  • In the video I review the 2021 Harley Davidson Sporster 1200 Iron. This bike is a no frills bulletproof bike. While it's true that it is a great bike for entry level riders, this is still a lot of fun for experienced riders.

    I've been a mechanic most of my life and I love simplicity. That's why I love the Sportsters. I've owned three big twins and I'm 67 yrs old. I would still love to own a Sportster, for me an 883 would be fine, I don't plan to race anyone. LONG LIVE THE SPORTSTER!

    I'm 61 years old ridden since I was 10 years old owned scores of motorcycles. Crotch rockets, sport bikes, vintage Japanese, side car Ural, Harley trike, multiple big twins, and I love my iron 1200 the best. I don't take long trips any more just mostly commuting to work and running errands. The Sportster is the perfect light weight bike for my old knees and mellowed out riding style. Thank God that Harley has made thousands of these so even when they phase them out the used market will have plenty of supply for my life time. My Dad had a 76 1000 sporty and my 2018 has similar tank graphics love it. IMHO the Sportster is the best looking Harley hands down and a sweet around town ride.

    Well, it’s been a little while and we know that the 883 has also survived for another year at least. I totally get going with the 1200 vs the 883 in the sportster line because of the extra little boost in power you get but honestly when I bought my iron 883 last year (my first bike) it was one of the best looking bikes on the floor. That was a huge, huge, part of the appeal of the bike. It looks freaking awesome! The iron 1200s never even caught my eye. I do not like the look of the bike. It looks ok but it doesn’t look anything like that 883 which is dripping with coolness. I just don’t like the tank graphics at all or the mini apes or the cafe fairing. I know you can change most of that but I just didn’t even consider it when I bought my bike. The roadster is the sporty I should have got!! Of course it is now discontinued 😢

    • @throttleblip9854
      @throttleblip9854  Před 3 lety +1

      Indeed! I think Timms just got one so I'll do a video soon. I agree the 883 has a very different and good look. I do like the 1200 in the "48" model and the "72" before it went away. I love the Roadster. There are still a few unsold 2020's around. Timms actually has one. Hopefully it's still there when I get done with all the 21 videos so I can review it.

      @Deathlynumb Před 3 lety +1

      I got the 2021 iron 1200 in the denim matte black color and had the dealer swap out the tank and fenders with the 883 tanks and fenders in the deadwood green color. The matte black colors with the gloss dark green makes the bike unique and jaw dropping. I for one was looking for a bike with the cafe fairing so if I had got the 883 I would’ve put one on. The bars felt more natural on the 883 but there more comfy with the mini apes.

    • @randallzook5570
      @randallzook5570 Před 2 lety +1

      I agree with you the iron 883 is in my opinion the coolest looking Harley in production. However I opted for the 1200 because of the added power and blacked out look. The first thing that I did was lose that stupid looking mini fairing hated it. Also added the Vance & Hines short shot exhaust and an FP3 tuner. The tank graphics appealed to me because my Dad had a 76 1000 sporty with similar tank markings. I bought it used and someone put the forward controls on it not a fan. Found a set of mids on eBay so will be swapping those out going back to the stock setup. I feel like I have more low speed control and balance with the mid controls I'm only 5'-9" so don't need to stretch out. Was sad to see the roadster go loved that bike as well.

    I recently bought a 2020 Iron 1200 in silver. Upgraded from a Street 750. Only had the 750 for few months and wanted that extra power like you mentioned. I contemplated the Iron 1200 or get a soft tail. I'm 5'5 and mid controls was the determining factor lol love my sportser

    what about: 1. rear shocks-bottom out (i am 230 lbs)? 2. are brakes adequate or after market needed 3. is seat bearable or typical 'wood' like feel 4. would drag bars work...thanks!!

    • @throttleblip9854
      @throttleblip9854  Před 3 lety +1

      You can adjust the rear but honestly at that weight I'd consider a softail. The reason I say that is because to really get a good ride you'd need to put a set of rear shocks on it and change the seat, by that time you're close to say a softail standard which is a bigger frame, better suspension, and a much bigger motor but just as easy to ride.

    I miss the 1200c. Would like to find a 2019 used. I never cared for the peanut tanks, to me the teardrop on the C looks way better and is more practical (holds a ton of gas.) May have to track one down one of these days. This bike is sharp also, but these irons seem to be for shorter guys. The lack of rear suspension travel hurts touring capability in my book. Also those bars look goofy. AMF graphics are awesome.
