I was raised in southern Ohio south of Chillicothe Ohio I was always told the glaciers stop about there I lived in Jackson county and vinton county we always found arrowheads in are gardens and in caves behind my grandparents house
Greenfield Ohio here. Find some interesting artifacts here around Paint Creek State park.
I live in Harrison ohio and this year alone I've found nearly 8 grams of gold in the whitewater river and great Miami River. Yes, this year of 2023
Thank you for taking the time to explore my state and highlighting the various spots to collect and types of gemstones for rockhounds! 💎💎💎
That was so informative, Minnesota also has I think a hard rock gold mine by lake Vermilion, they had another strike I think in the 70's not sure. Check it out, but I know the states gemstone is Agate. Also I know for a fact that the Zumbro river in the south has a lot of gold.
You did a very good job with this video young man 😉
I'm a mineral collector living in Ohio and have been fortunate enough to have collected at many of these sites.
You included just about everything I can think of that Ohio has to offer in minerals!!
Again, nice job and thank you for posting 😁
Sir, what advice could you offer a new treasure collector in bergholz?
@@KittyRuiz Hello Vanessa!!
Not sure if this question was intended for me, but I'll try to help ;)
First thing I'd recommend is a day at the Nethers Farm near Flint Ridge State Park.
The address here is 3680 Flint Ridge Road, Hopewell Ohio.
Adults pay 7.50 each to collect and .50 per pound for what you decide to take home...an incredible bargain!! Also a great place for kids to collect ;)
Here you'll find an abundance of beautiful colored flint, quartz crystals and occasionally barite crystals.
You can actually collect without digging as the "knappers" will sometimes set the crystals at the top of some of the pits as they cannot use the material for crafting relics...Flint is literally covering the ground everywhere you look!!
If you decide to dig, you'll need gloves, small shovel, hammers, chisels and safety glasses.
Flint is very sharp, so take some band-aids!!
Also, I'd recommend joining your closest rock and mineral club and Friends of Mineralogy.
You can get into some of the various quarries through "Friends of Mineralogy"...check out the website.
Hope this is of some help...Good Luck!!!
I love learning about Ohio’s amazing geology, truly a hidden gem(ba-dum-ts). My dad, brother and I loved to go hiking at Malabar Farm/Mohican, it’s kinda been my second home (my dad even took his first steps there as a toddler and my grandmother used to go camping there at 16) Butternut trail has a small cave about a half mile in and if you’re not creeped out by the biggest fucking spiders you’ve ever seen you can climb through the mini cave system and come out on the roof of the cave, just watch for holes in the ground which go about 15-20 feet down. It’s a magical looking place all covered mosses As a kid I’d sit in there and listen to all the sounds of the cave, I think that cave is what made me fall in love with rocks...Also Ohio’s brown fluorite glows neon green under fluorescent lighting!!!
I went to Put-in-bay a month ago and you could see Kelly’s island so close and it was amazing!
Awesome! Thanks, from an old buckeye!
Found myself watching this again . Very awesome
man i grew up in Lexington/mansfield Ohio and the Clear fork river came off of our Clear Fork reservoir..i wish i had known that there is gold there,,i would have spent more time panning for gold than i did riding dirt bikes and go karts!!
Great video!!
nw ohio here..thx for such a nicely done informative video
Daletoledo East Side Glass City my whole life. Respect.
Love the handmade flint knife that you found. Thank you for telling me that I can turn pieces of flint that I find into jewelry pieces. I hadn't thought of that. I would love to go find some other special rocks locally. I live near Troy, Ohio. Where can I go locally to search for some nice ones?? I love your video. Thanks for making this one about Ohio!!🤗👍♥️
New to the Chanel can you make a video on were to find iron or bog iron and other metals. Also the iv been in the geode on Putin bay never new it could be used for firerworks
I think i found 2 erratics on a possible morain but its south of where the ice stopped by 30 miles maybe. but im still going to check it out. 1 looks like a it has a pumpkin face on it
This might be off topic somewhat but hubby and I was pouring 'River Rock' stones in our dry water way from our down spout. The stones were purchased at Lowe’s Store. Anyway,I found a petrified mushroom in perfect condition. It’s about two inches tall, creamy color and shaped perfectly like a spruce. I wish I had noticed what state the stones came from. It’s now displayed in my curio. I also find soap stone here and there, on our property. We live in central Ohio. I’d love to hunt for gems, precious metals or anything that’s interesting.
What an awesome find!
I am from steubenville ohio.this is good information
What about the historical references of the Shawnee Indians having had two silver mines in Ohio? ( in fact the word Shawnee means silver people and John Kinzie one of the founders of Chicago, was known to the natives as Shawneeakwe or silver man because his original trade was as a silversmith) one of these mines is rumored to now be covered by a reservoir, while the other is rumored to be located in a deep ravine on the campus of Antioch College.
The geology of Ohio is entirely wrong for silver production.
I have some Ohio specimens I need identified would you be able to help crystalline metal specimens
a guy in Trumbull county in mineral ridge hit a deposit back in the day tried to get funding to head towards erie
I've been hoping to get into gem mining where I live. But I haven't found any information on columbiana County being a good place for mining. Any info?

Very informational video thanks for sharing. One question what's stream in eastern Ohio would be the best one to hit for finding gold in your opinion. I'm new to panning and think it would be cool to find a little bit of gold. Thanks. HH. JOE.
If you believe that this was informative , let alone , Very informative then your truly lost . You need to join the O S P A and or the G P A A , 'Buckeye chapter and while you are at it join a local ' Rock & Mineral club .
Hey I'm in Ashland/Richland Country within a few miles of Clearfork now but my farm has small creek (glacier till mid height where it flows well.) Been wondering, I took some samples but the flakes seem so small and not sure if they are gold or not. wondering whats cheapest way to find out.?
@@nativeterramining621 thanks for ideas, I ended up getting a $150 sluice/pan/classifiers off eBay. Expect it to be here next week... Went looking at the farm yesterday ahead of storms. Lots of gravel built up where it's not wanted so maybe kill 2 birds by moving the stone once ;)
Richmond furnace was were we hunt I’ve moved too Michigan but go down too see my family I’ll have too take a pan and poke around there’s a creek that runs right in front of my uncles house Gold is were you find it salt creek is right down the road it’s more close to Ross county you can see the hills start right in that area

Good video by the way. I disagree with the millions of years aging but I appreciate you sharing where to find the different minerals. I live in Ohio and would love to find something amazing in my small yard :D . A mastodon and other things were found not far from us.
Tracy Zdelar lol don’t believe in “millions of years ago.’ Looks for gold deposited millions of years ago
I dIsSaGrEe WiTh ThE MiLLioNs oF yEaRs oF AgInG, someone doesn't know much about geology then lol...
Time is fake ,just a way to make shorter

@@joshuawalters51 what do I google to find this I live near butler
Wow i had no idea ohio had gold. Wow
Here in Ohio we call the Buckeye a worthless nut.
If you're in Ohio you can probably find a ton of fossilized shells in your driveway lol
We do
Can you make a ohio geode video?
What's so cool about Seneca county
Right now??? The temperature.
Hamilton Ohio here. What can i find in the little miami
trash
Good cat fishing above salt fork.
Are you from ohio ? My dude if so lets Link up . im up in northeastern Mahoning County
How does one legally hunt for minerals and gems in Ohio? Most of the locations are quarry's, which are private property.. is this more of a just, "hunt at your own risk" type of thing?
You can join the gpaa they have sites in ohio to pan for gems and gold
You can pan for gold on any public land, except for state forest.
Oaks quarry is public
a chunk of gold the size of a bowling ball was found on a friends Ohio farm after a plow 30+ years ago dropped by glaciers
Think they've got a pic of it? That would be awesome to see
Can u give a rough estimate location close enough and public to look? My uncle was with a freind in the old days ,found a huge nugget in lower great Miami River zone ,he mentioned by b street dam
You can also be fined and possibly arrested for letting your elephant stand in a handicap or school zone in Ohio !
😎 Swag like Ohio
I live by Cleveland ohio and i want to find gold!!!!! I have gold fever
If you are seriouse about finding gold your best luck would be heading south of Cleve. Research the glacial boundries and most of the creeks should have some gold if you have the patients. The gold here is very small and not easy to find in large quantities.
Better join the G P A A , the ' Buckeye chapter
The laws on shoes, women in houses and arrests on 4th of july and sunday are not true...I can tell you for sure on the arrests thing lol
Where did you hear these wacky Ohio laws?
Almost all laws are public and you can probably just either search weird Ohio laws or search Ohio laws and look through them
There`s some good ones ,in one town it`s illegal to step on the joints of the sidewalk as you walk another one it`s illegal to walk down the walk and chew gum at the same time. There are some doosies out there but I`m sure a lot of other places have outlandish laws that arn`t upheld anymore.
What part of Ohio are you in?
WHAT!!! Nothing,,, no minerals in North East Ohio??? Land and water is good for nothing than owning land?
cant get fish drunk ? im out
Lost my view with tje buckeye tree
@@nativeterramining621 ya you should watch it.learn from your own mistakes.amd try again..might get more full views..and make tje typ of money you thought you would from your first attempt
Is this guy actually trying to pass himself off as Native American? He's as white as I am!
Well, I'm from Ohio. And I stopped watching your video when you couldn't get through the first paragraph without insulting us.
