Thanks I just ordered one. looking forward to using it.
They are out of stock everywhere I can't find it avaliable.
You must have one heck of a following because this sander has been out of stock every where since I first watched this video about 5 months ago😄
I use the sander attachment that comes with practically every oscilating multi-tool for those areas. I have taken my grinder to a couple of those attachments (I've collected quite a few over the years) to make an even smaller sanding surface. A light touch is key if you don't want to leave marks though.
I’ve used pneumatic versions of that in automotive paint work to get small dust and contamination patches sanded out of paint for years. They are handy to have
Makita and Milwaukee make similar products, but they call then sander/polishers (in addition to the detail sander you mentioned from Milwaukee). Hercules (Harbor Freight) has a 12V one too. Woodturners love this kind of tool.
I just purchased both the Rikon 2" Detail Sander and HongWay 300pcs 2 Inches Sanding Discs. Thanks
Great review, what a handy tool for detail sanding and polishing work. The price is absolutely outrageous for the other options!
2:20 - to get rid of those lines for say a 0.5" deep pocket, do a clearing at 40% step over down to 0.49" and then a finishing tooldpath at 0.1" with a 10% step over. It'll be so clean you won't really need to sand the pocket. Learned this from Andy Bird Builds and it has saved me HOURS of sanding
You got me again! I was watching your video and thinking, this would be useful, but the Amazon pricing helped me to control myself. Then I clicked the Tools Today. Another of your tool recommendations heading to my house!
All my Rikon tools are great! Bandsaw, Lathe, and Jointer!
Interesting new small sanding tool, thank you for sharing, Stay warm, safe, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
If you want to try a 2" random orbital sander, Harbor Freight sells an air-powered one for less than $30. It requires a lot of air (4cfm at 90psi), but it works really well.
Told my wife, hey I got another tool I can't live without. Love your channel my friend, bought several tools on your recommendations. Keep em coming.
👊
These little sanders are always good to have around
Thanks for showing this I may need something like this down the line 👊🏻
I wish I saw this a week ago I spent the same amount for the corded 9mm radius polisher/sander wow I think I'll send it back and purchase this.
I’ve got a little one I use on my drill, but this looks cool too. Holding out for Milwaukee to make one!
I can see something like this being great for polishing epoxy coasters.
Wow ! Amazing! I’m getting one! I wanna use it for wet sanding lacquer finishes on guitars !😮
im only half way thru the video but wanted to mention that 3m has the same amazing xtract discs that you love in different sizes that i believe fit this sander. that may also improve quality more. id look into it
I have become a huge fan of your content. Thank you (again).
Thank you 👊
I been looking for something like this! I make wavy flags on my cnc and the waves are a pain in the butt to sand with my 5in
Thanks for sharing it's a good solution I own a rotary tool they have a right angle attachment for it that you can buy a flat disc for detail work and small sections if it's my needs everyone's needs are different
I actually like this and I can see how it could save a lot of time and money
Thanks for the review
Love it, the hours I’ve spent on hand-sanding those tight spots. I wonder what benefits the Milwaukee will have.
Gonna have to get one of them
Hey this looks like a great sander. I have an old Ridgid detail sander that I use all the time. I was thinking about getting a new one and this looks like a great option.
I could see how this would be handy dandy. I use a really cheap airpowered one. It's also pretty great.
Looks like a handy little sander!
I have a small air powered DA sander that came with 3"and 2" hook-it pads. I don't use the 2"pad at the body because they don't stock that size paper. I don't have the polishing pads they make for it either. I was really looking for a battery powered sander for woodworking.. I'm I saw your review on this one.! For the money, you can't beat it.
Looks like it would be great for sanding on the lathe
Putting on my list
Just ordered some board butter. Thanks for the discount code
Thanks Grant!
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos! They help so many of us out in making good tool purchases and saves your viewers time and money! Your awesome man!
Thanks Jay!
Sooooo tempting.
Since I purchased mine, they've raised the price from $98 to $138. I think for that price, the Milwaukee is the better buy.
I like it. You should try applying an oil finish with the polishing pads.
I've used 1" sanding discs with the Dremel, and 2" with a drill. They are definitely handy,
Loved the shirt 🤓🇺🇸👍
this is exactly what I need. I was hand sanding and it took forever. Thank you.
Amazing 👍
Whjile I love the occassional tool video, it seems like that's all your doing right now. I miss the build, and tip videos
Those don't make enough money he has bills to pay
So don’t watch and go about your day ?…
@@08mazda38 I'm just expressing my opinion. I miss his older content is all.
That’s pretty much his MO. Product pushing on Every. Single. Video. And yes, I usually don’t click.
Im excited for the milwaukee (really want to keep my m12 battery kit and not add any others!) version. I do a decent amount of 3d printer projects and the orbital sander isnt great for the small parts, and hand sanding can be brutal. I've been using a triangle head sanding attachment on a multitool but it's a real pain and doesnt do a good job, plus I haven't found a foam-backed version to protect my rounded surfaces.
Looks to be perfect for the furniture repair I do. I have wanted something small to do scratch touch-ups. This will allow me to use the 3M pads and buff out a scratch instead of feathering out a large area and re-applying clear. Huge time saver! Just wish there was something similar in the M12 line. Thanks for the review good sir 👍
I got Dewalt oscillating tool multi tool very useful 👍 👌
Harbor freight makes a 2” air orbital sander too for cheap. I’ve used mine plenty.
Wiill it clean up after me when I'm done working? Thats my biggest problem.😂 Rikon makes great stuff, I'm going to order one for sanding on my lathe to get rid of linear scratches
On Amazon there 120v headlight polishers that might work good for something like this where someone wants a plugin tool. There's always pneumatic tools if someone has a large enough compressor. Just some different options.
Matt looks good but can I ask would it not be cheaper and better to purchase a kit that chucks into a drill?? I've found a 200 pcs just on eBay for £12 so like $17 get the pad polishers sponge pads and sandpaper?? ,🏴👏👍
Do they make a smaller sanding head to get into the tight corners like you have in your guitar tray?
You're going to love the M12 detail sander😎🛠️😎🛠️😎
I do! It's awesome
@@731Woodworks I've had it for about 6 weeks now and it's a game changer💪💪💪
I do not have a CNC. That being said is there a way to rout out irregular shapes safely. Don't have template either. I am interested in making charcuterie boards with the edges similar to those trays in your video. Any directions are appreciated.
Good deal for about $70. I do have small drill driven disks from Ryobi.
I got to demo the new milwaukee detail sander. Upon first use I knew I had to have one and ordered one right away.
In mostly make small ish decorations. Now I'm making some christmas trays like stars, snowmen and Christmas trees. Been loving the milwaukee sander although it does love eating the 2AH batteries!
I can see me using the milwaukee FDSS sander a lot more than my RAS.
I want this on a M12 platform 👏
Is it not possible to get a sander bit for your CNC to sand those small parts?
I do a lot of CNC tray and dishes. If you want to have a sand free finish to the bottom of your dishes you need to do a finishing pass. Do a .05 depth with a 7% step over as a finishing pass and you will have no lines to sand out.
Checked on Amazon, out of stock. Tools Today has it on sale for $69.99. Thanks!
They make those attachments for cordless drills. Is there a benefit to that unit being specific to sanding?
I bet that's great for turning...
Looking forward to your m12 detail sander thoughts. A lot of people are swearing by this tool as if there are no flaws.
it's not an end all be all tool by any means. It has its purposes. Maybe it needs a dedicated video?
@@731Woodworks a dedicated video would be great. Looking forward to it. I hope you can really give it an unbiased review because I know a lot of m12 review videos seem to only discuss the pros of the tools with no real discussion on the limitations or the features that are lacking that I have discovered through first hand experience
About hold long does the battery last before a recharge is needed? Thanks Matt!!
Looks like it would be good for applying paste wax to the bench/tools
Haha. I was thinking the same thing with the Milwaukee battery😂😂👍
You should look into the Festool RO 90
Facts. And the M12 Polisher
Are you going to do a review of the Milwaukee sander? I would love to see the differences between the two
Yep. Comes out tomorrow
I just picked one up from Woodcraft because it was on sale.
It would be good for finishing bowls while they're on the lathe
I was thinking the same thing! Bought one after watching this primarily for finishing bowls and saving my fingertips 😁
Check out the Metabo 3 inch ROS. I have found it very powerful and useful for tight spots. A little pricey.
I just ordered the Milwaukee version.
When I saw This video I said to myself I gotta have it. I told myself I will buy it the following week when I hit the link it was sold out. I tried every other site only to find it sold out 😢. Now I check every week to see if I can buy it used or if they have them back in stock.😢😔😤
Thanks for posting about this tool. It really looks like the perfect thing to sand the little boxes I like to make. Could you do a comparison between the Rikon and the Milwaukee when you get it? I like the Rikon brand in general, but I’m curious if Milwaukee will present any clear advantages. I really appreciate your videos. Thanks again! :)
I do prefer the Milwaukee over this just because it's better built. Or at least seems to be. I like the variable speed trigger on the Milwaukee, plus you get more tool options on the M12 platform. And the triangle head design of the Milwaukee allows you to get into corners easily.
@@731Woodworks Milwaukee makes everything!Soon releasing 20 inch rims for Ford Crown Victoria Interceptor cause this is how we roll lol
Does anyone know if the batteries for this Rikon are compatible with any of the off-brand cordless wrenches on Amazon? The batteries look pretty similar.
Well, I bought the sand paper package and I use it with my cordless drill..
I purchased this sander after watching you recommend this maybe 2 months ago? (I thought it was you..)
I have used it a few times so far, and I like it so far.... I can see that I can use this more and more after I finish with my cutting board lists..
Naw wasn't me. Just got this a few weeks ago
@@731Woodworks Man, I guess I spend too much time watching CZcams Woodworking Videos and not enough time in the shop!!! Sorry about that..
@@rickpouley2857 no worries lol.
I'm like a teenager full of excitement - OMG thank you for this video... I need this for my catch all trays too! I couldn't use your link here in Canada but shockingly Amazon Canada has it and for only $129 CDN which is cheaper than I expected given usual exchange differences. This is the first time I buy something while watching the video. Merry pre-Christmas to me from 731 Woodworks!!
Check out Tools Today, linked in description now. They have it on sale. Not sure if they ship to CA?
@@731Woodworks I was going to check it out on the new site just for fun (it was $12 cheaper CDN than Amazon but I couldn't check how much shipping would have been as it appears to have sold out). Either way... the Canadian Amazon price worked out to be $89.58 USD and 8 dollars shipping (oddly no Prime for that one) so I'm still ahead of the game. I can't wait to get it in the next few days! You're the best!!!!!!
Is this better than a Dremel with sand attachments?
Cool man just went to order one and sold out of amazon
Check the ToolsToday link. They are $30 cheaper there and in stock!
I have one of those palm triangle shaped sanders, and also use the small triangle sander attachment that goes on my oscillating mulit-tool which is great for getting into smaller areas. The Rikon sander you have looks like another great tool for sanding, especially for your CNC trays. I am a little curious why you have no interest in using the Rikon, but instead went right out and purchased the Milwaukee brand. Was the Rikon really that bad? Have you used the Milwaukee and know it to be a superior tool? Thanks for the review Matt!
Looks awesome...but I'm not seeing it for sale now. Discontinued maybe? My pneumatic detail sander is a bit too aggressive for some finer sanding needed for woodwork like what you are doing here, and my 5" ros is too big. This tool is probably something I'm past due for owning lol
they've all sold out everywhere now
That would come in handy sanding bandsaw boxes...and that's E for Effort 😂
lol close enough
You might check out Woodturners Wonders for similar corded product and all sorts of pads and paper.
How many seconds does the battery last for?
I'm not a woodworker but why not use a multi tool sanding adapter?
For about $30 you can buy a right angle attachment from Dremel and a Dura-Gold 2" hook and loop variety pack from Amazon.
What's very odd to me is it doesn't come with even one piece of sandpaper. Im glad I ordered an assortment when I ordered the tool.
I can’t find this sander anywhere, someone please help! Thanks!
After watching your video I really want to buy on of these but I can not find them anywhere. Do you know where I could find one?
Sorry, they've been sold out since about 2 days after I released this video. Not sure when they expect more stock?
@@731Woodworks Thank you
Looks to be a very handy little tool, too bad battery systems are not interchangeable 👍🏻
Batteries are the printer ink-cartridges of power tools, and you cannot change my mind.
The only actual difference between the battery systems is the pin-out and extra shape added to the cells. That's it. It should all be standardized, but if that happened, manufacturers couldn't lock you into their particular ecosystem of tools.
Bosch releases a really nice tool you'd like, but you already have 10 Milwaukee tools and 20 batteries for them? Yeah, you're not getting that tool, even if it's measurably better and cheaper than the Milwaukee equivalent. Not because the tool isn't good, but because Bosch and Milwaukee (and pretty much everyone else) are deliberately making it impossible to use another brand's batteries.
Imagine how pissed you'd be, if it turned out that you couldn't use the tools you use on your Ford truck on your Dodge truck, because Ford wants to lock you into their tool ecosystem. Imagine if you couldn't use Ford tyres on your Dodge despite all the sizes being identical. You'd go on a rampage and set fire to every single Ford and Dodge office around the country.
@@MrMartinSchou hey Martin, I’ve seen a few adaptators on the internet that allow some cross contamination of different brands of tools and batteries, I have only two brands of cordless tools and intended on keeping it that way, if I can’t find what I want in ether one of these brands, I’ll get it in a corded tool or do without. Thanks for the thoughtful comment! God bless
@Martin Schou True. I remember when washing machines and bicycles all used interchangeable parts. Then wm brands had extra little shoulders or grooves or clips and bicycles have a wide range of spijes, bottom brackets, etc. Home maintenance became not worth it as you needed to invest in specialist tools and pay a premium for the part and different parts for each bike in family
Since it is not an ROS, should not cause scratches, maybe not as bad as an oscillating tool? They came oit with ROS to eliminate scratches like a spinning disk does.
Do you ever sell your mallets?
It’s currently on sale at wood craft
So they took a small orbital buffer from the automotive detail world and are selling them as a sander. It's about time.
Yeah it looks like a mix between a buffer and a di grinder
Just checked Amazon…. Sold out…
Check my other link to Tools Today, cheaper there too!
Why not a Dremel type tool with sanding or flap discs? They're even smaller and could get even even smaller places.
I wish I could find one in stock somewhere. I’m worried they have discontinued this?????
I don't think so, I think they are just way behind on stock
where can I get the multiple discs?
Amazon
I was typing a comment to chastise you for not mentioning oscillating multi tools, and there you go and mention it before I can hit “send” and look foolish. Well done.
This is a rebranded Kimo as seen on Amazon I see. $89 for that one FYI. They look identical.
Can you make me a “don’t tread on anyone” tray.
Dang… video out yesterday and “no longer available” on both sights. Bummer
I just checked ToolsToday. It's still there. Check again
