His mother was an interpreter for the British Government presumably during the war so I guess that helped mitigate his German accent (not that there's anything wrong with having an accent ofcourse)
@@bryanperalta740 Not sure if that's it, he has distinctive American "R" which isn't British, could be admiration, it's typical for foreign people to adopt other accents subconsciously after just a short time
The Italian boy was very conscious of his country political state, had an in depth view regarding Europe's future and wasn't shy to underline the contradiction of the other hosts. Hope he is well.
The Australian girl sounds so soft spoken and kind, she seems like the type of person you could easily be friends with and who would help you out if you were having trouble with work
I noticed particularly German representative logic and open mindness and honesty. Italian representative kind the same but somehow his way of seeing things is stuck by something... How ironic though the best definition of what Europe ( project should be) was given by Switzerland, no wonder...
That one American girl was very pretty, but the way she asked that question was funny, its like answer if you dare 😆 i wonder if she still alive, she is 16 in 56, so born in 1940, she would be 80 or 81 today, so there is a slim chance
I simply don't understand how could wise people as average Germans are have been nazis. This german student is brilliant, and seems like he really cares about European Union and trying to keep together different cultures, also considering that this debate is only a dozen years later the end of the WWII
because smart people aren't necessarily to be "good boys", they don't have to be. what's the point of it anyway the germans were smart, they almost conquered all of Europe. and it was a great time for them. look at them now that's they're good boys, the weakest Germany has been, full of immigrants (especially Muslim immigrants 🤮😱) horrible military, a not so great economy.
Because Germany was in a state of shambles economically during the Weimar Republic. Hitler took advantage of this by blaming one group, among others, for the "humiliation" and defeat of Germany. That should be a lesson to us all about demogaugory, after all it's going on right now in the US and other parts of the world.
Damn, I was pretty interested in hearing the students develop their answers on 'europeanism' and 'americanism' Would've liked to hear more, but I think I agree more with Romano (the switzerland representative)'s answer I just kinda squinted when the american boy and girl gave their answers Like 20:55 "I feel there is very little hate in America" ehhhhhhhhhhh... press x to doubt If I had to give my own answers to the question of defining what Europe and the US is... I tend to think of Europe as a conglomeration of nations with their own cultures, histories and important identities-- concentrated in a relatively small part of the world Whereas America certainly has history and culture and an identity, but it was shaped by fewer dominating visions of what it should be Maybe a naive simplification (given I really don't know much about either America or Europe other than general history stuff), if I tried to compare them, would be: America is what Europe would be if it was younger and each state didn't conform to one overarching ideal of a nation This is a pretty basic answer, I think if I knew more or were currently studying this topic, I might be capable of a better answer
Except America obviously has a very strong idea of what it is. It’s culture is being globally projected. You’re on an American website. Also, there isn’t much hate in America. At least, not proportional to the # of different groups present within it.
Does anyone know of any updates regarding the German guy, Christophe Berton? Many viewers think that people "back then" were more educated or erudite: not so. People today know far more than they did then. These students were the cream of the crop and most exposed to new ideas.
It really shows the Eurocentric and especially British attitudes of Australian education rather than a focus on our own socio-geographic region that the Australian delegate (was her name Elizabeth?) was even included in this conversation, and that on the few occasions that she spoke, she spoke about the UK
Australia had a white australia policy until the 1960s and the immigration to Australia was overwhelmingly British. The ties to Britain were strong, perhaps stronger than today.
So interesting that the USA reps think that at the point of founding everyone was respected, every individual was equal...and the Civil rights movement, segregation and slavery seems to go right over their heads. They talk about unity, and are oblivious to their own societal and political division. The Europeans and Antipodean are far more concious of the complexities of their own societies.
1956: "I expect that not a country in Europe which likes them" (England) 03:17
2021: nothing changed (after Euro 2020 final between Italy vs. England)
The german boy speaks english like american.
His mother was an interpreter for the British Government presumably during the war so I guess that helped mitigate his German accent (not that there's anything wrong with having an accent ofcourse)
He sound more American then German 😆

He is still alive, he was an university professor and founded a publishing company.
@@raffaelepirozzi6528 glad to know that.
The Australian says so much in her silence and good cheer.

Ok, well technically she's still a girl though.
I noticed particularly German representative logic and open mindness and honesty. Italian representative kind the same but somehow his way of seeing things is stuck by something... How ironic though the best definition of what Europe ( project should be) was given by Switzerland, no wonder...
The German guy (Christoph Bertram) became a journalist, organised Bilderberg meetings and used to work as the chairman of an influental think tank.

Which American girl 🙃
SLIM chance? People routinely live to that age and beyond. Especially women in developed countries with high education and income.
I just googled Romano and it seems he is still alive!
Any info on what happened to him?

the Italian boy founded a publishing house "Francesco Brioschi Editore"
I like how the australian delegate speak so calm very much
the french girl 😍
French delegate (Genevieve Martineau) was a most dominant and supreme attitude of the all
Switzerland loves to talk

Funny the French woman sounds German, the German guy sounds American and the Australian girl sounds English 😆😆
The german guy literally counted churchill amongst the greatest men alive

no american in the group apart from the host.
I realized the point of German even Swiss.
The point of German people wants unified europe.
Switzerland is the best part of Germany, the best part of France and the best part of Italy! 🇨🇭>🇩🇪🇫🇷🇮🇹
The answer *_Russia_* still applies in 2023 ::))

This is probably the least impressive bunch
