    I just want to give you the biggest hug. This is a heavy movie. As to the question of Wild Bill, he was arrested for a separate crime, not for the murder of the girls. Nobody took the time to investigate, once they found John with the girls' bodies. When he said he tried to take it back, which we know in hindsight means he was trying to heal/save them, they assumed, because of the time, and his skin colour, that he meant he was trying to take back the fact that he had killed them.

      Yep - Wild Bill killed the little girls - as we see when John shows Paul the vision using the "gift". Bill was a known felon and rapist working right there on their own daddy's farm... but nobody looked at him twice because they were too focused on John because, obv, they found him covered in blood w/their bodies in his arms... but also because he was black and a stranger in their town. Typical 1930s racism.

    Everyone loves John Coffey and Paul Edgecomb - and they ARE wonderful... but tbh, Brutal Howell is my favorite GM character. Everybody needs a best friend like Brutal. He's got integrity and he's got your back - always. And he's a good man - telling Del all about "Mouseville" to comfort him... shows kindness and compassion.

    • @LittleBlueOwl318

      I hate Percy so bad!! And Brutal was 100% correct in telling Paul not to stop Del's execution when it went wrong... if they had, he'd have suffered so much more for so much longer. They'd have had to start all over again... Lord! It was more merciful, at that point, to NOT stop. Poor Del - he did not deserve THAT, no matter what he did.
      I hate Percy so bad!! Did I tell you I hate Percy soooooooo damn bad? UGH! Plus, I love when Brutal boxed and pulled Percy's ears 44:41 and punched him in his evil face 38:21

    I love that Melinda gave John the medallion after he healed her. St. Christopher is a patron saint... he offered protection to travelers against death on a journey. Many churches placed images or statues of him, usually opposite the south door, so he could be easily seen. He is usually depicted as a giant, with a child on his shoulder and a sheperd's staff in one hand, leading the lambs to the light... fits John Coffey.

    Paul was 44 the year John Coffey (age unknown) walked the Green Mile (1935) which means he was born in 1891. So, in '99 Paul was 108 and Mr Jingles was 65 years old. A pet mouse in captivity has an average life expectancy of about 3 years... makes you wonder how long Paul will live, eh?! Several hundred years probably. John was a very powerful empath - he couldn't help that he felt all the pain and ugliness in the world all day every day. And he must've been a thousand years old, at least... no wonder he was so tired.

    1. YOU WILL CRY😭😭😭😭
    2. Dabbs Greer/old Paul was ill during production, so his part was done later. He also played Reverend Alden on "Little House on the Prairie".
    3. Hammersmith was not a good lawyer. (most likely a racial thing. It was 1935 South.)
    4. In the book King briefly covers why the Chief and Del are on death row.
    5. This movie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (MCD)😇 and Best Cast but unfortunately neither won.😭😭
    6. Players in other King adaptations: Jeffery DeMunn: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist,
    Storm of the Century and William Sadler: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist. David Morse: The Langoliers. Patricia Clarkson played Margarat White in King's remake of Carrie". Needless to say, it was a much different part.
    7. Goof: Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream. I know it' just for the movie because of the length of the execution scene.
    8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but
    was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill.
    9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of playing Percy.👌EVERYONE hates him.
    10. John also rescues the other patients at Briar Ridge.
    11. IRL both David Morse and James Cromwell are about the same height as Michael Clark Duncan (RIP). They used planks, a small bed and smaller chair along with trick photography/angles to make John look taller.
    12 The scene where John takes Mr. Jingles for safe keeping before Del's execution, they used a real mouse, and it pooped on Paul's shoulder, and he brushed it off.
    13. Now we know what the "leftover is fine" dry toast is for.
    14 EVERYBODY cries and has to take time to reflect. Congratulations you just experienced.

    I'm familiar with the "magic negro" trope. A lot of people think it's racist, but I think it's actually a push-back against racism. It displays the idea of the downtrodden and repressed who have deep qualities or abilities the oppressor cannot see or recognize. In this case, though, the symbolism goes deeper. The idea of a divine innocent who brings miraculous healing, is killed for the sins of others, who goes willingly and with love and forgiveness for his executioners, and whose initials are J.C., has a meaning of its own.

    • @BrunoBritos
      @BrunoBritos  Před 4 měsíci +1

      yea i can see that way, but i think that the problem its that when the whole movie the ONLY black actor its the magical one

    • @llanitedave
      @llanitedave Před 4 měsíci +2

      @@BrunoBritos I think you have a good point there. I also think it's... complicated. Considering the setting, the Deep South during the Jim Crow era, and the prison context, the only other possibilities for black characters would have been other prisoners. There could have been no black co-workers, colleagues, or even friends in those days. (I grew up in south Louisiana during the latter part of the Jim Crow period, and saw its end. The racial realities of the time were far worse than you could probably imagine, and even as a young white boy on the privileged side, I felt an instinctive shame and sense of dirtiness by being part of it.) I haven't read the Stephen King book, so I don't know if there were other prisoners on death row at the time, but its true that the majority of those sentenced to death during that time period were black. HOWEVER, prisons were also segregated back then, so in reality Arlen Bitterbuck and Edward Delecroix would not even have been present if John Coffee was. In which case you are right, the other inmates should also have been black, which would have made John Coffey one of several, and his gifts would not have seemed strictly tied to his race. Some of the circumstances were chosen more for dramatic affect than historical accuracy, for example, in 1935 Louisiana, the electric chair had not even been introduced yet, and executions were still conducted by hanging.
      On reality, there are enough directions for the symbolism to be interpreted, and enough historical departures from fact, that I think either or both points of view could be supported.

    R.I.P. Michael Clarke Duncan aka John Coffey 😇🙌🏻🫶🏻❤
    The Green Mile is not a easy movie to watch, you have real guts to watch it, just like anyone else who can watch this real heartbreaking movie all the way through , as I admit I can't watch any of the executions, I especially can't and won't ever bring myself to watch John Coffey's execution or watch him be violated again by being spat on or spat at after attempting to save those thos two poor, sweet, innocent little girls.
    However it's a shame percy and most of all wild bill didn't get executed as they both deserved it and i would happily watch them both be executed as they deserve it, especially wild bill as him and percy got off too easy imo.
    I hate the fact wild bill has the same nickname as me "bill" because what he as done to them poor , sweet innocent little girls 😪😤.

    R.I.P. Michael Clarke Duncan AKA John Coffey 😇🙏🙌🏻❤❤.
    P.S. i know this scene of by heart now as i have seen it so many times and its probably my favourite scene of the whole Green Mile movie , where John Coffey says " I'm tired boss, I'm tired of being on the road lonely as a Sparrow in the rain , I'm tired of having nobody to be with ,no one to talk to , Ask me where we are going or why , but most of all I'm tired of everyone being ugly to each other, it's like pieces of glass in my head can't you understand boss? " that is was and always will be a real eye opener for me and everyone that watches this movie to see what the world for what it truely is , because John Coffey speaks the truth in that scene right there 😢😪❤.
    The song at the end always gets me and makes me instantly think about John Coffey , just like when I see a field or corn fields it makes me think of John Coffey straight away 😓😢😭🤧😇❤🙌🏻🫶🏻.
