The more she talked; the deeper the hole she dug for herself. The detectives have enormous restraint. I think she just love's to hear herself talk
Not only the deeper the hole, but the more she talked, the more impudent she got.
I think they should have realized that they were never going to "break" her. It is decades later and she is still talking in determined circles of illogic. She is a cold stone.
True, but the more they let her blabber, the deeper a hole she digs herself into.

I don't think they were actually trying to break her. I think they were just letting her hang herself.
These recordings are very valuable, because we can see the person Diane really is when she’s not getting her way and isn’t able to manipulate the people around her, the mask of her being a poor, innocent woman who is an amazing mother falls away completely.
Remind me, did she EVER bother putting that mask on? I honestly can't think of a time she made a concerted effort to affect a good mommy role.
She was too busy attacking her enemies, which evidently was everyone EXCEPT the stranger who shot her kids
Oh I would say she did, just not very well. And she certainly has a narcissistic victim complex to this day, but that’s not surprising in the least bit.

Can’t wait! This case has always intrigued me. I would love to hear Detective Welsch update on his prospective of this case 40 years after this tape. I know it will never happen, but I would also like to hear from Knick, Charleen, Diane’s siblings and especially her children.

Her style of speaking in such a superior manner, emphatically telling such idiotic, unbelievable, ever-changing stories with conviction, is so baffling to our normal human sensibilities. So many murdering, narcissistic psychopaths are cut from this same cloth; it's eerie. It literally makes me laugh and furious at once, as she bobs and weaves and invents. She shows up so confident that sparring with anyone is a slam-dunk for her, due to her superior intelligence. So it's laughable how actually just plain dumb she is. And sounds. Her behavior and communication style is just like Anthony Todt. Michael Peterson (The Staircase). Nancy Brophy. Ted Bundy. Casey Anthony. Amber Heard. Letecia Stoudt. As if they're coldly reading from a script that no one would ever believe. Not any real human emotions and reactions. Just fake fake fake.

Exactly.. she’s such a narcissistic sociopath always has and always will be she’ll never be outside prison again until they haul her dead ass out and dispose of her pathetic remains and I’d almost bet she’ll still be talking or at least her mouth still moving hrs after death …she NEVER shuts tf up lol listening to these tapes again thirty yrs later are still shocking.. here’s a mom who swears a stranger shot her kids killing one and she’s been giddy and laughing since first interview in hospital hrs after the incident.. any normal mother would be devastated learning that one of her children just died. Diane Downs is a POS that is a waste of space and doesn’t deserve to live Nick just one of ten married men she was fkng even said she’s obsessed with herself and thinks she’s irresistible to men and even in this interview she’s doing this back and forth tit for tat with the detectives in a flirty argumentative way and thinks she’s smarter than anyone else she’s extremely narcissistic and after the court ordered psychiatrist found her to be above intelligence level as compared to most of the population and after hearing that her head swelled so big it almost exploded lol problem is however she failed to realize ppl such as her that are narcissistic sociopaths that ring in the higher percentile although intelligent they’re also ignorant and aren’t able to be empathetic. She’s absolutely loving these police interviews she’s being flirty and she creates these bizarre scenarios and theories that just sound ridiculously stupid I mean honestly after your children being shot and one killed what mother would say to detectives that are trying to find this sick individual that hey I know exactly who did this but because I hate you guys I’m not telling you shit?? Seriously now. She’s pathetic and her time expired long ago. She’s a waste

You speak the truth. I think why some of us are so fascinated is, like you say, while her stories and attitude are *SO* bizarre, she doesn't have the slightest instinct telling her that they are. Remarkably strange!
Have you heard this channel's latest upload? It's the latest knickerbocker phone call, the fourth. At times, Knick almost sounds like you, "DIANE, don't you _realizzzze,_ don't you GET it!?" He's incredulous at her infantile attitude.

Did the police check her hands/arms for powder burns from the gun????? You never hear of that at all. I mean, that would prove it 100% yet I have NEVER EVER heard they found powder burns on her hands/arms. I am no saying she is innocent but that would prove it. ALso years ago on our small private road by the lake where I grew up a man attacked me- which just didn't happen where I grew up NEVER, it was very safe there -- I don't want to go into it here in detail, but I was in the hospital EIGHT days and I am a total germ freak-I was freaking out because I hate hospitals. After a few days there, all of a sudden eveyrthing changed: the cops/investigators were saying there alf- I mean my head on the sidee was so battered it perforated my ear drum, blood all over the place debris in mytemple area, it was horrid I had double vision for over a week, I was so nauseuous I couldn't move my eyes at all I had to keep them straight ahead at all times, I couldn't lay down I had to sleep sitting up or else I would get SO dizzy and throw up- I couldn't understand WHY they were insinuating this. This case made me think of that incident with me because maybe there WAS a man that stopped her. I man stopped me asking about a lost kitten of which I SAW the flyers on that road so I thought it was a man that lived in one of the side roads there. When DD said that about a man approached her car, maybe she thought he needed some assistance or something. She also inferred they weren't investigaing this person that she said apporached her car or something to that affect, SAME with me, they told me after a couple of months to, in essence, leave them alone, stop asking about the investiagion and to this day 25 years later no one was charged even though I picked the man out of 66 photos in three different photos, and they were shocked I was able to do that --because he looked different in each of the three photos; (he WAS seen in that road talking to home owners who were friends of his a few weeks before I think it said), . SO that made me think about what she is saying here.
I just finish Ann Rule “Small Sacrifices”, oh my! I never thought a person could be like this woman, never!

Craziness. I always thought maybe the film exaggerated. They are not shown correctly. But if you listen to it, they nailed it pretty well, almost taking it word for word. Anyone who hears this interrogation can no longer believe that she is innocent
You really have some great rare content. One piece of media I have always hoped to see in full is the crime re-enactment the police did with Diane and the car. I've seen short clips on news programs, but they're mostly silent except for the famous "ow, I hit my arm!" comment. Hope someday the whole video is unearthed.

No accountability...Ahe admitted she lied about her fathet molesting her...shes looking for excuses...and used her father as a scapegoat! However, I know a couple of people that have been molested as a child and they even despise Diane Downs and says shes crazy, one of them watched the movie with me and some interviews and even said.."Molestation is NEVER an excuse to do bad, because you still know right from wrong" ....

I'm guessing she threw it away in the hospital bathroom or in the dumpster outside behind the hospital. She knew they'd be looking for it in the river or near the site of the shooting. I doubt they'd look in the hospital dumpster.
