- Before implementing this hack
- turning key to start made relay click once
- turning key did not engage starter motor
- screwdriver trick worked to engage starter
- battery connections were clean and tight
- engine ground to starter tested OK
- battery tested OK (screwdriver trick)
$$$ Don't replace any parts until you know
the parts you're replacing are actually broken $$$
This is a temporary "fix" for testing & emergencies.
I will be cleaning an adjusting the NSS asap.
This video is spot on, I tried it and 100% works.....
Thank you for the help, my jeep is a 98 Cherokee but same exact set up...
Thanks for the tip! I didn't want to cut and splice wires, and didn't have to with your advice. Up and running until I can fix it right with no wiring to repair later. Great video. Thanks again!
Stopped me from pulling my NSS for no reason. Thanks a million!
Thanks for the awesome video. Now I can get to work until Saturday and rip it apart and fix it right. It’s awesome when people share their knowledge. Thanks again.
Worked great on my 2000 sport 4.0. Thanks man.
Thanks very much for this. It's going to keep me going until the weekend, when I can take it apart and clean it properly. Again, thanks.
Used this trick today and got the Jeep home. Thanks.....
Thank you very much for this vid! Going to go do this to make my kids jeep run!
worked like a charm! jeeps back in the garage, gonna pull it apart tomorrow. thanks!!
What's being jumped there; D to ground or?
You put that jumper/paper clip on and then reconnected the harness to the Neutral Safety Switch?
"Find out which ones bypass the NSS". Hm, next question will be... What two wires do you look for to do that
what wires do i connect on a 4 pin to bypass it
HEY BUD,,,,,,,if you can get back to me that would be killer.
your video helped me big time, however i had to keep it rigged for a few weeks due to the high cost of the nss.
i already cleaned and adjusted my nss last year so i think its actually bad this time.
anyways, a day or mor after i rigged it like this i started having way too late shifting issues.
waits till 4500 rpm to shift to 3rd and so on.
check engine light is still on. transmission was serviced new fluid new filter.
do you agree that me leaving it rigged could be causing the crazy shifting issues? it dosnt do it all the time, off and on through the day.
i just bought the new nss on this pay check by the way. installing it tonight.
i read it can cause this shifting issue rigging it though so wanted your opinion.
thanks.
1999 Jeep Cherokee Limited was not starting, not even cranking. I did this bypass today, and I heard a different click when I turned the key, but then nothing, I think I blew a fuse. New battery, all grounds cleaned and checked. Starter connections cleaned and checked. Relays behind the battery swapped out to make sure they were OK.
THoughts?
I can't get my connector apart. What's the trick there. Tried prying with a screwdriver. Not really a place to get a good bite with it.
Is that ok...i have a paper clip but its color blue....it has to be aluminum..?
Does it work on a '93 ZJ 4.0 ? Same connector?
If your engine won't start you can put it in gear and use your starter motor to power your car
Lol good idea
Do you know which ones would work the reverse lights?
I also own a 97 Cherokee.
I figured it out, the middle two Up/Down connections are the reverse lights.
RonnieSixx what color are they?
Thanks' !
