they dont have that corny dvd splash page sound either. Thats why i cant listen to movie soundtracks they all just remind me of a DVD menu screen and nobody will press play.
It’s crazy how now days this tempo is heavy used in the gangster rap branch called “drill music” …. Loved fighting this boss as a teen in the 2000’s pulling the super Nintendo out of my grandma’s closet and starting it up again.
That moment when the Arwing finally goes literally off the rails and turns to face the Great Commander, with the Venomian surface and the stars rotating all around you, was so epic and cinematic.
Everybody rightly remembers the Phantron and Great Commander boss battles when this plays, but almost nobody remembers the Galactic Rider battle where you're fighting an escape pod that launches hoverbikes at you on a highway overlooking a city, lol.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the Idea of facing the Great Commander in Venom 3's Orbital where you practically have the closest to All-Range mode as you can in Star Fox SNES while basically having an Arwing version of Horse-jousting against the Great commander while above a very beautiful Venom Atmosphere? Damn did Nintendo not let the 16 bits get them down, and this game is proof. But the Great Commander is such a great idea that I wished came back for another round against Fox
olddie but goodie. I can't believe they didn't bring back more of the polygonny style and bosses like this, as a kid it actually instilled a sense of fear, fantastic. Phantron is also a fabulous boss (if pretty easy tbh).
Fox: It Transformed! Falco: Will this thing ever give up?! Peppy: Watch out! His projectiles are more devastating! Falco: Any time Slippy... Slippy: I got it! Updating the enemy's shield analysis now!
Yeah, I always loved the idea that Andross's final and most powerful battleship is an AI that is able to transform and made to be built to utmost perfection. It really gives you that feeling that you're fighting against an evil genius's best creation.
I always wondered why Nintendo never brought back the Great Commander? It was a nice boss just imaging its transformation with the new graphics! *.* Lets see if Star Fox Zero revive him.
Wolfeingmer oh yes please. i didnt think about it till now, but i can say that thanks to Great Commander boss, all-range mode even exists since thats the first and only all-range mode moment in this game (sort of)
Phantron was EPIC I remember seeing his tiny lil ass in Venom orbit and running away after beating him, and then wanting round two only to find he got an upgrade and proceeded to hand my ass on a platter till I figured out his tricks
Brings back memories of Great Commander (Mr. Insta-kill if you touched any part of him), Great Commander Tank Mode (which had an attack that could insta-kill kill or just damage when it felt like it), Metal Smashers and Phantron. Anyone remember firing a nova bomb at Phantron when he splits into three and he countered with that weird missle that you couldn't damage and it instantly destroyed you?
Lol its a heat seeking missile, you have to actually not move to avoid it. I never thought to use bombs on Phantron all these years for whatever reason.
Not hearing this for years and coming back to it is amazing. I forgot how awesome this song was. Why don't most modern games have good tracks like this anymore?
my opinion because in the new videogames the composers are not that professional as the old guys .. they are only have a realistic sample sounds not a great melodies ! Hajime Hirasawa is amazing I adore this soundtrack !!
@@infinitethejackal8718 The "most useful" tip I can give you is to shoot a single bomb right after the assemble has completed. The vents are all opened. It will not one shot it, but if you can get the best spot, it can even drain the health to 50%.
What I did was brake and boost whenever I was moving away from it so that way the timings of most of the panels were opened whenever I was about to shoot them
[INCOMING ENEMY] “So, you’re the rodents sent by General Pepper? Not bad, getting all the way here…but your luck just ran out. Great Commander, ready all cannons! GREAT COMMANDER, TRANSFORM!” Last Line of Defence Great Commander X “DON’T LET HIM GET THROUGH!” “YOU COCKY LITTLE FREAKS!” “THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING, WE CAN’T BE LOSING!” “No…NO…EEEIIAAAAAAAGHHH!!”
Of all the boss themes, there is one that is either missing or not added, what happened to the boss theme for the Asteroid Boss? this one sounds similar to it.
I just did it with no bombs and with only single laser and it was hell for me. The second form of the boss didn't even compare to the first one at all for me
2 people ran out of bombs dueling the great commander Mid-Orbit. No really thats quite bad. Like the second last target you have to hit before your able to dissable him was impossible to hit for some reason and has to be bombed.
When I encountered the Metal Smasher. I thought you have to use your brakes when it’s ABOUT to crush you. But no, you have to use your brakes when its COMING to you. T_T
Man this composer really knew how to make catchy short loops
Thanks to Hajime hirasawa! :D
they dont have that corny dvd splash page sound either. Thats why i cant listen to movie soundtracks they all just remind me of a DVD menu screen and nobody will press play.
This to me is still the best Star Fox soundtrack, Assault comes close
This composer went onto make a ringtone company called Faith Inc.
It’s crazy how now days this tempo is heavy used in the gangster rap branch called
“drill music”
….
Loved fighting this boss as a teen in the 2000’s pulling the super Nintendo out of my grandma’s closet and starting it up again.
The Great Commander... his horrible hit detection strikes fear into the hearts of even the bravest of warriors.
***** who knew bowling balls would be so useful in space combat lol
True...
Legitimately spent 20 minutes on this guy before actually just flat out losing last time i ran through the hard path
Twin Blasters level
Wait what?
That moment when the Arwing finally goes literally off the rails and turns to face the Great Commander, with the Venomian surface and the stars rotating all around you, was so epic and cinematic.
oh God, The poweranger Jabronies-
Dont even
Second Gen Enuendos are easy to Proclimate when you dedicate.
Space jousting that asshole was some of the most fun I've had videogaming.
My Perfect Fight
It wasn't literally on rails, though.
Everybody rightly remembers the Phantron and Great Commander boss battles when this plays, but almost nobody remembers the Galactic Rider battle where you're fighting an escape pod that launches hoverbikes at you on a highway overlooking a city, lol.
i remmber that when i defeated galactic rider the game literallly crashed without any reason at all

The Atomic base is a similar kind of thing where you're spinning around it constantly
I thought Phantron was cruel...
Until i met...
*GREAT COMMANDER*
Slippy: Something going haywire on that shield analysis!
Phantron transforms and Boss-o-meter doubles up
Fox: It Transformed!
Falco: Will this thing ever give up?!
Peppy: Watch out! His projectiles are more devastating!
Falco: Any time Slippy...
Slippy: I got it! Updating the enemy's shield analysis now!
WARK! WARK WARK WARK WARK! Everytime you hit it.
***** If it's a video for music to a retro game, Yeah I'm going to be there 9 times out of 10.
Accurate sound FX, haha
Sounds kinda like it’s sucking up the lasers.
The chords in this make me think you're fighting something technological and sophisticated: Phantron or Great Commander.
Yeah, I always loved the idea that Andross's final and most powerful battleship is an AI that is able to transform and made to be built to utmost perfection. It really gives you that feeling that you're fighting against an evil genius's best creation.
This music just feels so right for a penultimate battle!
Goddamn....the tympani is what makes this tune...
The tympani is what makes this whole game.
"Do a Barrel Roll"
"Use Bombs Wisely"
- Peppy Hare(64)
I always wondered why Nintendo never brought back the Great Commander? It was a nice boss just imaging its transformation with the new graphics! *.* Lets see if Star Fox Zero revive him.
Wolfeingmer oh yes please. i didnt think about it till now, but i can say that thanks to Great Commander boss, all-range mode even exists since thats the first and only all-range mode moment in this game (sort of)
Well I think the core boss things also can count as all range mode or at least the base of it, but I never thought about it like that haha
Wolfeingmer I want phantron back too
+Wolfeingmer
You do fight the Attack Carrier in Sector Omega in a similar fashion to the Great Commander's first form in this game.
Patch93 Yeah I saw it! Incredible how they made the first boss of 64 into the final one...well one of the final ones.
Phantron was EPIC I remember seeing his tiny lil ass in Venom orbit and running away after beating him, and then wanting round two only to find he got an upgrade and proceeded to hand my ass on a platter till I figured out his tricks

Anyone remember firing a nova bomb at Phantron when he splits into three and he countered with that weird missle that you couldn't damage and it instantly destroyed you?
I remember that! Phantron was my favorite boss.
Lol its a heat seeking missile, you have to actually not move to avoid it. I never thought to use bombs on Phantron all these years for whatever reason.
AngetColslaw Never thought to do that, then again I was 9.
I never knew that, though I guess it's because I never used missiles on him.
I tried that twice and somehow avoided the missile by just steering around it. Really annoying boss but the transformations were cool.
Better be prepared to hear that plane explosion tune a lot against this boss, lol.
Once you figure his pattern out, he isn't all that tough.
The greatest badass songs ever
It sounds like the Dancing Insector and Monarch Dodora are dancing with each other to a Venom techno beat........
I agree. This music is a bit underrated. It needs more love.
@Joey Ford It really really is. Does he know how much of a loss his departure was to the gaming world?
When you fight the evil villain whilst in the middle of tripping from psychedelics.
The timpani tho.
Timpani Symphony.
catchy.
Now all I can picture is the Great Commander endlessly spinning around with its arms out, ready to whack you out of oblivion. Very fitting...
Damn that Great Commander!!!
Excellent percussion for Andross making Transformers.
I like star fox 64 better, but the soundtrack in the original trounces it any day.
This sounds like a military march.
Drill music tempo if isn’t slowed 10%
man i looooooove this tune omg.
Aun recuerdo lo emocionado que estaba por llegar al jefe de Venom en el nivel 3
Realmente me costó vencer al Great Commander
"Boss Venom"? Kaz, I'm having deja vu, here
Why are we on Lylat, just to suffer
It's in case people want an extended version so that they don't have to keep playing the video over and over.
When you and your friends go up against the best Smash player at the party and he plays Fox/Falco
Mr Man Fox is more worse CAUSE HE HAS THE NUMBER ONE SPOT OF THE FIGHTER RANK!!!!!!
1.25x speed sounds a Kirby track.
Wow
Great Commander Orbital Duel >:D
This is the jam
Excellent
Literally a more intimidating version of Rock Crusher
This song reminds me from some of the Boss Battles in The Legend of Zelda.
The one dislike was probably Andross and his giant squares.
No it would be Fox McCloud and his team since this is the enemy's theme
Star wolf disliked because they wasn't in the game
😅😅😅😂😂😂😂
Cool
This is the same thing as Boss Fortuna but with different instruments.
the great commander's 1st phase is the closest we can get to a dogfight
This make me feel desperate, phantron kicksass!
damn u phantron!
I hated Phantron, too.
Holy shit that fucking intro is really Super Nintendo-ee
You'll be hearing this theme for a long time when Fox faces the Great Commander...
I wish this was on Soundcloud, I would upload it myself but I don't know how.
To download: copy the video URL and go to ytmp3.cc/ ; u can grab the music then upload to SoundCloud
I feel a Drill music sample coming…
I have this game. Bought it just last summer, I think.
These music...,remembers the andross starship (great commander),was so hard to destroy it
This fucking music I swear to God.
At the start when Phantron changes into a much stronger form, you become wide eyed and say "Uh oh! He just became a whole lot stronger and meaner!".
I was reading chapter 42 of The Promised Neverland and that song actually fits The Chase!
I remember the great commander that fight was rough 😕
Great Commander...
Just beat it on my switch with no bombs left at the start and with only single lasers
@@infinitethejackal8718 Must have been a hell of annoying fight then...
@@The_D_ray oh it was. The first time I beat it I had twin lasers and died when it was dying

The Sterling silver is HARD
I sense a lot of military/army vibes from this song.

also the boss venom of level 2. the music seems to be a little accelerated
Of all the boss themes, there is one that is either missing or not added, what happened to the boss theme for the Asteroid Boss? this one sounds similar to it.
Hope you stocked up on bombs for the Great Commander. Because those lasers aren't gonna do anything to that hit detection.
I just did it with no bombs and with only single laser and it was hell for me. The second form of the boss didn't even compare to the first one at all for me
i love the great comander beging boss music
Didn't mind the great commander going fully trasnformer, but WHY did it have to be metal balls?
Got smashed a few times with the drum boss
Phantron.
Sounds like a RPG fight
hey man a detail you forgot a venom boss version The Great Commander. has a different intro
0.5 speed trust me
That is good. It sounds like a song
It's a bit too choppy at 0.50 speed... but I agree it's more grand. I find 0.75 speed keeps it smooth but still adds grandeur.
Did it. Goddamn. New soundtrack to finish an exam fast in order to leave early
0:05
He's split into three????
2 people ran out of bombs dueling the great commander Mid-Orbit.
No really thats quite bad. Like the second last target you have to hit before your able to dissable him was impossible to hit for some reason and has to be bombed.
*0.5x playback speed* = ¿?¿
La musica snes es la mejor
The Phantron, Metal Smasher, and Great Commander... I loathed the Metal Smasher...
Great Commander 1 was the most annoying, in my opinion.
Yeah. Fuck the Great Commander and it's iron balls.
When I encountered the Metal Smasher. I thought you have to use your brakes when it’s ABOUT to crush you. But no, you have to use your brakes when its COMING to you. T_T
Phantron 2, Metal Smasher and Great Commander is SO annoying, Phantron, Galactic Ride and Great Commander is some easy
