    Bad Endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world/city/etc, something had to happen that, at best, creates a bitter sweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win after all your struggles. Sure, Game Overs CAN be scary too, but more often than not, all you'll get when you run out of lives is a simple "Game Over" message, possibly with the option to try again. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...

  • @MasterKnightDH
    @MasterKnightDH Před 7 lety +27

    I just realized how crafty it was on FE4's part about the way the good VS evil legacy stuff is handled. Diadora of course having the blood of both Narga and Loptous can have her offspring be the reincarnation of either, and Manfloy manipulates this to have the reincarnation of Loptous be installed as emperor under the premise that he's the reincarnation of Narga instead, turning Narga's own legacy against him. And oh look, he and Alvis accounted for Sigurd being a Spanner In The Works, had him deemed a traitor, everything.
    But even when accounted for, Sigurd was successful at being a SitW, simply by being heroic. By sending Serlis away to safety while fighting Grandbell's forces head-on prepared to die without clearing his name successfully, Sigurd ended up hiding Serlis's existence until it was too late for the Dark Sect to do anything about it. I don't know what Sigurd DID realize that could have helped if he got his name cleared successfully, but as Alvis saw fit to execute him and his people on the spot, Sigurd could not even be forced to provide information like Serlis's existence. Basically, the bad guys had shot themselves in the foot and Sigurd got the consolation that his legacy was celebrated and his son had successfully finished what he had started.

    The story of Jugdral really is a dark but also a wonderful written time in Fire Emblem. No other game could keep up to the feeling you have in those games. One thing I noticed while replaying Holy War lately was one line during the storytime before chapter 7. Obviously: Spoiler warning for those games. It says that all companions of Leif beside Finn, Nanna/Jeanne and himself have been killed by Freege. This technically makes the end of FE Thracia 776 even more tragic. Especially because it is one of the harder games. It really gives you "end of the world" vibes and even after you've been through all this crap most of the characters you loved in FE5 ended up being killed. And that's most likely not a case of "this wasn't planned" like it's the case in FE7. The prequel of FE6. (Missing characters like Lyn or Ninian etc. With Ninian being the most suitable canon wife of Elliwood. Some things are contradicting like the name of Elliwoods child which is always Roy even if your tactician isn't Roy and you get the ending where Elliwood wants to name his child like your tactician.) There are some optional events in Holy War who foreshadow things which are present in Thracia. Like the fake Shannan and such. Of course some things are still missing like the mentioning of Reinhardt for example. Probably it's because he died in Thracia but most likely because he didn't existed in FE4s story development. In the end it would be another bad ending which actually never happened/isn't a bad ending. But thinking about it remembers me how cruel those games can be. Especially Thracia. It even gives you a hard time after you thought you reached a happy end.

      In the original idea for the game, Azel had a much more expanded role. There were going to be three acts. The second gen story would have been the third act, while the second act would have shown what happens after the death of Sigurd's army. In this original version, Azel ended up leaving right before the massacre. As one of the sole survivors of Sigurd's army, he would try to raise a liberation army against his brother, but would be declared a traitor and fall out of favor (the people liked Alvis at this time.) Eventually, Azel would try to have a talk with Alvis in person, but would be intercepted by Manfroy and basically put in stasis. He would be discovered at the end of act 3 by Seliph and would be awoken, getting to live a somewhat-happy ending with his kids, who would likely be around his age. Sadly, this all got cut, and Azel lost his protagonist role and got much less screentime than he deserved.
      They also planned to put him in Thracia 776, canonizing his wife as Tailtiu, but that also got cut.

    You know I don't really hate Alvis, I respect and pity him. He had a good idea and for the first few years of the Grandbell empire he did good and was well liked by the people. Remember that Augustria had horrible nobles, except for Eltoshan. Verdane was very barbaric, and Grandbell was a bomb waiting to explode. Basically I respect him for the way he manipulated everyone, only to be manipulated himself, and it's this irony that makes me pity him. Alvis had Sigurd do the hard work and when vulnerable took him out, although the Dierdre part was a bigger dick move. Once Manloy got the Lopt Sect back in power that is when the Empire truly became evil. Alvis became nothing more than a mat that everyone stepped on. FE4 did a great job in making the villains evil and yet have purpose, not just evil for the hell of it. I'm pretty sure there was a reason for Bishop Galle for making the Loptian empire and not just because he was evil.

    • @MasterJP28
      @MasterJP28 Před 8 lety +3

      Sidar Erdem Sigurd, who is my favorite lord of all Fire Emblem, was gullible and trusting. I know Galle was possessed like Julius and Levin, but what I was saying is that there has to have been a reason for him to seek the power. I am assuming the Gran Empire, like all empires, got abusive. Galle probably suffered something similar to Alvis who wanted to help others, but got corrupted by Loptusu and created the Lopt Empire, which probably started out better for people during the early years prior to conducting sacrifices.

    • @Arkaine197
      @Arkaine197 Před 8 lety +8

      Well i don't think Alvis ever really wanted to help the Lopt Sect, but i'm pretty sure there's an interaction between him and Manfloy where Manfloy threatens to reveal that Alivs carries Lopt Blood, and because in Grandbell most people feared and hated anyone with Lopt blood, even though he weren't evil, he'd almost certainly have been stripped of his lordship and exiled if not outright executed, so a lot of his allying with the Lopt sect was largely out of fear. Manfloy may have manipulated his fears to get him to perform out-of-character evil acts but i think Alvis was largely a victim of the Grandbell culture that made him fear becoming a pariah just because of who he was, in that way Fire Emblem has always been great at creating multi-dimensional villains, well until Ashnard came along......

    • @Draconic
      @Draconic Před 7 lety +4

      because he regreted that. He bears the cursed and holy blood at the same time so he has always been in between good and bad. He has been a good guy until Manfloy used Diadora to blind him with love and jealosy. he realized that mistake he made and tried to redeem later.

    • @Arkaine197
      @Arkaine197 Před 7 lety

      Yeah the Granbell/Lopt empire always struck me as a combination of
      different factions, Julius and his acolytes were truly evil: him,
      Manfloy, Hilda, Dannan and Andre, but there were a faction that were
      trying to subtly push back against the evil and do some good work from
      within like freeing the children, i mean a lot of the enemies you have
      to kill don't seem particularly evil, Liza, Ishtore, Ishtar and Alvis do
      all seem to be a little wary/remorseful of what's going on, and while
      Bloom is technically evil i don't think he's malicious in the same way
      Julius and Hilda are, he seems just to be a weak cowardly man who got
      led down that road by Hilda.
      But that's always been one of the strength of the Fire Emblem Series, it did the same thing with Blazing Blade, set the black fang up as the enemy within which Nergal, Sonia and Ursula were the pure evil ones while Brendan Reed was just a tool who got misled by Sonia, and Lloyd and Linus were good people who it feels really shitty when you have to kill them. Making you actually give a shit about the people you have to kill is one of the reasons why the Fire Emblem series always feels like a real story.

Aideen is living, acording to a game dialogue in the Church of Tilnanogue as a abbess. Thus, the only one who actually survive to reach the Generation 2 is Aideen, because Levin is the god Holsety (you can actually understand his cold and harsh behavor toward the death of Fury and his own kids)

    Never forget that Thracia 776, the sequel to the first part of this game, actually made the Battle of Barhara worse because it's heavily implied that the Demon Lords you fight in the final battle of that game are implied to be characters from this game after they died. Some characters did survive, Fury/Erinys ends up queen of Silesia but she dies of heart ache because Lewyn DOES die at Barhara (his body gets possessed by Forsetti, confirmed by his convo with Fee/Phee if he marries Fury/Erinys), Lachesis survives but she goes looking for Nanna and ends up getting turned to stone, Brigid loses her mind and becomes Eyvel. Poor Tailtyu ends up being tortured to death trying to protect her daughter from brother's wife. It can legitimately be said that it was better for some of them to have died at the massacre than having survived. I think the only character who survives but doesn't pay a very harsh price is Aideen who ends up taking care of the orphaned second generation alongside Oifaye.

    so i should mention how ABSOLUTLY LUCKY manfroy and his cult were that Arvis had, i beieve before marrying DIerdre, had a kid with Aida (the person who invites Sigurd over to the BBQ). That kid being Saias who we see in fe5.
    This is because of the holy blood rules ofr inheritance, pretty much you can only directly pass down a major holy blood once, after that, it will be minor blood (however, as shown by what happens if you marry Holyn and Ayra, 2 minor bloods of the same lineage can make multiple major bloods). and Saias we can infer ended up inheriting the major Fjalar blood. which meant that the highest priority for Julius's inheritance would be major loptyr than the major fjalar.
    Literally if saias wasn't a thing, the loptyr sect would have probably lost their chance to revive loptyr, assuming Arvis and Dierdre never had a third kid. and also, Arvis's reign before Julius got loptyred iirc was actually pretty damn popular, and so Seliph would not have gotten the opportunity to rebel. in short, Arvis having an illegitimate kid with Aida is the reason fe4 gen 2 gets to happen
