FYI for anyone acne prone looking for in depth info, I run every foundation, spf, and skincare product through COSDNA to see if it has anything high on the comedogenic and/or irritation scale. It has served me very well. For example, I used to wear MAC Face and Body, but it has polyglyceryl-3 diisostearate which is a 4 out of 5 on the comedogenic scale. Just a thought.

Also, something may not have synthetic fragrance, but it might still have naturally derived fragrance that can still cause irritation. For instance, the MAC face and body has orange peel oil which is a natural fragrance and has been shown to be potentially irritating.

It is so frustrating that SPF is included in so many foundations. They give the false impression that the foundation includes enough SPF to be worthwhile and increase the chance of irritating your skin.

i don't get that either. I personally put the concealer on my hand, a pallette or my (freshly cleaned) finger. The last one is the one I do mostly. Thanks for bringing up the idea that physical sunscreens can cause irritation. I don't think that my skin is nearly as bothered by zinc oxide as it is chemical sunscreen but it still is not very happy when I wear it and so I would rather just use it when absolutely necessary rather than as part of my everyday face products. (I virtually always wear a Sunday Afternoons hat with SPF50 when outdoors and that works much better for me in terms of protecting my facial skin from sun than any kind of sunscreen anyway.)

I'm wondering if you have tried the following foundations: Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals A Foundation, Exa High Fidelity Foundation, Vapour Soft Focus Liquid Foundation, Vapour Luminous Foundation Stick. I think those all meet your criteria and I have done pretty well with all of them. I especially like that Jane Iredale one.
I think the RMS Un-Foundation is another possibility for people who want really heavy coverage. I never choose to wear it myself, but I know someone with very sensitive skin who used it as stage makeup for ballet performances and said that it did great.
I think the Jones Road WTF also may meet your criteria, but I wouldn't choose that one if my skin was in bad shape because I think the essential oils in it are a little irritating.
I hadn't looked into the Nars one yet because it is not positioned as "clean beauty" and so I will give that one a look.

Me too! And it wasn’t just that I broke out the following day, I was fully broken out by the end of the day. I’m trying to figure out which ingredient or combination of ingredients freaked out my skin so badly. Such a bummer!

So do you have an spf you use underneath all the non-spf containing foundations?

Nars light reflecting make me break out each and everytime ! Sheer glow is much better for my skin.

Am I alone in feeling like squalene/squalane makes my otherwise normal-to-dehydrated skin feel oily and congested? I can tell when something has squalene by the way the it sits on the top of my skin feeling slippy and humid-y. Icky. And bummer, because it’s supposed to be so good for the skin. Also my skin seems to handle zinc under 20% just fine, but titanium dioxide (which is in so many powder foundations and mineral SPFs) makes me break out. And coconut oil is a hard no.

The nars foundation was instantly super irritating to me sadly. Might be niacinamide. I know talc makes me itchy and pretty sure niacinamide makes my skin burn. My sensitive skin likes cream foundations like sneaky balm the most. They usually have simple ingredients. The rose inc concealer never irritates me either. Just wanted to add my experience for all the people who get irritated easily. It can be so hard to find products.
