That giggly voice...trying to talk circles around the detectives...she's enjoying every minute of this.
“…when I finished being pregnant..”
What an odd thing to say.
That’s because she loved being pregnant but hated being a mom.. I actually know someone like that, thank God she didn’t kill her kids but she sucked at being a mom but shined bright every time she was pregnant
She loves the attention of pregnancy. Once the baby came she wanted none of it.
Back then, we really didn’t know all that much about narcissism, but boy she is a classic case. The world revolves around her and everyone else is her appliance.
They knew about narcissism… she was diagnosed back then with multiple personality disorders. We just didn’t use “narcissist” as a buzzword back then the way everyone does today.
@@leeprimeau7912we knew the word but we didn’t really see it like we do today. Now we all know people like this. We can usually pick up on it fairly quickly. That has Come from seeing case after case of people like her. With the glib talk and superficial charm. Thank god we do. Save us a lot of trouble. Also. It was hard to believe a mom would do this. Now we see it Far too often
@@NotIfWhen I am 65 years old and I’ve known exactly what narcissism is for decades… maybe because I’ve spent many years working in the legal/court system and have been a true crime fan since I was a teenager, I don’t know. It just seems like every time I turn around these days, someone is on social media using the word “narcissist” and it gets old… it’s greatly overused. Yes, Diane Downs is a narcissist but she was diagnosed as one (among other things) all of those years ago so it isn’t as if we knew the word but didn’t know much about it in the 80s.
@@leeprimeau7912 I am 51 so I was pretty young when this happened. It seemed so shocking to me back then. These days it happens all the time. Parents killing their kids. It’s so sad. And YES the word is thrown around far too much… but Diane truly is the textbook definition. I think people didn’t recognize like we do today. They might think she was nice or charming. These days most people would catch on really quick. Nothing was her fault. Nothing. Dead giveaway right there.
We knew it was her the more she talked. 40 years later we still know. Thank you for the audio, never heard before
“We” who? You were a detective? 😂
@TheElextrah me and the people I knew then 😄 looking for something? Nothing here for ya, too bad😝

@@TheElektra”WE” refers to the public, obviously.

Thank you for this. I'm grateful for this channel, there's audio and interviews I was not aware of, this woman is exactly where she belongs. Narcissistic, selfish, sadistic, soulless. RIP Cheryl, and I hope Christie and Danny are happy and doing well.
I bought this book as a tween and it became my foray into true crime. Diane Downs has always stayed with me as a special kind of maniac. We have seen many more, but the cold, calculated way she planned the shooting and bought that stupid unicorn with the date commemorating their "special" day, since it was the last happy day, which those kids had few to none in life. It tells something too when the prosecutor gets custody of the remaining two kids, and their father didn't object.
The detectives ears must be bleeding listening to Diane’s monologue. Poor sods. At least they get paid for it. Not enough, they need danger money for their ears and brains. This woman is too awful for words.
Thank you! Your channel is one of my favorites and you're the best DD channel out there! Actually, I think you are the only channel dedicated to DD and we are so lucky that you are sharing this practically impossible to find content with us- thanks again!

Thank you for this. She deserves to be remembered
Rest in peace, Angel.
Red roses for you, ⚘️🌹⚘️🌹⚘️ sweetheart.
Rest in peace 🙏 🌹
I was born in 81 in Vancouver WA. My grandma had stacks of crime books and this one, maybe because I was child myself infatuated me. The crime scene photos in the book and the look on her face in the photo with her ark always creeped me out. For years I’ve searched for more info and until your Chanel nothing much. I always wished Danny and Christie would do just 1 interview..but there is something to be said about the fact that they never did and just wanted to move on. What brave kids and such an amazing DA
I believe her daughter that was born in prison has given an interview.
If I find it I will come back with a link.
@ajordan1976 she has but this didn't really concern her. She tried contacting Diane, but that was a disaster. She finally got herself together and has nothing to do with her mom. I think the 2 surviving children not doing interviews says a lot about how they moved on and how they were raised. I pray they both have amazing lives.
Im SO glad the kids can't be bothered. It drives Diane more insane each year that they refuse to speak out.
Whenever dd case watchers say they wish they could hear from the survivors, I wince. I know they mean no harm, but it would be terrible if the kids felt any pressure, and like you say, it means a lot that they've entirely moved on.
I’ve always said I wished they’d do an interview too.. I’ve followed this case since I was a kid.. my mom was a true fan BUT she was also just like DD 😒 my mother even sounds like her

A therapist recently made a brilliant comment on one of the parole tapes. She was referencing Diane's repeated wailing, "They have the RIGHT to say how much they hate me, wa haa, boo hoo."
The commenter said, 'Diane knows how much damage her presence does. She wants to feel that power again.' That's why she's so fixated on the kids being there, her narcissism is that toxic.
(P.s. I had a narcissistic mom, too, cheers!)
Listened to her most recent parole hearing and wow , she hasnt changed one bit
I listened to it and I can't believe by 2020 she was still denying that she shot them and was still hanging onto that story that was just impossible from 1983! You'd think if she's still denying it she'd at least have come up with a better story with all that time she's had on her hands the last 40 years! She's just insane to think anyone on that parole board was buying her stupid original story! They need to never grant her parole even if she says she did it! I think she could possibly try to get to the kids and finish the job!
She hasn't changed, it's just verbal vomit.
@@christiancisco7444 I agree she'd absolutely go after her kids. But Christian, she has enhanced her original story: yes, it's still a stranger, but now the king of Romania, Michael somebody, and the fbi are involved.
The same group was behind the killing of her uncle, grandfather and childhood dog. So NOW it makes perfect sense, don't you see? I can't understand why no one believes her.
Nope
@@christiancisco7444Plot twist: Her story hasn’t changed because she’s telling the truth. Wouldn’t that be crazy?
Thank you for sharing all this. This tragedy should never be forgotten and it is absolutely sickening and despising to listen to her 40 years later still deny that she didn’t do it. The DA and his wife are absolutely commendable for taking in the two surviving children and giving them a good loving home.
10:36 She makes fathers sound as disposable as children.
She said in another interview, "children don't need fathers".
She detaches herself from the crime. Speaks about her children like they are pets
Gruesome details she includes. Very psychopathic. Today we have more violent and abusive killer parents.
She knows so much about everybody but herself.
Ain't that the truth. In her latest phone call with Knick, she says when this is all over, she's getting tf out of Oregon because "the people here care more about themself than other people."
;)))
Why would he need a car if he was in a car?
You are right. How did I never think of this one? Thank you
you're the best truly, thanks so much!
Thanks so much for posting this, have always wanted to hear it. Just total nonsense from her, it’s unreal.
Thank you for this video! I missed your content.
The bizarre salted logical pretzels she points at her lover's wife! And her ex! And even her ex's (Steve Downs) best friend Greg, seriously? Wtf. A guy's gonna take out 3 babies because he wants to hang out more with his bro friend ?? Diane!
IF she really did not do it,it would drive a person insane, who did it?? In my opinion,I don't think she did it. I think it was a hired hit. The man who confessed. She is interesting. I think she's more about the men,not really a killer just crazy but smart.
It's unbelievable she had a lawyer at this point! Lol how he must have hated her.
Everyone gets a lawyer.
Regardless
@@Nscladydarkside6369
Of course. What I meant was, how he must have hated her for ignoring his counsel and making his job so much harder by talking to the cops WITHOUT him there.
It was an insane thing to do.

Forgot to tag you in my reply... ⬆️. 🔼 🔺️
She really thinks she can talk her way out of murder
She thinks rather highly of herself.
Narcissistic personality.
She’s always been such a psychopath!!
"All I know is... I didn't do it."
Can't wait for part 2
She giggles so inappropriately
A serial killer that got caught on her first gig ... Had she not been caught no telling how many people she would have bagged ...
It astounds me that her IQ is just below genius, yet she changes her story (several times more), to include the nonexistent gunman has time to threaten her "don't tell anyone I've shot your kids" (or words to that effect!). Well Diane I've a quick question for you. When did this threat get spoken, was it before or after you "faked throwing" the keys⁉️. Because you acted out for police, on record the whole scenario, going as far to say "I jumped in my car, peeled away from there (whilst he was down the bank) As the car accelerated the drivers door shut itself." Why did he not fire at you besides the accidental shot to your arm, why would he not fire at you with the same energy as that of the children, instead he chose to let you drive away with no more than a wounded forearm and a verbal threat⁉️🤔 Strange how a high number of convicted murderers have such high IQ'S yet ZERO common sense‼️😉🙄👍🏻
Lol, she claims she gets threatened before she's shot, but you can see her turning that over in her mind. Oops, so were we just standing around having a discussion, AFTER my kids are repeatedly shot, point blank?
Hm,, that doesn't sound too good. I better say my memory is fuzzy. But in later media appearances, including Oprah, she claims it all happened fast at once, and drops the whole threatening part. I guess she's hoping people like us aren't keeping track. ;)))
Just shows that IQ & emotional intelligence are two very different things
@@eskylent7962
Yep! At trial, the psychologist said she had great intelligence "without a conscience to guide it."
Diane is practically a pure laboratory experiment, demonstrating exactly what that would look like.
Please say there’s another tape!!
There's two more. I'm going to try to get them Part 2 and 3 up tomorrow.

started to listen to the audio. Some things I like is that at least Diana when she saw the photos didn't target an innocent man. Others have targeted innocent people and made their life miserable, like Casey Anthony with the nanny zhanny (Zenaida Gonzalez?) So Diane wins some points in this.
Even worse is what Casey did to her father. So surprised the prosecution didn't do more to discredit the accusations. Also, sounds like Diane tries to imply several people might be responsible, including her lover's wife.
@@sunlotus8 you are right. thanks for this input
Like the black widow, blaming her daughter
She gets no points LOLZ wTf is this comment. Dear god seriously I have watched so many Diane downs video and I have NEVER seen one comment that’s defends her. Something is wrong with you.
@@sunlotus8 I've heard Diane did eventually accuse her father of sexual abuse...but later recanted her accusation.
She couldn’t say one nice thing about Cheryl?
She rolled her eyes in that one interview where she said, “I’ll never see Cheryl on Earth again.” She really disliked Cheryl from the moment she was born.
Well, why bother (from Diane's pov). She's not alive and therefore not manipulable any more.
@@cateyes22Qsadly she even said Cheryl was ugly 😕 notice in their family photos Cheryl is standing far from Diane
I can’t understand how a mother could dislike her child
I’d give anything to have even one child, let alone 3
No offense but the transcript is terrible. I would be more than glad to transcribe a future tape for free because this is an important case to me.
crazy....articulate but crazy....
This is the hardball interview?
Way the hack there thinking about letting her out, period , she's crazy and she's definitely not saybol,
Why does she speak in 3rd person?
13:31 to minute 14:26 😶😐
i doubt he ever love Diane because he seemed like he wasn't that into her and regrets getting involved with Diane.
I don't defend him neither because he sounded like an asshole the only victim was his wife but knick did right about telling police about Diane and cooperate with them.
Everything is everyone else’s fault. Poor Diane.

First of all, she did it and where she belongs, but I don't think she was given a fair trial either. Destroyed files, they found the ruger they claimed diane had, it was not a match. She had no gun shot or metal tracing on her, they said she washed her hands but I don't think that is something you can just wash off. Oh she did it or had it done but I don't think she pulled the trigger. I think she hired someone to do it and cheryl was manipulated into saying she saw something she didn't see. I can't blame the prosecution for wanting her behind bars even if that meant cutting corners. Too many instances of conflicting stories and evidence not matching her story says she did it. But enough for a conviction? nope. I hope she is never paroled but if someone looked at the evidence, its possible the case could be reopened
What are you talking about, Jenn? Christy Downs saw Diane shoot her and her siblings. The case is closed.
They thought they found the gun. Wrong gun, so what? She did have a gun, she took it from her husband. Christie was terrified of her mother. Who knows what threats her mother made when she got hold of her. You should read the book by Anne Rule. It took a long time before Christie could say what happened. Also gunpowder is easy to wash off. And finally she said she didn't know how the towel came to be neatly wrapped around her arm. She is a waste of human life. Also she was driving 10mph to the hospital.
She was seen driving too slow after murders by a car passing her .
What?! You do not repeat the truth.
Disagree completely
So great. I adore this channel!
I would like to see the reenactment video in its entirety. That would be very interesting
