Not sure when Robert was last measured but by the time he died he might have reached 9 ft in height. He was 8 ft 11.1 when last measured and since he was still growing there is a real chance of him reaching or surpassing 9 ft. The only way to know for sure was if he was measured after he died.

This guy came to my hometown, Manistee Michigan where he walked through the “forest festival” parade. That’s where he ended up getting the infection that ultimately took his life. The national forest festival still carries on to this day. There is a shoe store in town (Manistee) that still has one of his shoes on display

He would be, he had no signs of slowing down and is thought to have a disease that doesn’t stop him from growing. Some estimates have even said 13’ tall, which would be absolutely awful for him.
I stood next to the life size statue of him at the Ripley's museum in Branson. My head was at about his waist. My dad actually got to meet him.

I was worried to see him so close to the ledge on the Empire State building. With his center of gravity being so high, it's quite a risk. Plus he's not the most sure footed person (has some trouble with walking and being mobile in general.)

As a slightly taller than average person, whose family is all taller than average (im 5’9 and short, women tend to be 6’ and men 6’3-6’10) and mother to a 6’5 15yr old… i cant help but wonder at roberts mom clothing her little giant son. Sure tailored suits can be custom made, but what about underwear? That knitted sweater?
I turned into a sweatshop making extra small extra long jogger style pants for my kiddo since he wanted soft elastic waist pants and they dont make them for 26” waist and 36” inseam.

I doubt he was an anomaly. His dad was tall, mom tall and his siblings taller than the average man before hitting puberty. He was natural selection gone wrong. I’m only shocked a human could hit an inch lower than nine feet. I always thought we rounded off at seven feet and seven inches.
No, he definitely was an anomaly, his height was caused by hyperplasia of his pituitary gland. Surgeons weren't confident enough to operate on him so he never stopped growing and would have been well over 9 feet had he not died so early. You are right that we top out in the high 7 feet range when we exclude the pathological giants like Robert. The tallest man without a disorder was Angus MacAskill, who reached 7ft 9in, and was also incredibly strong.
@@JimmyBoosterCrate Richard Kiel too - he was "only" 7 ft 2, but he lived to 74 which is pretty damned good. Built like a tank too at almost 400 pound.

Many people act like Robert Wadlow is a testament to modern height. He is not.
The 1940's isn't modern, and he is not an example of healthy height. His family were not tall.
What people overlook is that his height has absolutely "NOTHING" to do with his genetics.
His height is due to a tumor, granted its better than a tumor in one of your testicles or ovaries but it still killed him.
This is not even something he was born with or could have passed on, he just hit the lottery at a young age,
and a particular sunbeam or lead paint chip caused one cell in his pituitary gland, to work improperly.
There are 100's of people in the past that were taller than 9 foot and they were healthy.
