When you're just coming in after light speed and then zoom into the cockpit automatically at the start of the stage, it synchs with the music. That's the most memorable thing about this game.

    • @ericb3157
      @ericb3157 Před 3 lety +16

i think it also syncs well when you unzoom while approaching the first battleship.
but what i remember most is being FORCED to turn SIDEWAYS to squeeze through the ship!
the first game i ever played where it's POSSIBLE to tilt that way, and you NEED to do it!

This is something that's lost on people playing via emulation. The timing of this set piece relies on the clock speed of the SNES being predictable, so musical bits like this end up being off.

Absolutely my favorite level in the game. Flying through space, seeing armada fleets all around, never an empty level. Going in those space ships, dodging those horrific defenses and blowing them up, and later seeing that gigantic ship coming straight towards you and the music switches to suspense, revealing to be the boss. Star Fox, I love you.

I personally didn't think Starfox 2 was that great either, but I do think it was ambitious; and this is NOT a "BUT IT'S 3D ON SUPER NINTENDO!!!!" type of deal either, I promise; having it be an RTS rather than level-by-level on-rails like the first game could have worked since Starfox was a new franchise, and it could have gone in any direction they wanted, so why not? All it needed was a little more work and it could have been good.
I have a particular love/hate for RTSs; they have to be *just* right, or else it won't grip me, and unfortunately that was Starfox 2 for me

The year was 1993. I had an Amiga 500, which was seriously reaching End Of Life in so far as a "gaming" computer went.
15 year old me is in a Dept. Store, in the toy section, I noticed that the Super Nintendo was demonstrating a new game for us to try.
Having nothing else really to do that day, I grabbed the control pad and played this "3D space game" that had cute animals as pilots.
I was enjoying it, and then something life changing happened.
I reached the Space Armada level.
And then this song started playing.
I won't bore you with tales of me spending countless afternoons playing this game until completion. Nor that I borrowed money of my best friend to buy a SNES of another friend, all thanks to this game.
Long story short. For many, Street Fighter 2 was their pathway to SNES...
    For me, it was StarFox/StarWing
(And then later I would play a Zelda like game called Secret Of Mana. But that isna whole other story 😉)

+turbohusque Star Fox 64 was the better game all together though. This game has some great music, but I prefer 64's soundtrack. When you look back at Star Fox SNES, it didn't age too well compared to Star Fox 64

Dang it... together with Star Fox Zero, the first game in the series has probably the best soundtrack of them all... I was very surprised when i played the game for the first time. Very good job.
Also this is waaaayy better than the soundtrack of Star Fox 64.

    Hot damn!
Just played this gem of a game for the first time thanks to the SNES game collection that was released for free to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers recently, and this level in particular had me on the edge of my seat as Fox and his team were finally on the offensive after defending Corneria and the nearby asteroid field from Andross’s invading forces.
I really wish Nintendo hadn’t axed Star Fox 2 back in the day since that game would’ve easily been the GOAT if this game was any indication.

Impressive, it appears all musics had a minor variation after half the time they play. Usually getting higher or reverbered. What a time to be a gamer the 90s was (you still feel the 80s end culture in StarFox somewhere) I'm glad to have seen it myself. Now its just remakes and games trying to replicate thing with no passion.
