    You just can’t beat the sound of an AEC in full song, especially an ex-East Kent Regent V. I grew up with these superb vehicles when I lived near Herne Bay.

    I used to own 767B, brought back memories. Everything very low geared. Start putting the lock on before the corner. Max. speed, approx. 37 mph, unless you were under load it would be on the governer.

    It's very nice that AEC made buses with a regular manual gear change as something different from the usual Wilson gearbox I grew up with.

    These sounds made bus travel of the time truly memorable - as far removed from today's point and squirt 'bricks'with their overstressed little engines as it's possible to get! I used to be in a world of my own as a kid travelling on AEC's. Do you happen to know if this has the D166 gearbox, I'm fascinated to know why there's subtle variations in the musicality of various AEC gearboxes?

    • @JakeSCOC
      @JakeSCOC  Před 2 lety

      Hi Robert. I'm glad it evoked good memories for you. Off hand I'm afraid I don't know what type of gearbox it is other than a four speed manual.

    Just watched this for a bit of nostalgia! I was brought up in Deal and these Regents were the background to my childhood. School bus to Dover and the town services as well as to Canterbury. Brilliant! Was this filmed around Sandwich I was trying to work it out?

    • @JakeSCOC
      @JakeSCOC  Před 3 lety

      Thanks Michael. AFN - like all the East Kent AEC Regents is a 4 speed manual. Allegedly it's a synchro but that only tends to work on the up changes hence the double de-clutching on the downward changes.
