@@robertwhisenhunt8740 after a certain time you get tired looking at it. I have my golf for 9 years now and last year I changed the color because I wanted something different after all that time
Agree!! Only an idiot would do that. The time, this blue thing came, was something. I remember new Pioneer home stereosystems with blue display. I was ready to kill to get one. I had Pioneer KEH-5800 car stereo. It was a freakin cool thing to have.
Very informative video. Don't be bothered by the people saying the white colour is ugly. If you like it, it doesn't matter. I personally just wanted to put new lights since my old ones dont work. Thanks
I can see all these people whining about a changed color scheme and wonder. Why are you bashing at him for such thing? It's just a matter of preference. The tutorial itself is great. both, clear and detailed. And you can change to stronger LEDs of ANY color. it's not like it won't work of you keep the previous color scheme but with stronger LEDs...
+Lukas Dainys thank you, i tried to explain that many times, but i gave up, you can use this toturial if you want to schange color or replace original burned ones, to know how to repair
But he choose the wrong LED size, he also didn't checked for the resistors (because different forward voltage of the Blue and white LED's), also the Soldering itself isn't as good as it should be.
When i drove on of these (from a friend), i couldn't watch the deep Blue color for a long time, my eyes refocused every time i looked on the speedo. Thats why i would solder the cluster to white. But i would use the right size and new LED's.
I prefer the original blue led (maybe more powerful blue led) but not white... but! it helped a lot to me to open the dash if i need to make some further mods on it. Thanks!
I agree the bule looks better, and I'm assuming the new LEDs are full brightness all the time (no dimming). Awesome how-to for sure if I ever have to take the cluster out, but I'm not cool enough for sunglasses at night.
Hi, thanks for the video, great to see how the unit is put together. My instrument cluster has just started to play up, the middle screen (trip, gear position etc) has gone blank, but is back lit constantly, the ‘apply brake’ light is constantly lit, and when the headlights are on the cluster lights up full but can’t be dimmed. Maybe it’s an easy fix, have you any ideas? Thanks Paul
Neither of my plastic rods work and the LEDs do seem quite dim, I've just bought the car recently so if I'm going to attempt one I might aswell attempt both Would this not be an issue with the button behind the rods though?
Your welcome, this is what this video is for helping people, some think that you must put this ugly white color, you dont, but it can help you replace blue ones or replace the lens like you did.
SO much work for something that is perfect from the beginning.. And if you dimm the lights, what do you think happens to the rest of the leds that are not replaced?
+flattabang i know what happens since i replaced them, if the blue leds are perfect for you then then you can use this video as a tutorial on how to change leds whend they stop working
Why would you want to change the awesome gauge colors of the MKIV? I have a 16' R and still miss the purple and red gauges, it was so original. I wish they'd bring them back.
+DIY Garage Projects and reviews yes , chrome and white is awesome , i tried it but i put back the blue and red lights . i prefer it stock , i have a mk4 1.9tdi (131hp) pacific 2004.
Did you know: if you live in a country with internet access you can have LED's shipped to your door for pennies. No need to desolder them from an existing product. The more you know.
Diy Garage Projects and reviews. I noticed that when you turned your ignition to on your check engine light didnt illuminate. My vw golf gti mk4 does the exact same thing. Can you explain to me why it doesnt illuminate on start up? The info would be a great help
Nice vid! I just picked up some B5 passat clusters from the junkyard. I am going to do the b5 passat to MK4 cluster upgrade and while I am at it, wanted to do something with the LEDS maybe. Either way, now I have a vid step by step of a cluster disassembly haha.
Hey guys, and thanks for the video, i have i big problem i hope you can help me out with. i followed, your steps, but the revs dosent work any more, do you have any suggestions ?
Only 1 wire cotrols the tacho, check the connection diagram, and check the connections on the back, reseat every connector make sure that you plugged them all the way
Hi! I have a VW Polo 9N (2004) with the following problem: LEDs on my dashboard is quite fade, but the biggest problem is that I barely can see my handbrake LED. Is there any way to resolve this issue? Or am I supposed to change the whole dash?
I love the original color and i woudn't have all that work just because of that... BUT this video was really useful to me as i need to change my broken warning buzzer, sometimes i leave my lights on, and i get a empty battery. So Thanks !!!

For me "Cool White" look much better for dash. White color temperatures: www.sdllighting.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/cool-white-and-warm-white-led.jpg

Nice job, and a lot of electronic work done to achieve this, but for me personally, I prefer the blue background with red needles on my Mk4 dashboard to bog standard looking white background lighting. But that’s just my opinion.

I changed my leds too, but i did it with the actual size like the original ones, i thought they won't be so bright like yours, but i was wrong. They are damn too bright, even when it's dimmed to the lowest setting. Maybe you have some suggestions how to make it a bit darker?
+Arnas Stanionis there is a way, you can find a pin on your dash that is used to power the led, and put a resistor in between the dash and 12v wire, that way you can choose the default brightness of dash only and still use regular car dimmer to dimm them even more

You probably dont have to change the hole dashboard, eather the led burnt or oil level sensor needs replacement, its not a big deal, you can anways check oul level from time to time, my oil led is working, but i still check oil in my car every now and then, thanks for watching :)
Eye Doctors report that little extra brightness in white lights helps prevent pupils from fully dilating, helping your eyes adjust better to those hideous LED headlights that blind everybody. Also love the fact I can read my dash during the daylight. Great job on the video so where do you get the work light for savaging white leds?
I tried But left side wont work, right is ok. I didn’t check the polaraty before taking the blues off. Do you have a scheme of polaraty, I need it to fix the problem, otherwise I need to order a new one...
I dont have a schematic anymore but you could dissasemble the dash and connect it back on the car and turn your lights on and check the polarity with a multimeter
Very interesting and usefull, like instrument panell removing and other things but the white light reminds me of old cars, plus is to strong and not so cool like the blue one
Better blue plasma, with 10€ you buy 100 of them, i changed in a passat and bmw and the result is awesome. Combined red(audi) with blue plasma, the result is like a luxury car.
Great video. If I tried it, I guarantee the lcd numerical display would never display correctly, tried it with a watch once. Useless afterwards. Would've been nice to see the dash display brightness dimmed to see how much they could be dimmed tho.
You do know different colors of LED's have different power requirements right? Doing an LED swap in this half-assed fashion is a good way to have a cluster that lights up only partially at best.
I think white better, but isnt it too bright? Have you been thinking about changing the brihtness by a potentiometer or something like that? Thanks for the video.
Can't believe you'd change that! The blue looks a million times better!
When I was younger one of the biggest reasons I wanted an MK4 was the blue display lol

Sorry but one of the greatest features of the car is the original cluster lighting. Looks like it took a lot of work to ruin it.

"more better" that is redundant.

Great Vid! ,Genius!
Is their a LED that is more deep blue?
The Mk4 platform inside and out seems to of been ahead of its time. MK4 are wonderful cars.
I love the original blue. It’s one of those unique thinks about the mk4 that makes it so dope.
