Excellent video, might be having an issue with. 2001 maxima Had to put P ->N ->P. Then it started. Will keep eye on it . It might of gotten out of adjustment after 20 years. My son mostly drives the car now. And I think this issue has happened twice in 16 months. But also starter went and I replaced starter it for him. Part was free under warranty. I am sure it was the starter because I could hear it try to start but starter didn’t turn over . After a few taps on solenoid it started. Possible the cable got stretched or got miss alignment . Hopefully it isn’t the neutral safety switch sensor. But if it is part at rock auto is like $20-30, Autozone : 40-50, Dealer :80-90 Past 2-3 years electrical has been giving me issues Battery Both headlights bulbs not at same time Break light switch Blower motor & resistor Window motor Starter #4 coil Speed sensor Possibly TCC solenoid (p0744)

I'm like most, not having the funds to pay a mechanic even though my vehicle is still under warranty from Nissan. And the mechanics at CarMax, who say my service agreement is valid, refuse to fix it because their insane logic and deceptive loopholes require ME to take it to a dealership who automatically charges $200.00 + to diagnose the problem AFTER it has already been diagnosed. I bought a 92 Nissan pathfinder and I put it in neutral to transport it and I started it once but then it would not start again to save my life and I could not figure it out and even couldn’t get so called mechanics to diagnose and after a process of eliminating other causes why it wouldn’t turn over and it boiled down to the inhibitor switch being in the wrong position due to me manually setting the shifter into neutral and took it out of alignment and thought it was in gear. Hi, am a bit confuse for the last part when you said that you need adjust alignment at neutral shifter taking the reference hold unscrew the control box and do alignment with the strait Allen key to this will allow to put everything in place. 1-you tied everything back but the cable shifter is in park and the adjustment alignment in neutral 2- Does this stay in neutral with alignment and shifter stay at Parking? 3- When you need to change parking to neutral should works? this is confusin for me.

Some information that may save someone some money and trouble. The neutral safety switch will cause many more transmission problems than just the no start in park. My towncar would intermittently jump into a lower gear when driving but just for a second. It can also cause a vehicle to not go into certain gears. If you take a neutral safety switch apart, it has many contacts inside it and many wires going to it.

I have a 2014 Nissan Versa SL and I just had the motor mounts replaced and it fixed the jerking problem when I used to switch from P to Reverse or neutral. But after fixing it I have a click sound when I switch to D or R, the click sound happens when I stop at a stop light and the engine light is now back on. I know it’s not transmission because I can drive it as fast as it will go. Is it the neutral switch?
Thanks for sharing. I noticed moving the gear shifter only helps 25% in getting it started. If I rock the car back and forth in park, it starts 99% of the time. I will check to see if it is out of alignment. By chance, do you have the wiring diagram for a 1996 Nissan Altima so I can perform this test as well?

My switch looks very diff. I have a 99 chevy s10. I bought a new switch from partsgeek because sometimes when I push in the clutch pedal and turn the key nothing happens and somtimes it starts. Other times i have to either push it down a few times b4 it will start or sometimes I really have to give the pedal a good push. I have reason to believe my switch is failing asdon't think it's tripping everytime I push the pedal down so for $25 bux it's worth s shot.
Indeed, I received the new switch 2 days ago, and dropped it off at the mechanic who already has the truck for other reasons so when I pick it up it should have the new switch installed and I will know right away if it was the switch or not because I'm going to push the clutch pedal down normally and if it starts then it was the switch for sure because the old switch never trips if I push it lightly.

I have a 2013 Elantra and it started clicking. I replaced the battery and still the same problem. Day later no click and my battery is dead because my parking lights stay on without my key even in the ignition. No one seems to carry the inhibitor part either or have the starter in stock. We need to call Hyundai and tell them we are all having the same issue.
Those wires are used to detect when the vehicle is in Park and Neutral. Was the inhibitor switch in the park position when you tested for continuity? If the sensor is in the park position and you have no continuity, remove the shift cable from sensor and perform the test again. If you still don't have continuity it's a good indication the sensor is bad.

I'm getting p0705 error w my 2008 lancer. and I've already replaced the switch once. but it continues to periodically go into limp mode for no apparent reason. it's happened twice since I've replaced the switch. and I cannot figure out why. I keep getting the code p0705 and all the gears read out "r" for reverse, on my display. and when I shift into drive, it kind of jolts into gear. probably because its defaulting to 3rd gear, but still. I do not kno what to check for at this point. and am getting irritated. the one thing I think it might be is a short in the wires somewhere, no clue were. because the 2 times its happened, its been raining. but I hope u can help me and tell me what to check for.

+abraham balmir Try to find something that will fit through the small hole on the shift cable opening and you'll be able to align the cable and sensor.
I have a 2017 outlander 4 cylinder Mitsubishi it will go into every gear but driving I have to hold this is the first that it has no I did take the negative off cuz I had to redo the gas lid take the negative off and reset it and I don't know if that's got anything to do with it or not does anybody know what may be going on with this vehicle to 2017 outlander four cylinder

@@CarsNToys No not yet, I have a new inhibitor switch as well just in case cuz I was getting a code for that. Manual says to remove exhaust to get to it (cable and inhibitor), have to see if I can get to it without doing that cuz the exhaust is rusted together.
Save money by checking for wire damage before you spend a hundred.Sometime wires get fried.Someone could also take a razor and cut it slightly so it fails but still has continuity.
i changed the nuetral safety switch the code still comes on? p0705 transmission range sensor the guy at auto zone said the code is not saying the switch is bad but it getting low voltage so is the connector to the switch bad? i installed a back up camera previous to this i dont know if that has anything to do with it but it does tap in to the reverse light
Your back up camera will have no effect on the power going to the neutral safety switch. Likely a bad or starting to go wire providing power to the neutral safety switch or one sending power back to the computer depending o9n which gear you have it in.. Take a volt meter and check for power at the electrical connection to the switch with the key on.

hi i watched your video and it was helpful.. but i have a 2003 kia rio 5 door.rx-v.. this is the problem when it is cold it wont start all i get is a click click all lights are on fan, heat all power but wont turn over...when i park it on a hill it wont start... so i replaced the altenator.. starter, plugs and wires.. and crank shaft sensor.. it still doing the same thing... if i put it in neutral sometimes it will start... in park sometimes it will start.. some times i have to shift it back and forth from park to 2nd fast and hard then it will start.. soetimes all i have to do is let it warm up and it will start..i was told that maybe it's the neutral safety switch or maybe the park rang switch, or inter lock cable, or entire shift cable...i have spent so much money on this car it is sickening... i can't buy a new one this car has just about everything new on it now...i feel like im being shafted by men... can you help...no one has said anything about adjusting the transmission lever is this even possible on this car....this car is truly evil... any help will be appreciated.. thanks sandra
jamesgwilson1964 First thing that comes to mind is a weak battery. If the cold cranking amps on the battery isn't enough, you'll hear a clicking noise from the starter. (There isn't enough juice to turn the starter.) Next time it happens, try jumping the car. (If the clicking noise is coming from the starter, the neutral safety switch isn't the issue.) Also, is the check engine light on?

No crank. I have to conect a wire from the solenoid, place the key on ignition and then touch with the wire the positive lead of the battery so the car could start.

TheWiseZenShaman It's the most complex system in your car so it's always expensive. But again, if you're lucky it may be a simple fix such as a worn cable running from the gear lever to the tranny. Easiest way to find it is while the truck is off, crawl underneath the tranny and have someone move the gear lever from park to drive. You should see and hear clicking noises. Just follow the cable and make sure it's on tightly and that every gear engages.
This is a problem for me. My 93 318 Dakota won't crank when i turn the key but it will when i jump the starter solenoid with a screwdriver. I've replaced the starter, the ignition switch, all the fuses, adjusted the column rod, and everything thing i could think of. The nss is my last option really unless there could be something else i haven't thought of.
+CarsNToys Not by key. But it starts no matter what gear jumping the solenoid. I had to chase my truck through my neighbor's yard once because i started it in drive
Kim Richards It wouldn't be the neutral safety switch if the car is cranking. You have to check for spark and fuel. I'd start by checking for spark. Visit your local auto part store and grab a spark tester. They're around $15. If every cylinder is getting spark, then you'll have to check for fuel. Take a look at this video regarding fuel. It started but did not move forward or reverse. Gave it some gas and it started to go. Drove 5 miles and car did the same thing again . No forward movement after slowing down. pulled into side street by cruising and car died. Now it will not start. Would this be neutral safety switch ?

Delshawn Arnold It's on the transmission housing; toward the top. You can often find the sensor by looking for a wire that runs to the top of the transmission.

Check the cable that leads from the shifter to the transmission assembly. Maybe kinked somewhere.

I have a 2013 Elantra and it started clicking. I replaced the battery and still the same problem. Day later no click and my battery is dead because my parking lights stay on without my key even in the ignition. No one seems to carry the inhibitor part either or have the starter in stock. We need to call Hyundai and tell them we are all having the same issue.

Those wires are used to detect when the vehicle is in Park and Neutral. Was the inhibitor switch in the park position when you tested for continuity? If the sensor is in the park position and you have no continuity, remove the shift cable from sensor and perform the test again. If you still don't have continuity it's a good indication the sensor is bad.

could I call you or direct message you. to pick your brain for like 5-10 mins. I'm getting p0705 error w my 2008 lancer. and I've already replaced the switch once. but it continues to periodically go into limp mode for no apparent reason. it's happened twice since I've replaced the switch. and I cannot figure out why. I keep getting the code p0705 and all the gears read out "r" for reverse, on my display. and when I shift into drive, it kind of jolts into gear. probably because its defaulting to 3rd gear, but still. I do not kno what to check for at this point. and am getting irritated. the one thing I think it might be is a short in the wires somewhere, no clue were. because the 2 times its happened, its been raining. but I hope u can help me and tell me what to check for.
Thanks for the video. I have this intermittent problem with no crank when in Park position. If I shake or hold the gear stick towards the steering wheel , the engines cranks and do start. Sounds like it needs an adjustment. This vehicle was doing the exact same thing.

+abraham balmir Try to find something that will fit through the small hole on the shift cable opening and you'll be able to align the cable and sensor.
I have a 2017 outlander 4 cylinder Mitsubishi it will go into every gear but driving I have to hold this is the first that it has no I did take the negative off cuz I had to redo the gas lid take the negative off and reset it and I don't know if that's got anything to do with it or not does anybody know what may be going on with this vehicle to 2017 outlander four cylinder

How did you check the shifter? Have you tried placing in gear from underneath the vehicle?
@@CarsNToys No not yet, I have a new inhibitor switch as well just in case cuz I was getting a code for that. Manual says to remove exhaust to get to it (cable and inhibitor), have to see if I can get to it without doing that cuz the exhaust is rusted together.

Save money by checking for wire damage before you spend a hundred.Sometime wires get fried.Someone could also take a razor and cut it slightly so it fails but still has continuity.

No sounds like a tranny problem. The NSS Only controls your engine start and reverse lights.

i changed the nuetral safety switch the code still comes on? p0705 transmission range sensor the guy at auto zone said the code is not saying the switch is bad but it getting low voltage so is the connector to the switch bad? i installed a back up camera previous to this i dont know if that has anything to do with it but it does tap in to the reverse light
Your back up camera will have no effect on the power going to the neutral safety switch. Likely a bad or starting to go wire providing power to the neutral safety switch or one sending power back to the computer depending o9n which gear you have it in.. Take a volt meter and check for power at the electrical connection to the switch with the key on.
i have a 2010 nissan sentra and with a cvt transmission. the code came up as p0705 and they said it may be the transmission range switch. is that the same as the switch stated in the video and for my car can i get to it myself?
It looks very similar to the switch shown in this video. If you have trouble finding the sensor I may be able to dig up some diagrams.

It certainly could be. You can do this test with your truck as well. The readings may be a bit different but the theory is there.

hi i watched your video and it was helpful.. but i have a 2003 kia rio 5 door.rx-v.. this is the problem when it is cold it wont start all i get is a click click all lights are on fan, heat all power but wont turn over...when i park it on a hill it wont start... so i replaced the altenator.. starter, plugs and wires.. and crank shaft sensor.. it still doing the same thing... if i put it in neutral sometimes it will start... in park sometimes it will start.. some times i have to shift it back and forth from park to 2nd fast and hard then it will start.. soetimes all i have to do is let it warm up and it will start..i was told that maybe it's the neutral safety switch or maybe the park rang switch, or inter lock cable, or entire shift cable...i have spent so much money on this car it is sickening... i can't buy a new one this car has just about everything new on it now...i feel like im being shafted by men... can you help...no one has said anything about adjusting the transmission lever is this even possible on this car....this car is truly evil... any help will be appreciated..

jamesgwilson1964 First thing that comes to mind is a weak battery. If the cold cranking amps on the battery isn't enough, you'll hear a clicking noise from the starter. (There isn't enough juice to turn the starter.) Next time it happens, try jumping the car. (If the clicking noise is coming from the starter, the neutral safety switch isn't the issue.) Also, is the check engine light on?

It wouldn't be the safety switch if the vehicle is cranking or attempting to crank.
No crank. I have to conect a wire from the solenoid, place the key on ignition and then touch with the wire the positive lead of the battery so the car could start.
Gotcha. You have a wiring issue. There's a nice tool called power probe that can help find electrical breaks quickly.

TheWiseZenShaman It's the most complex system in your car so it's always expensive. But again, if you're lucky it may be a simple fix such as a worn cable running from the gear lever to the tranny. Easiest way to find it is while the truck is off, crawl underneath the tranny and have someone move the gear lever from park to drive. You should see and hear clicking noises. Just follow the cable and make sure it's on tightly and that every gear engages.
This is a problem for me. My 93 318 Dakota won't crank when i turn the key but it will when i jump the starter solenoid with a screwdriver. I've replaced the starter, the ignition switch, all the fuses, adjusted the column rod, and everything thing i could think of. The nss is my last option really unless there could be something else i haven't thought of.
David Hollingshead Does the vehicle start if you place the tranny in neutral? If so, then you can try adjusting the nss or just replace it.

Kim Richards It wouldn't be the neutral safety switch if the car is cranking. You have to check for spark and fuel. I'd start by checking for spark. Visit your local auto part store and grab a spark tester. They're around $15. If every cylinder is getting spark, then you'll have to check for fuel. Take a look at this video regarding fuel. I hope you can answer. My car nissan murano has the same error code p0705 . It was hard shifting sticking in gear before going . After driving to my in laws for thanksgiving . It started but did not move forward or reverse. Gave it some gas and it started to go. Drove 5 miles and car did the same thing again . No forward movement after slowing down. pulled into side street by cruising and car died. Now it will not start.

Delshawn Arnold It's on the transmission housing; toward the top. You can often find the sensor by looking for a wire that runs to the top of the transmission.
