Test for Hip Control

  • This is a test that we use in our clinic to give us an indication of how strong a person's hip and leg muscles are and how well they are controlling their legs. Poor control can contribute to a range of injuries. If your pelvis drops or your knee turns in, your glutes on the supporting leg may be weak. Watch that your foot arch stays nice and upright.

Do you have videos for strengthening each of the sections that might be weak? Hip, glutes and ankle.

We don't, but that's actually a great idea so I've added it to our list.

Depending on what the cause is, it might help to either strengthen your glutes, plus/or learn good movement patterns, and/or strengthen your foot and ankle muscles (reduce pronation).
You can find more info on hip strengthening here: www.sports-injury-physio.com/post/glute-max

If you wanted help with your rehab and an exercise plan, this is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call. You can read more about how the online consultations work here: www.sports-injury-physio.com/services

Hi Mohammed. This test only really works if you don't have any pain in your joints. If you have a meniscus tear it may be better to do double leg squats to start with.
