How To Install/Remove Backing Pad On Harbor Freight 2" Orbital Sander

- This is how to install & remove the hook & loop backing pad on a Central Pneumatic 2 Inch Orbital Sander from Harbor Freight. It probably applies to other similar small orbital sanders as well. The instructions that came with tool are terrible, and don't even tell you how to do this that I could find. The backing pad screws on, but you need to use the tool that came with the sander, to hold the chuck in place, so you can actually screw the backing pad on. And also to remove the backing pad.

You are the only person I trust on this matter (lol). I've searched, watched, and liked your videos. How do I find and replace this part on a Schwinn front (or for that matter rear) wheel? i.imgur.com/k4QyX5O.jpg That's a bearing race, but do they call it a 'cup'? Where do I find a new one?
@@TheFogLakeshore The cups aren't generally replaceable. A few models of hubs had replaceable cups, but the replacements are impossible to get. Replace the hub.
@@RJTheBikeGuy Thank you for confirming this. It's so confusing, they do sell axles with the cups, but no cups I can find and well... these ones aren't coming out lol. I got new rims and I'll keep these for a hub replacement later.
@@TheFogLakeshore They sell axles with the cones. Not cups.
Pop ópo you can 🥫🥫
An RJ the bike guy video. Haven’t seen one of those in a while
he can't find his bear slippers :(
Don't own or plan to own an orbital sander but its an RJ video so I gotta watch it anyway 🤣
Thank you for posting this! I just bought the damn thing and couldn't figure out how to tighten the backing pad. You weren't kidding when you said the instructions are useless. My eye sight isn't great so I didn't even see the tiny hole where the rod goes in to. I kept putting into the Allen screw. LOL! Thanks again!
THANK YOU! This was driving me nuts. I can’t understand how HB didn’t realize this wasn’t explained in their manual. Too busy writing all the lawyer stuff on how you could possibly hurt yourself I guess
OMG!!!! I’m a newbie to air tools and bought a DA mini off Amazon. For 8 months I have bitched, tonight I finally looked it up. Thank you SIR!!!!!!☮️❤️
Glad you're still posting. I've been going back and watching some of your previous videos!!! Thanks for all you do!
Thanks so much for this video! I noticed that the instructions were lacking as well, and I was at a loss as to how to change the pad, since the hooks got damaged as I was sanding very organic geometry. This totally clears it all up! Thanks again.
Thank you, RJ! Apparently, I'm not the only HF'er that was scratching their melon over this contraption. Very helpful!
Bit of non-sequitur here, but RJ THANK YOU for your videos. I watched your basic suntour fork tear down over and over; then I dove in and and tore down my son's suntour fork that was not moving. Bought some slick honey, cleaned and de-rusted everything. Put it back together and boing, boing, boing, it worked like it was brand new. Couldn't have done it without your videos. Thanks again.
just took mine out of box 20 minutes ago...stumped...found your video thanx for sharing.
I just bought the same sander and I'm looking at the instructions and they don't give you crap. Just wanted to tell you thank you
The intermission is over, now the RJ SHOW must go on
Glad your back RJ.. can't wait for more bike vids.
I'm so glad you are here with us these days cause we need you...that's the first i want to get off my chest...so the bicycle thing question i have for you is...how long last a chain on a road bike? In kilometers if possible?!?!don't worry i subscribed you a long time ago✌️
It depends on quality of chain and how good your are on maintaining it. But usually about 3000-4000 miles
RJ I watch your videos on repeat for a projects often. Thanks for all you do. I just finished an overhaul on my RJ bike stand.
Thanks. I’m pretty mechanical and I lost patience trying to figure that out. The instructions were absolutely useless. HB owes you.
I knew there'd be a bunch of "you're back!" comments:) and for good reason - we missed you!
I just thought about you yesterday RJ wandering where you got to!😊 And here you are!
Not quite the same level, but I'm doing a bit of DIY too, I'm trying to come up with a bracket to mount a front full fender on my bike with no mounting points anywhere. P-clips work fine as mounting points, I'm working on the bridge.
Managed to find a bottle cage adapter that is the right length and is going to be the perfect fender bridge after some modifications. Tinkering is fun :)
Good to have you back RJ! You inspired me a lot to work on my bike and get my own tools.
He’s back!!!
So glad you are back!
Great to see you back. Missed ya.
Glad to see you back!
So glad you're back and thanks for the tip👍
Thank you just bought one could not find out how to put together good work thank you.
Long time, no see. Welcome back!
Welcome back!
Never try these tools, but good to learn
Thank you!!! I was going nuts trying to figure this out
Thanks for this post, I was about to take it back because what they call instructions totally suck!
Good to see you, sir. Good tip.
Brilliant video. Thank you!
On the video about how to switch from bolt on wheels to qr what do you do if you have lost the measurement for the cone and spacers a lock nuts
Hi RJ, noce to see you again.
Ironically, i have been sanding and polishing a polycarbonate helmet visor recently and... totally ruined it, lol.
I don't know how to do these things, i suck, it was the first time.
You the man RJ
Just watched your video on repairing a craftsman ratchet, great video. I was wondering if you could tell me how to get the gear assembly apart, the ball bearing seems to be stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thnk u for sharing the info
Thanks for the info was helpful
Most things are simpler once you know what to do. 🙂
Hello, welcome back! I have one problem, recently i was riding my sr suntour xcr 120mm fork(2 weeks old), and it started making weird noises and clicking. I serviced it and everything looksbrand new. Reassembled it, and now everytime i hit a bump, it clicks, like the springs is moving inside the fork. Any help?
Its been a long time

Can you help me identifying an old road bike? It has ks 4545 on the shimano LF dropouts it’s a 1973 I think. It has a40 and 73001 on the fork steerer and a complete 1973 shimano dura ace group set. Also it has B M on the head tube.
MAANN I need your help, my rotor is rubbing on my Disc brake adapter what should i do if i put a lot of spacer there's no space left for axle to bite the drop out do i need to get a new longer axle please response hehe i search a million times of this thing and your my 1% in 100% chances
Terrific commercial for Harbor Freight.
Good day! Will a 700x38c tire fits a 27.5 rims? I know this not related topic but i just want to know it it fits.
won't the tyre be kind of loose? since 700c is 28 inch? i wouldn't risk it, you might be going along well and the tire slips out of the wheel and sends you flying :o
RJ! Wassup!
Thank’s
Tou saved my life !!
Stupid Vevor …
Welcome back! as always great explanation. Thanks. Looking forward to see the project on what you're going to use that orbital sander. I think I can guess..... ;-)
Hello RJ
I have a road bike with a SRAM RED crankset and the hex bolt head itself, that holds the right crankarm is stripped. What tools do I need to remove it? a bolt extractor and drill? if so, what sizes or type do i need?
did you try using a bigger tool and hammer it in a bit? i've had this happen to me and this is what i did and it worked! add wd-40 before you do this to make it easier
I thought it can fit a freewheel cog or powertool for hubs
Hmmm a sander aye, frame repainting video coming soon...
Hey, I have a question about my little cousins bike. I have been trying to fix it but every time it moves the breaks stop it. How can I fix this? And no, it is not a motor bike.
so long my friend
I'd been worried that you were sick or worse.
It's like a weed eater head swap.
Thought you died of Covid or something, just went away for quite so time eh.
And if that doesn't work, use an impact wrench.
How can someone be at the industrial level of needing this type of tool, (That needs a BIG DAM COMPRESSOR TO FUNCTION..No PANCAKE units ) and not know the basic approach on how to attach the backing plate..
hi sir,do you have any email adress? I wanna ask you some things about converting some parts to my vintage race bike.Thank you alot.
Sordo Jeffry yo🇩🇴🇲🇽💪👨💪🤙si 👍bien tu 🇺🇸🇲🇽👨🤙RJ the bike guy si🤝sii 👋Hola 🤗🤙👍bien si 🤝🇺🇸👨🤙🚴
Thank you. You're right, the directions suck.
If you couldn't figure this out, maybe you shouldn't be using pneumatic tools.
Never used one of these before but surely this is just very poor product design?
Welcome back!
