Thanks for taking the time to show us how it’s done. I’m ready to get the upper HSM (& keep saving for the disaster prevention kit & lower fuel filter set up). I see that you didn’t attach an aluminum quick disconnect on the return line. Looks like you don’t really need it, since no real time save (I’ve seen another cont creator suggest installing a quick disconnect). Y’know, since you now have an “upside down” removable upper filter, you might consider pre-priming the filter by filling it 1/2 - 3/4 w/ fresh fuel. You could even pre-fill the lower filter by adding just enough fuel to moisten the internal element, but I’m not sure that this would make anywhere close to the same difference. I always pre fill “upside down” oil filters on all my machines that have them, and will do this once I install the HSM Upper fuel kit (just like heavy equipment diesel mechanics do w/ upside down fuel & oil filters). They claim that this pre-filling filters is easier on your pumps & motor.
@@G.I.JeffsWorkbench 100% agree on filling the filters. I do that. Some videos I talk about it and others I just do it. It’s funny how divided the community is on that topic. As for the disconnect I don’t really find I need to take it off to take the upper filter off, like you mentioned. It works both ways though. Also make sure to prime with the key. These new trucks are really good about purging air, but even still it’s important. Thanks for the comment!
I run the upper and lower fuel filter kits from HSM, on my 2014 F-350 Platinum. Easy fuel filter changes, better filters than Ford OEM. One trick I use, to avoid the possible suction to the fuel tank on the lower filter change, is to pull the top filter and change it, leaving the fuel supply line from the tank disconnected. When you drain the lower filter, there is no vacuum because the upper line is still disconnected. Drain and drop the lower filter as normal, the only fuel I get is the fuel in the filter, and the upper line, if that has not drained back while I was changing the upper filter. So, very little excess fuel is drained.
For those of you worried about the long drain times, and all of the extra fuel, this is a great solution, even when staying with the stock filters. I don't worry about filling the fuel filters before reinstalling them. I just cycle the key a few times, 3-4 time while waiting for the fuel pump to stop (or about 30-60 seconds). After that, starts and runs every time.
For those of you wondering, you can look up the size of the filter and flow rates, and even "upgrade" to something with more flow while having a smaller filter/micron rating, that matches the threads on the HSM filter blocks. I run the Baldwin upper filter as a BF 46228, and the stock Cat 175-2949 on the lower filter block.
Fantastic feedback. I’ve run into the tank suction issue before. I’ve found it’s also minimized with less fuel in the tank. Thanks for posting this will help other folks for sure.
Just did the SPE setup with both CAT separator and filter. Moves the filter under the truck and gets rid of the under hood unit. Both are enormous filters, easily handle 10-15k miles.

Have you ever had any problems priming the system? I primed about 10x and the truck is having a hard time starting. It will crank but won’t start.
I haven’t had an issue priming. I usually prime 3-4 times prior to starting. If this is a one off event there is probably air entering the system via one of the gaskets/orings. I would pull the filter and double check that they didn’t get doubled up.
My 2022 6.7 Power Stroke has 3 lines going to the primary filter. Noticed yours only has 2….
Are you talking about the engine bay filter? If so it has 3, the bleed line is on the back side and with this kit is converted to an AN line. It is tough to see.
@@DrivingForwardBuilds yes the engine bay filter I didn’t see the third line that was a bit confusing to me.
What kit did you use for the lower fuel filter relocation? My 2020 has the OEM filter on the side vs in front of the tank like every video i see

How often do you change the lower fuel filter ?
I'm currently changing both filters every 12-15k. I will drain the lower every 6 months or so. In the 42k miles I've had the truck the WIF sensor has never come on, and I have not had water in my bowl after draining. I also run 1-2 ozs of Hot Shots EDT at every fill-up since new. I buy in the 1-gallon jug to spread the cost out.
