He’s crossed 80, has won multiple Oscars and had a glorious career. Leave him the fk alone

Shut up tough guy
@@seansullivan7928 You can't handle the truth, tough guy. I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!!!
We all have our own opinions, I guess! (technically??)
I feel Jack Nicholson could totally pull off a father figure to Leonardo DiCaprio in any movie
Fact 👌
That’s bizarre you say that because I’ve always thought that Leonardo DiCaprio puts me in mind of a younger version of Jack..he’s probaly the closest thing to him anyhow..they remind me a lot of each other..I get the same feeling and vibes from them
@@MarceloVeronezzi it's not just that my man i find that Leonardo DiCaprio can be a little eccentric and crazy in some of his role which is relatable to Jack Nicholson acting personality but they also have the same color and buggy eyes, they comb to hair back and if you put their faces side-by-side it looks like you're watching looper 2

Get a life, weirdo
"Wtf happened to Jack Nicholson?"
"Jack was born in 1937."
There's your fucking answer.
He's F'ing tired man. Do something for 60 years and see how you feel. He doesn't need more money nor does he need to prove anything. He has done it ALL.
Clint Eastwood was born in 1930, has a new film out this year.
@@CornishCreamtea07 That's his prerogative. Jack has no obligations to anyone to keep working.
@@bigguy1164 That's a different answer, that's "Because he doesn't want to". Your answer was, he's too old.
@@CornishCreamtea07 How do you even know how to breathe? I never said he was too old, I pointed out his age so MAYBE there might be some correlation there.
“I warned him.”
Jack Nicholson once told a story about him doing some pills on the set of Batman 89 and he passed out as once he came to, he was in his car on the edge of a cliff. Perhaps he was telling Heath that it’s a dangerous role that can consume you if you’re not careful.
You’re half right. He warned him about taking the dangerous but effective prescription sleep drug AMBIEN (aka ZOLPIDEM). It causes severe amnesia in people who aren’t tolerant to hypnotics or Benzos... and yes jack took it and almost drove himself off a cliff. Anyway he warned the very sleep deprived actor Heath Ledger about taking Ambien. It turns out that Heath took Ambien and he forgot how many various types of pills he was taking (opioids, Benzos, etc.) and he took too many pills and overdosed. Correct me if I’m wrong though. But I’m pretty certain of this.
Reed Rosson that sounds about right. He definitely warned him about something but probably didn’t want to put his business out there like that. I thought it was solely about the role but I forgot about Jack’s drug use back in the day too.
both being method actors,do you think Heath L was so out of it,tired he didnt stop being the joker.he was Joker 24/7 J.N maybe warned him about becoming(playing) the Joker after what happen to him with the car &pills.just a thought.
@@VickStarkiller yessir, it is nice to think about it in that way, too, even knowing that's not exactly or entirely what Jack meant. With that said, method acting can be very dangerous or damaging to th health. See: Christian Bale... wow, his transformations are downright scary!
Actually not sure if true but there is a story that jack had to go to therapy because of the joker character
*Reality:* Jack doesn't wanna play anymore roles cause he wants other actors to get a shot at the oscars, he is being generous to the kids. The guy has most oscar nominations in the history. Legend.

True 😅

Jack and Heath had discussed Ambien, a sleeping aid Heath was taking at the time. Jack had warned him about the dangers of that drug, relating how, when he was taking Ambien, in his sleep, he had gotten in his car, drove around, and woke up in someone else's driveway. Considering where Jack lives, up in the Hollywood hills off Mulhulland Drive, a road that's a bit scary in the daytime when you're wide awake, the concept of driving that *in your sleep* should scare the crap out of any halfway sane individual.
I've been taking Ambien for years. It's a safe drug as long as you don't take it, then drive around town.
@@charliejohn1 The point is that Jack didn't take it and go driving, he took it, went to bed, then went driving around Mullhulland Drive IN HIS SLEEP.
Charlie Cobra a widely reported and litigated side effect of ambien is "sleep walking." Just google it, you'll find countless stories of people taking ambien, going to sleep, then getting up and driving with no recollection of it ever happening.

As much as I would love to see Jack just one more time, in one more iconic role, in one more great film I’m happy for him that he’s enjoying his retirement. After all the classics he gave us he deserves it. He’s 83 now and has earned this time to do whatever he wants.

I understand he's not going to do it, but one think I wish could have been would have been Jack in a Tarantino movie. That "over the top but disbelief suspended because it's just so good". Man that would have been something.

I really wish Jack could've made a cameo in Doctor Sleep
good point
In my mind he did, but yes it would've been freaky awesome in the final scene
@@arthurcorassini I wanted Jack to appear as a cameo that helps Danny. Save Danny from the ghosts and Rose The Hat as a means to atone and we can get a scene where Danny finally gets closure from his father and where Jack can make amends for hurting his family and Jack’s spirit can finally find peace. Jack Nicholson is one of my favorite actors.
He retired, after decades of kickass movies, getting a shitload of awards and beeing widely acknowledged as one of the top-tier actors out there.
Now,he´s spending his days, watching his beloved LA Lakers, chilling on his yacht and getting laid by chicks who are old enough to be his grand daughters.
I wouldn´t be surprised if he got lucky with JLAW at the Oscar party, tbh.
P.S. About the whole Joker thing: there´s an interview where Nicholson said that he absolutely loved the performance of Heath Ledger,(he praised the movie in general).he called him a "very talented young actor" and that he was really upset when he heard of his death, because he also had bad experience with prescription drugs.
Not a bad way to go right?
Exactly that's what I'm guessing the "I warned him" was about because they both had experiences with drugs.
If I remember the interview correctly,he said that these sleeping pills are really dangerous.People understimate them, because they're legal prescripted drugs by doctors and think these aren't as dangerous as illegal drugs and end up in coma or dead. He recalled that he took some similar sleeping medication with alcohol and completely passed out for 2 days, like falling in a coma.
Man Heath Ledger was the greatest Joker since Jack Nicholson's Joker and Joaquin Phoenix did just for playing Joker.
Young enough* you don't say old enough when talking about age differences like that...
Jack Nicholson is my favorite actor and I can't believe there's so many of his movies I haven't seen yet.
Me too
I miss some of his movies from the seventies. I need to go back and watch them.
He will always be my favourite actor of all time.😎
One of the top 6-7 greatest actors ever. I put only Brando, De Niro , day Lewis , Laurence Olivier and oldman above him
Same. I'm going to be trying to watch all his movies.
Regarding Jack's answer about Ledger's death, I'm pretty sure that he was referring about the risk of getting too deep into the characters psychology. When get into a role, you have the risk to leak certain aspects of the character into your real personality, you can get yourself lost into a character. The Joker is a character with such a heavy, distorted and sick mentallity, that Ledger just couldn't handle. Probably that role reinforced his anxiety, fears, traumatic events resulting on him acting like a joker on his own personal life. People tend to think that acting is only a matter of being extroverted and shameless, but one role after another can easily modify your psychology and personality blurring the line between the real you and the characters, leading to this kind of consequences and borderline actions. RIP Ledger, definitely a magestic acting.
On a ski lift in Aspen back in the 80's he told me, in that legendary voice, they dont pay me to act, they just pay me to be Jack Nicholson! Classic Jack!
He had a pretty good racket, didnt he?
I read that in his voice
This is how it went:
"What happened to him?"
"He died of overdose."
"That's awful...I warned them."
"I warned them" reffering to the sleeping pills that Heath took since Nicholson himself had also taken the same pills before and passed out waking up on a random driveway. He never knew Heath but he knew what the pills were capable of.
I remember
reading about this as well.
They never knew each other? Um maybe not as close friends but they did meet during Batman production. He warned him of the psychological toll this role would have on him
@@GamingForTheRecentlyDeceased who really knows but Jack i guess but both seem plausible to me
Im pretty sure its both. If I recall, it had somthing to do with the toll of late night shoots (common for this kind of film) and lack of sleep and the dangers of taking sleeping pills.
yes, it's obvious!!!
"I warned him" - meaning: "Don't take too much drug, kid".
I think you are overthinking it a littlebit..: D
It was a warning about Ambien.
I don't understand the reaction either. Nicholson might be crazy but he was being tactfully honest about a private acquaintanceship. Ledger got in touch to discuss craft(both being method actors), it makes sense to me that Jack would've noticed and commented on many facets. Like if Heath talked about substance use Jack might've mentioned risks. I think joblo forgot what method actors are, and how far that school can go down rabbit holes.
@@howHumam i didnt know about ledger getting in touch with jack about that role , didnt even know jack played the joker tbh but i´m not a real movie buff or something . but yeah if they talked about that role , method acting and drugs ... makes sence that he says i warned him . people get psychosis from illegal drugs (idk about legal drugs but i bet they can fuck your mind pretty hard too) , the joker is one of the craziest charakters i know and ledger reeeeally pulled of a great joker . imagine being in this character 12 hours or more every day , coming home and switch back to normal like a light switch , that doesnt allways works out like you want and you also only can do this to some extent without adapting behaviours because you´re used to them . i have no idea if he killed himself or it was just an accident but both scenarios would make sence to me because either he got stuck in the role and ended it , oooor he came home wasnt able to switch off the character and took drugs to be able to sleep in hope that it switched off the next day , and just ... underestimated the strength of whatever he took . and both scenarios could be things jack warned him about being in the business for so long
He was sacrificed. Theres too much symbolism before heath died. Esp in his last movie.

Jack was saying he warned Heath about DRUGS man.... DRUGS..... how did he die? DRUGS
• People have already mentioned the drugs, but another aspect of the warning might have been about the role itself. He has previously discussed that playing the Joker was mentally and emotionally taxing. Heath probably asked him for tips and Jack warned him that it would be a heavy role.
• It is weird when a big celebrity retires and you don't see them anymore. It's the same with Hackman and Connery.
He did it his way. A true American icon and talent.
"That's Jack!" just becomes funnier every time.
I don't think it matters how bad his last movie did. He'll always be remembered for his amazing performances and classic movies he stared in. He is truly Hollywood royalty.

Jack's probably the smartest dude of them all. He knew when to get out. Some actors stay way too long.
Sean Connery too, even if it took the embarrassment of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Jack Nicholson is a f**king LEGEND !!! Best Joker, and (almost) every movie he's in is an instant classic & certainly memorable. Every movie is instantly miles better with Jack in!
Joaquin Phenix is at least a tie.

Jack was definitely my favorite Joker.
@@REDMAN298 I don't think so. He is a good actor but not on the same level as Jack Nicholson. He played well in Gladiator but if it wasn't for the Joker, people wouldn't be mentioning him right now nor would most people know who he is. Definitely is not on the same level as a legendary actor like Jack Nicholson is. That's like comparing someone like Katharine Hepburn to someone like Jared Leto, who is a good actor but nowhere near the best. He has had great roles, Dallas Cowboys Club where his Oscar was definitely worth it but most of his movies, ehh. Not really a leading blockbuster type guy unfortunately.
@@misteroates9170 I was focusing on the Joker role. Joaquin did an amazing job. I`m definately a Jack fan.
Jack Nicholson’s response to the question about Heath Ledger’s death is likely referring to their shared method acting. There’s a reason why most method actors are referred to as difficult to work with especially when portraying darker characters- they often incorporate aspects of their character into their off stage lives. This combined with the drug scene that is sadly common in Hollywood and personal struggles make for a dangerous situation.
Maybe he warned him to “Never rub another man’s Rhubarb!”
The “I warned him” was in reference to the pills that ledger was taking, I recall reading an article about it when Jack was confronted by the media about the remark.

He warned him. Being a character actor absorbes every part of you. Sometimes some can’t let go of the character.
And that's what happened.
This is false. It's been said many times already, he was never "consumed" by the joker role. He loved that role, he took that role serious but in a good way. Thats why it's probably his best performance he ever gave. He had moved on from the joker and was already filming another film. So no, the joker role didn't absorbe him.
Stop glorifying what happened. Ledger either overdosed or was murdered by his Freemason superiors. He was not depressed or suicidal and acting is not some mystic experience where you turn into something else. He is said to have been skateboarding around the set and talking enthusiastically about his daughter.
I completely agree with the 2 people above, he wasn't consumed by the role of the Joker, this is all nonsense that people say to create some kind of mystery around the character. All his friends and family said he was cheerful, happy, and his usual professional self during filming. Admittedly he did complain about sleeping problems, but that started way before The Dark Knight, which is why he was self-medicating with benzos. He overdosed from benzos and opiates many months after he'd finished filming The Dark Knigth, and already moved on to filming The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Which is why half way through the film Heath's character changes appearance, and the role is played by Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell.
I feel like it would’ve been great to see Jack in that scene in Doctor Sleep. That would be a perfect send off, I think.
Don't know why JoBlo doesn't like Nicholson's answer about Ledger. He died of acute intoxication with no less than 6 different varieties of pills on-board. He was warned, and now he's mourned. RIP

When the reporter asked he replied I warrned him he also explains this him self
@Tokes 710 The interviews I saw of joaquin he had an absolute ball and said he would play the role again if the script was good and the opportunity arises..
Joaquin has definitely seen better days but he's had depression on and off since his brother died and he's looked like that before!.
I know he developed a disorder related to losing weight for the Joker and Christian bale was sick when he played the machinest but they tuck skinny to whole new level I think bale lived off 1 apple and 1 pack of crisps a day..
Hope he pulls himself out of it, seem like a nice guy and a great actor 😊
Jack is a talented actor. He entertains, no doubt. In 1982 I was hired to play a role in a rock opera written by an insanely talented duo of a man and his spouse. I played a despicable and ruthless L.A. gumshoe in the play and sang a song that was devoted to his prowess. Being at times a bit O.C.D. I rehearsed relentlessly for three weeks and the couple gave me a duster (London Fog overcoat) to support my performance. I lived in that coat and rehearsed all of the words until they were in my bones and I effectively grew into the role. We performed the opera segments (the musical parts) at the Troubador in L.A. one night and that was that. It took me weeks to shed the character that I had adopted. "I warned him" is obvious as Jack knew that Heath would immerse himself in the character. Jack is a monument to narcissism. And he is a damn good actor.
Whenever I hear about the extents some method actors go to for a role I am always reminded of an anecdote from Hoffman when he was doing “marathon man”. It was regarding Lawrence Olivier
Hoffman went full method. Not sleeping and running miles every day to get the right level of exhaustion and paranoia . Olivier witnessed this and one day on set pulled him aside and said “ Why don’t you try acting”?
@@peteyprimo7173 - absolutely.
This has nothing to do with the title, this should be called the history of Jack WTF
it's just the title of the video series. same with all the others. they are really informative
It should be called "Jack Nickson" because it's about Jack Nickson lol... (get a grip...)
"He was treating acting like it was jazz"
Sums up Jack pretty well
Is that a math joke? If so... hahaha?
Jack Nickolson went from low budget movies to stardom in just a few year's. A real life dream in itself.
More than 10 years of working in low budget movies is not few he earned his place to be a future star.
"I warmed him." means Jack had showed Heath that “Joker” is always a serious character to act as. Don’t take it too easy as a young man signing the contract to sale his soul with the evil spirits inside the box from the devil’s world. It needs great courage, a good heart, much discipline and a lot of willpower to pull back one’s soul afterwards. This quick answer is not bizarre. It’s a deep and straight reflection of Jack’s mature mind. I like both stars, and hope they will be remembered for good.
He was familiar with the sleeping pills and I think he warned him about it
You’re reading into it way too much it was most likely to do with the pills
Yep. Ambien to be exact.
No. He was warning him to be careful taking the dangerous prescription sleeping pill AMBIEN aka ZOLPIDEM. It causes severe amnesia. Heath was extremely sleep deprived. He ended up taking AMBIEN one morning then forgot how many pills he was taking (opioids and Benzos etc) and he overdosed sadly. All he wanted to do was go to sleep, and that he did. RIP.
Yes. It was Ambien. Aka ZOLPIDEM
He probably meant that he warned him about the chaotic state of mind you have to get into to play the Joker. And the effects that this has on someones psyche.
Jack came back, Heath, tragically, did not. That's my take.
That's an idiot's take living inside Hollywood fairy tales.
Nicholson already clarified he was talking about Ambien which he claims he warned Ledger about. There was nothing wrong with Ledger's mood while filming. He was skateboarding around, joking and showing pictures of his newborn daughter.
Movies are just make-believe. As is acting. Stop glamorizing it as if it were spirit-channeling. There is nothing mystical about it. The few examples whose heads can't take it, rarely die young. They just keep working and get a reputation for being weird and tiresome. Like Daniel Day-Lewis, for example.
One Flew - was a masterpiece. It is worth the time to find it. 45 yrs and I still remember Jack and the gang walking out.
That scene with Jack in the hot tub, and Bates stripping down to get in was heart stopping funny.
He has mastered the whole illusion of 'the dreamer living the dream or the dream living the dreamer' or whatever that famous saying is. Obviously, he doesn't need the money, or power, he is a force unto himself and will only take on a role that stretchs him, stimulates his mind and allows the creative juices to flow. Loved the video!
You answer your own title in the first 20 seconds. A legend that retired a decade ago and can be seen going to lakers games. He is enjoying retirement nuff sed
I bet he’ll make one last great movie.. I can feel it.
Terms of endearment was written by the same dude as lonesome dove, Larry McMurtry. Fantastic stuff.
Jack will always be a top actor. The acid tripping was what probably made him make a decision of staying awake at night and only sleeping during the day.
Actually, the first portrayal of The Joker on the big screen was _Batman: The Movie_ in 1966. Played again, by Romero.
Yeah, but Romero played it as camp not as a serious psychotic killer! Lets be real here!
Ferocious or theatrical, the character was The Joker.
Doesn't count. That movie was basically a theatrical version of the TV show
@@Alienkiwi730 ...Making it "the first time ever on the big screen" right?
Negan It doesn’t matter that it was based on a TV Show. It’s a movie, it played in cinemas, therefore it’s the first time seeing The Joker on the big screen
They did manage to get a quick phone interview with him yesterday after the passing of Kobe Bryant,I was shocked. He keeps very much to himself and his close circle these days...
He warned Heath Ledger that the character invites an actor to release that part of him that he has to keep under control.
@the facts This may surprise you but actors on a shoot do not always tell the truth when interviewed about a picture they are promoting. I personally know two actors who were in that movie who both said he stayed in character throughout the shoot. Also, more to the point, this has nothing to do with what Jack told him which is a matter of record.
Sort of. He was trying to warn a very sleep deprived Heath ledger about Ambien. It causes severe amnesia. Heath one morning took too many Ambien then took too many painkillers and what not and it put him to sleep for good. RIP
Jack's acting in that scene in 'Something's gotta give' was GENIUS😂😂🤣🤣!!
Some guys don't age well but Jack is in the class of his own. There is something about him. He his crazy, talented & living legend ! I'm sorry about the last movie. Now he can just enjoy life the fullest 💗 Thanks
This thing called getting older it’s insane Ik
beats the alternative.
And many lines in movies are his lines.
He had a habit of rewriting the script as he went along.
Despite Jack’s powerful displays of anger and other portrayals of the human condition he always seemed to enjoy himself playing the roles he did displayed as his little smirks. I just hope he’s happy and appreciate his work
The greatest actor and range who really changed so much. This man created so much.
The thing is he hasn't actually retired, I don't think that he'd use that word...but he specifically said he's being more selective and waiting for the right script to come along.
My favorite line from any movie ever:
"Never rub another man's rhubarb"
Thanks for that one Jackie boi👌
Beautifully done, T. James Johnson.
Yeah, the "Chinatown" sequel "The Two Jakes" is actually a pretty good film, although obviously it's not a masterpiece like the original. The one thing about this movie is that it is actually a sequel to the first one in that it's not a remake disguised as something else nor is it a film using the same characters but having nothing to do with the plot of "Chinatown." To truly understand where it's coming from, you do need to watch Polanski's film first (IMHO.
you forgot to mention his two pre-easy rider existentialist westerns : the shooting and ride in the whirlwind.
This channel is my alpha guy new guilty pleasure. The narration dude is an ultra cool dude. Ya got me, my man.
A Jack Nicholson encounter. My dad was an escort for foreign dignitaries when in some big name hotel in NYC he took his dignitaries into a meeting room Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty were at the same place same time. Jack asked my dad what he did and why he was at the hotel, then some more folks come in and Jack Nicholson introduces everyone to the folks around the table including my dad and not missing a beat.
That impressed my dad.
I'm ok that jack is done with movies. He is 92 and let's leave him alone Give him his space.
Lol he is in his 80's
@@oshaqlaghari9591 82 shit. None the less he is fucking old give him his space.
Lol, try 82.
@@dennisjr77 I already said 82
He is still verry verry young. I can't even think of a possibility, I would retire so early from a practical reasons in my life in young age of 82 or 92 as many people I know.
Anyone who laughed at when mars attacks has seen it more than one time
He said in an interview that he had troubles memorizing texts/lines, so it was time for him to stop. I prefer to keep amazing memories of gim rather than having one last bad one.
Jack warned Ledger that the role of the Joker would take a toll on his mental health.
