- DSP decided to use his stupid news segment as an excuse to go on a 20+ minute rant to shit on Final Fantasy XVI once again, plus he also uses it to shit on the Final Fantasy series as a whole and Square Enix as a company. All Final Fantasy games are supposed to be like Octopath Traveler, apparently (which he didn't even play, btw; just putting that out there).

This whole segment is the reason why people don’t take DSP seriously now or in the future.
This is how you can tell DSP knows nothing about gaming. First off, "the shills" are variety streamers. Which means when they finish a game, they move on to the next one. That is the reason they aren't talking about it. Why does he go straight to the conspiracy of "under performing" as a way to justify his beliefs? I'll tell you why, 'under performance' could have been 10 million in sales. So under performing isn't the same as poor sales numbers. Metacritic 87 critics and 8.1 users. That isn't a bad score.
Two, DSP knows jack and shit about Final Fantasy. FF1has a ton of scifi elements in a fantasy world. Going to the air orb, you go through a mechanized tower. So aliens from another planet, interkingdom drama, and summons, in any form, have been a staples for the series. FF4 is full with drama between kingdoms and even an opera. I've been playing Final Fantasy games since they were released in the US.
Three, this is no where near like Anthem. Mostly because FF16 didn't flop. For perspective on Metacritic, 59 critics and 4.0 users. There is a huge difference.
Four, the story is only boring or uninteresting if you're not engaged in it. DSP is never engaged in any of the stories and you can tell by the horrendous jokes he tells during dramatic moments. Of course he would think its boring since there is mature and complicated themes. Themes about duty, respect, and honor. On top of that the theme of how guilt can drastically alter the way you see the world and it can be its own form of PTSD.
Sorry this over-grown idiot pisses me off when he tries to talk about Final Fantasy like he an authority and he can barely be bothered to pay attention to the game because he is waiting for the next tip.
You know what sucks? There are so few games he actually gets or engages in, and the other 99% he whines about because he’s too busy cracking 4th grade humor jokes most of the time or whining about a menu.
When DSP plays your favorite game, there’s no doubt that you’ll hate him afterwards.

I don’t understand why he has to do this. This tough “real” guy facade is so tired and has really screwed him over. Just say the game didn’t do anything for you and move on like a civil human being. One thing Phil doesn't take into account, is most game devs only count the first two weeks of sales after launch. That's where they decide if they succeeded or failed. It doesn't matter if they sell one million or three million, as long as their internals says if it's a win or not. He also needs to cite his sources; because he doesn't have any friends, is too busy to do anything because of his job, but apparently knows what the conversation is.
There's also that one time where Phil ranted about how sales numbers are lied about; because games that get bundled with consoles and such are counted as sales. Final Fantasy XV was a game on Playstation Plus, and God knows how many times it got downloaded; those downloads would boost the sales numbers, numbers that Phil has gone on record to say are erroneous. So granted I'm pushing two different arguments of his together; but he wants to say XV beat out XVI, I'm sure there's an argument to be made; but it can't be made by Phil and his deranged mind.
It's absolutely hilarious how I've not heard one bad comment on FFXVI yet King Dent is trying to make it seem like everyone agrees with him.
Dave clearly has no understanding what makes FF works as a franchise. Tons of people love 16. He is just talking out of his ass like always.

The humorous thing is: he talks about square enix being wrong for blaming "online hate" for the situation of FF XVI, and states that that hate exists for a reason.
Now, if he were to invoke just the tiniest smidge of self awareness, he would realize...

If he thinks FFXVI is bad because it has what I would consider a perfectly normal amount of sexual content for an adult story; wait until he hears how much sex there is in BG3. Two of the top GotY contenders have explicit adult themes and DSP can't resist making sure everyone knows his befuddling opinion.
This was my 1st final fantasy and I loved it! Currently working on my 2nd playthrough to get platinum. Love the story and had me emotionally invested

I wasn't a huge fan of how linear Final Fantasy XIII was, it wasn't until like the third disk when it began to feel like you got open world, but I do like that Square Enix is trying different things with their games. Phil talks like he is a fan of the franchise when he has zero clue about them to begin with. He is not a gamer, he's a total poser.

FF16 was such a failure that instead of moving on to marketing FF7 Rebirth, SE is focusing more resources on 2 paid DLCs and the PC port for FF16.
It makes perfect sense if you don't think about it.
DSP thinks that Final Fantasy 16 veers wildly off course from what Final Fantasy is but it really doesnt do that at all. It has way more in common with Final Fantasy games than he understands. It literally hits story beats that FF14 does, which is sometimes to 16's detriment! The only thing that makes it different is the combat system but even then FF15 also had an action battle system where you didnt control the other characters at all.
DSP acting like nothing memorable happens in it like the Bahamut or Titan fights weren't memorable. Final Fantasy 16 isnt some mega flop, DSP, just because the game has sex and blood which makes you uncomfortable.
He thinks FF16 is more hated than Diablo 4? Really? The game that only the most hardcore of Blizzard meatriders defends? The game that was basically killed with the seasonal change and even the players still think the endgame loop sucks?

At this point i don't even consider him playing FF16 because lets be honest he didn't he has 0% idea about the story because since min 1 he skipped every dialog or talked/clowned over cutscenes and after 2 streams of not getting tips he was ready to "wage quit" but he watched dectractor videos again and even mentioned that "they think i will drop it because of donations" and then forced himself to finish it.
You can say the same about Star Wars, Hogwarts and Zelda. And eventually Starfield.
First, I REALLY wish the jackhole would stop saying "Okay" and "Alright" constantly! At this point, it's become so dang maddening with how much he over uses those words so dang much!
And second, what's this dude going on about FF16 messing with the lore of the series here? Each game has had differing sets of Lore that's made for the worlds a lot of these games take place in. They don't even HAVE a set lore to begin with!
And Third, hasn't it hit this dude's head that the reason a lot of people don't talk about FF16 much is because there were just TOO MANY GAMES launching before and after it? Not a lot of us are capable of keeping up with each of the hottest of releases that have been coming out one after another in the past season alone.
The dude continues to be so full of absolute BS due to him having such a low attention span when playing that game that it doesn't surprise me that he would fail to take a lot of this stuff into consideration before coming on air with this malarkey.
