterpiece.

I just had a thought - V should do a solo version of this song on his mixtape! After all, the group took "Blue and Grey," which was supposed to be a solo, so he should take "Truth Untold." Lol. THANK YOU; I feel like no one should react to stage mixes, I mean they are great to watch once you've already seen some performances but not for a first-time reaction. This was pretty good IMO but in a lot of other stage mixes they use the studio version of the song rather than the live vocals to make the editing easier, so then what's the point even :/

You See, THE TRUTH UNTOLD is One of Those song that is really sad but it comforts you as well.
They are the best in the world, they have the best vocals.
You know why we stand bts so much. We are not obsessed but they make us amused with their talent. The more i know them the more i love them.
You should react their performance at mma, House of card live performance and cristal snow
I'm so glad you did this one. The emotion was real. The first 2 or 3 times they sang this song, one or two of the members will have tears in their eyes or will choked up on emotions but still they will sing the song beautifully. Yep that is the vocal line. You should also do "House of Card" 77. Do you know that before the pandemic they used to release 2 or sometimes 3 albums a year (with a minimum of 7 or 8 songs). And this went on for 7 years. 2021 will be the only year with only one album. Now do the math. Yes sir that is a lot. And touring non stop. I'm not even going to talk about their movies, documentary series, their "Bon voyage" and "Run" series. And they still find the time to mostly write or sometimes co-write their own songs, co-produce or produce them and learn all those choreos. No artist in the whole word work as hard as they do or has. broke as many records. Thank you for taking the time to know them and be open minded.
