    I am a Christian who married into a family of non- practicing Jews. That changed when my mother-in-law remarried an Orthodox Jewish man. We were mostly respectful, so I never asked him, tho I thought it, "Why do you want to keep the wonderful news of your creative, forgiving God to yourselves. The Jews and proto-Christians both left Jerusalem when it was destroyed. The Jews and proto-Christians both struggled for 400 years, before Christianity used Constantine to gain political power. Why did the Jews just scatter and protect themselves, keeping their faith and understanding to themselves?

      theirs is an ethnoreligion that cannot bear to part from the position of theirs as the ‘chosen race’ of God in an unending covenant. orthodox christian theology sees the privilege given to the jewish people by God through the old testament as a necessary preparation to build up a nation worthy of (and at a certain historical moment) bringing christ into the world. without the jewish messianic tradition (and the context of that specific messianic context immediately preceding christ) on top of that foundational jewish monotheism and scholarly religious tradition - one so long held up even to that time of christ by merit of its ethnoreligious character and the reciprocal effect on fortifying the geographically displaced but maintained jewish national identity and religious tradition as a people through history (the fruits of that literary and juridical ethnic tradition are obvious in their preservation of such ancient sacred scripture [which doubly serves to preserve their own history in text] and maintaining system of studying the torah - a book which, as you say, is a treasure of the whole human race, and one that should be recognized as such especially by the orthodox jews who nevertheless do not concern themselves with matters of gentiles having access to such scriptures and insight they carry.) regardless, christianity does away with all that, though i do wonder how they think of this ethnic component today considering the high regard gentiles show for the jewish scripture up to the time of christ, and the human context of judea at that time (that the jewish nation was the proper cradle for the incarnation of god on earth is no small compliment, i would think, even looking at christian theology from outside)

      Jesus is not god alone as a mortal… Jesus spirit is within God the almighty and incomparable everything,not at all a separate entity and the mortal body was merely infused with gods essence for gods purpose mission as god has had express action throughout all time through various different channels and methods basically Jesus mortal body was gods avatar on earth..Jesus was a Jewish human on earth as a part of god while simultaneously existing within almighty god which is everywhere at the same time even while Jesus is walking on earth so it’s not just him he’s the lord a man no ,I would imagine god didn’t break a sweat creating Jesus for his purpose and infusing him with god sounds like something totally possible for god to do everything does maybe a tiny piece of the plan we don’t know ..god took a particular shape in the mortal realm temporarily in the shape of Jesus. And God is responsible for absolutely everything not just some things all things whichever which way it happens … Satan operates on gods time everything does…But God the almighty is the essence of everything and anything Hashem/Allah/God/Jehovah countless names is the same almighty greatness… I’m catholic I attended a catholic school and this is the message I got … you know though only god knows what’s right who’s to say we all received any and every message god has sent??? How can we be so arrogant to think we have discovered all the knowledge or even be sure that we are correct in what we think we know and what we where taught… many a King and Queen and others have had dominion over human civilization over time and has distorted in there own ways what was known to be true before them… what we can do as mere mortals is have faith in the almighty the root and essence of all…the universe and this and however many dimensions and realms that may if at all exists started and exist somehow we have a few clues maximum definitely not all the answers not even close so there can’t be a rebuttal for everything … one could study forever with whoever and should not be so arrogant to think they know it all there’s always more to learn there more information to include humans are stubborn and arrogant and will never know it all we will always learn more and still some thing will be inexplicable then you throw modern science into all this and math and astronomy biology all contradictory to religion but is it really? do we know enough to make any solid conclusions that it is or isn’t ???… Maybe the almighty is not to be understood maybe it is to be revered to be in sync with.. we’ll all find out wassup eventually I feel the information may be in any and everything just like I believe god is not only in books ,only god knows… I think god would appreciate that it’s on all of our minds and that there is interest and praise

      Barbara, please consider: Rabbi Singer has obviously studied the gospels. But either he has missed or is purposely distorting the
      SEQUENCE of TEACHING of Jesus Christ.
      Most of Jesus' ministry was about living for the SPIRITUAL KINGDOM of God (or "heaven" for those who dare not say the name). Jesus beautifully illustrated though proverbs and stories how to turn the letter of the law into the spirit of the law. The Lord's Prayer is from this period.
      In his FINAL months, Jesus started predicting his arrest, torture, death, and resurrection. He made the atonement purpose of this clear with the bread and poured wine at the Pesach meal known as the Last Supper. This has become the Christian sacrament of Communion or Eucharist.
      Atonement was PURPOSELY not part of his early teachings. Naturally it is not in the Lord's Prayer.

    Here is one great Christian theologian's thoughts on the meaning of "lead us not into temptation":
    "Scripture reveals in these words that he who has not completely forgiven those who stumble, and has not brought his heart to God free from grievance and illuminated with the light of reconciliation with his neighbor, will fail to attain the grace of blessings he has prayed for. Indeed, he will justly be handed over to temptation and to evil, so that, having retracted his judgements of other people, he may learn to purify himself of his own sins. - Maximus the Confessor, On the Lord's Prayer
    I would have to say this fits with my experience. When I have thoughts of judgement towards another, I will be quickly be overcome by temptations. A soul that has become humbled and aware of its own sins, can learn to forgive. So not all is lost when we are given over to temptation -- it is God's bitter medicine that might save us!

      @@JaJa-bf6qk Well, Isaiah was originally written in a scroll without divided chapters and verses. Do you know what all of the chapters before Isaiah 53 about? There’s danger in taking something out of context. The “suffering servant” is the nation of Israel. The servant isn’t a man, it’s a nation. Begin reading Isaiah 41, or earlier, and continue reading even in chapters past Isaiah 53. Righteous Israel will suffer for the sins of the nations. The nations will look upon righteous Jews and say they are worthless fools because they’ve rejected Christianity and that they are “smitten by God.” The righteous Jews will carry the sins of the nations. The righteous Jews know the Truth. Torah is the word of God, and Scripture says, “Torah is truth.” The Jews have preserved truth. They’d rather suffer and be crushed and burned and tortured and ripped apart and die than to turn from the truth. Being a Jew means that you’ve accepted the suffering that comes along with it. Through their strength and obedience and suffering to preserve truth and righteousness and the commandments, the nations can be healed. They’ve accepted the thousands of years of persecution done to them in the name of Jesus Christ and Christianity which teaches that Jews are blind and have a veil over their eyes and that their synagogue is of Satan. The firstborn son of God is Israel (exodus 4:22.) They are His servant. Rabbi Singer made an IMPORTANT OVERSIGHT. He has obviously studied the gospels.

They all describe the same exact thing, compare them side by side. At the final end God uproots the evil inclination from the earth (Deut 30:6) and free will as we know it will disappear and the entire Jewish people will reembrace the full observance of the Torah of Moses, exactly as is depicted in Deut30 and in the verses from Ezekiel above and in Jeremiah 31.
      You need to take a deeper look at that same chapter of Jeremiah, and ask yourself what does the Creator mean when He says "Thus said YHVH: If the heavens above could be measured, and the foundations of the earth below could be fathomed, only then would I reject all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done, declares Yhvh." Jeremiah 31:36....
      And more...
      What does the all foreseeing God then mean when He told the Jewish people when establishing the terms for the covenant, that even if the jewish people as a whole stray, that He will not abondon the covenant from His end, right here: "Yet even then, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them or spurn them so as to destroy them *or nullify My covenant with them* for I am YHVH their God, and I will remember for them 1st covenants in which I took them out of Egypt to the eyes of all the nations to be their God, I am YHVH their God." Leviticus 26:44,45.
      Or here
      "...For YHVH your God is a Merciful God, *He will not let go of you or let you perish and He will NOT forget the covenant/promise of your forefathers in which He swore to them"* Deuteronomy 4:30,31.
      Or what did He mean here:
      "...and I have said: I will not ever

      You know, I did always wonder if "free will" would go away at some point. Free will is essentially the ability to choose to do good or to do evil. If evil disappears as a choice, then only good remains. Having only one choice to choose does sort of get rid of free will. It's interesting to think about.

      Rabbi Singer is either spiritually misguided, a liar, or both. In Deuteronomy 18:15-19, God told Moses that he would raise another prophet like him, and that him the Jews to listen to. Rabbi Singer says that prophet was Joshua.
      It is likely that there in the wilderness, before Moses' death, Joshua, son of Nun was born. All Moses had to do was point the Jews to him. Also, the Jews probably understood this to mean a savior, a deliverer, like Moses was. Joshua, did not save the people from Egypt, Jesus saves men from there sins & bandage or slavery to sin, like Moses did delivering Jews from slavery in Egypt. By the way, Jesus fulfills all the Messianic prophesies in the Torah, Joshua did not.
      More can be said. But this alone shows Rabbi Singer is either misguided, a blatant liar or both. If he is wrong on Deuteronomy 18:15-19, why should he be trusted on anything else?
      It appears he does not know that Christianity is reformed Judaism. Christianity is new Covenant Judaism. Judaism of old is old Covenant Judaism.

For the truth is that whatever God does in the world is good - as it says, "Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that evil and good emanate?" This means that God is always in full control and everything is from Him, and no evil happens. Rather, our perception of an event as bad is only based on our shortsightedness and limited understanding. The truth is that what we perceive as a bad event is in essence a kindness from God, and it is such a powerful good that it cannot be openly revealed, for it cannot yet be grasped by the severely limited ability and frame of reference of our human minds (Seven Gates of Righteous Knowledge by Rabbi Weiner and Dr. Schulman, p 130).

    I had always wondered why the one prayer that Jesus himself taught as the foundational prayer, the Lord’s Prayer (as opposed to every other prayer that others taught to say in Jesus’ name), never mentioned Jesus, nor vicarious atonement, nor him as messiah, nor him as intermediary, nor any trinity, among anything else christalogical.
    I came to the conclusion that Jesus never taught those concepts, and they are a later addition to Christianity by his followers who deified Jesus in ways Jesus was likely against, and added by the Church, adding it all into the New Testament section of the Christian Bible canon, and attributed it to Jesus.
    I am convinced that Jesus himself never preached to worship Jesus, preached no trinity, preached no vicarious salvation through him or any other intermediary. Jesus must have believed he was sent by the Almighty in some divine capacity, but the deification of Jesus was not Jesus’ fault but rather the fault of his followers because they loved him so much that they saw him as a god himself, despite that likely going against Jesus’ original teachings.
    To support their own deification of Jesus, more concepts had to be invented and incorporated into Christianity which contradicted the Hebrew Scriptures that Jesus said he came to uphold. And those contradictory concepts in Christianity invented by Jesus’ followers then had to be supported by misquoting the Hebrew Bible in the New Testament, including the supposed virgin conception, etc.

      @@curly_dock that’s the thing, the Lord’s Prayer, inconspicuously doesn’t at first appearance seem to present itself as a problem of being totally contradictory to what the early followers of Jesus turned Christianity into, or indeed they would have also butchered the Lord’s Prayer to incorporate all of the christology it lacks.
      So why didn’t they change or alter the Lord’s Prayer to include all of the other later christology they invented?
      Well, probably because it’s only if you stop to really think about the Lord’s Prayer carefully that it becomes a theological problem for what Christianity was turned into (idolatry of worship of a man as a god). Those early followers of Jesus who loved him so much that they heretically turned Jesus into a god, and the early Church a little bit later when they were canonizing the Christian Bible, they missed this BECAUSE it was inconspicuous, but it’s a really big problem that was hiding in plain sight.
      The Lord’s Prayer is a surviving remnant in the Christian Bible of what Christianity was most likely like as originally preached by Jesus before it was altered and amended and distorted by the people who, traumatized after his death, retroactively made him, the previously-alive Jesus, a god in the flesh.

    It’s inline with pharisaic teaching;
    Rava said: With regard to whoever forgoes his reckonings with others for injustices done to him, the heavenly court in turn forgoes punishment for all his sins, as it is stated: “He bears sin and forgives transgression” (Micah 7:18). Whose sins does He bear? The sins of one who forgoes his reckonings with others for injustices committed against him.
    It is related that Rav Huna, son of Rav Yehoshua, became sick, and Rav Pappa went into his home to inquire about his well-being. He saw that the world was growing weak for Rav Huna, i.e., he was dying. Rav Pappa said to his attendants: Prepare his provisions [zavdata], i.e., his shrouds. In the end, Rav Huna recovered. Rav Pappa was embarrassed to go and see him, as it seemed as if he had decreed Rav Huna’s death. Rav Huna’s friends said to him: What did you see when you were lying there suspended between life and death? He said to them: Yes, it was so, I was truly close to dying, but the Holy One, Blessed be He, said to the heavenly court: Since he does not stand on his rights, i.e., he is ready to waive what is due him, you too should not be exacting with him in his judgment, as it is stated: “He bears [noseh] sin and forgives transgression.” Whose sins does He bear? The sins of one who forgoes his reckonings with others for injustices committed against him.
    (Rosh Hashanah 17)
    (Gen. 21:1:) THEN THE LORD VISITED SARAH. Let our master instruct us: If there is a quarrel between someone and his friend, how is there atonement for him on the Day of Atonement?109 Thus have our masters taught (in Yoma 8:9): FOR TRANSGRESSIONS THAT ARE BETWEEN SOMEONE AND THE OMNIPRESENT, THE DAY OF ATONEMENT ATONES. FOR < TRANSGRESSIONS > THAT ARE BETWEEN HIM AND HIS COMPANION, THE DAY OF ATONEMENT DOES NOT ATONE UNTIL HE MAKES PEACE WITH HIS COMPANION. 110 If he went to make peace, and he did not accept, what should he do? R. Jose, the son of a Damascene woman, said:111 This would be a ready sign112 for you. Every time that you show mercy to your companion, there is one showing mercy (i.e., the Omnipresent) to you. But if you do not show mercy to your companion, there is no one showing mercy to you.113 What should he do? R. Samuel ben Nahman said: Let him bring ten people and set them in a single line. Then let him say before them: My brothers, there has been a quarrel between me and such and such a person. So I went to make peace with him, but he did not accept. Immediately the Holy One sees that he has humbled himself before him, and he has mercy on him.114 Thus it is stated (in Job 33:27): LET HIM DRAW UP A LINE (YShWR)115 OF PEOPLE AND SAY: I HAVE SINNED AND PERVERTED THAT WHICH WAS RIGHT (yashar).116 What < else > is written there (in vs. 28)? SO HE REDEEMS HIS SOUL FROM GOING INTO THE PIT. It is also written (in Prov. 28:13): BUT WHOEVER CONFESSES AND FORSAKES < HIS TRANSGRESSIONS > SHALL OBTAIN MERCY. R. Judah said: The one who confesses in order to forsake < transgressions > shall obtain mercy. Now you find it to be so (in Scripture). All the days that Job was angry with his companions and his companions with him, strict justice was extended against him. Thus it is stated (in Job 30:4): BUT NOW THOSE WHO ARE YOUNGER THAN I LAUGH AT ME. He said to Eliphaz: And are you not a son of Esau?117 If your father had persisted in begging me to have him eat with my dogs, I should have refused him. (Thus Job 30:1 continues:) WHOSE FATHERS I REFUSED TO SET WITH THE DOGS OF MY FLOCK. Then his companions said: Are you the only venerable one? We also have venerable ones, as stated (in Job 15:10): (WE ALSO HAVE) [WITH US ALSO ARE] BOTH THE OLD AND THE VENERABLE, < OLDER THAN YOUR FATHER >. Then, when the Holy one appeared to them and said to them: Why are you persisting? Come and make peace with Job. Thus it is stated (in Job 42:8): NOW THEREFORE, TAKE SEVEN BULLS AND SEVEN RAMS, < GO UNTO MY SERVANT JOB, AND SACRIFICE A BURNT OFFERING FOR YOURSELVES. > THEN LET MY SERVANT JOB PRAY FOR YOU. < When the Holy One had so spoken >, they immediately went and did so. What is written there (in vs. 10)? AND THE LORD RESTORED THE FORTUNES OF JOB. When? (Ibid., cont.:) WHEN HE PRAYED FOR HIS FRIENDS. So < it was with > Abimelech (according to Gen. 20:17): THEN ABRAHAM PRAYED < UNTO GOD; AND GOD HEALED ABIMELECH >…. The Holy One said: Abraham has sought mercy for Abimelech; I will visit him. Immediately (there follows in Gen. 21:1): THEN THE LORD VISITED SARAH.

      IMPORTANT OVERSIGHT: Rabbi Singer has obviously studied the gospels.

    Likewise, the verse states, "For the Lord your God is putting you to proof, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul." A challenge refines a person and his faith, and humbles the heart, and thereby brings a person closer to God. Therefore, in truth, a test is a great benefit for a person (Seven Gates of Righteous Knowledge by Rabbi Weiner and Dr. Schulman, p 129).

    D n C 1: Hearken, O ye people of my church, saith the voice of him who dwells on high, and whose eyes are upon all men; yea, verily I say: Hearken ye people from afar; and ye that are upon the islands of the sea, listen together.
    2 For verily the voice of the Lord is unto all men, and there is none to escape; and there is no eye that shall not see, neither ear that shall not hear, neither heart that shall not be penetrated.
    3 And the rebellious shall be pierced with much sorrow; for their iniquities shall be spoken upon the housetops, and their secret acts shall be revealed.
    4 And the voice of warning shall be unto all people, by the mouths of my disciples, whom I have chosen in these last days.
    5 And they shall go forth and none shall stay them, for I the Lord have commanded them.
    6 Behold, this is mine authority, and the authority of my servants, and my preface unto the book of my commandments, which I have given them to publish unto you, O inhabitants of the earth.
    7 Wherefore, fear and tremble, O ye people, for what I the Lord have decreed in them shall be fulfilled.
    8 And verily I say unto you, that they who go forth, bearing these tidings unto the inhabitants of the earth, to them is power given to seal both on earth and in heaven, the unbelieving and rebellious;
    9 Yea, verily, to seal them up unto the day when the wrath of God shall be poured out upon the wicked without measure-
    10 Unto the day when the Lord shall come to recompense unto every man according to his work, and measure to every man according to the measure which he has measured to his fellow man.
    11 Wherefore the voice of the Lord is unto the ends of the earth, that all that will hear may hear:
    12 Prepare ye, prepare ye for that which is to come, for the Lord is nigh;
    13 And the anger of the Lord is kindled, and his sword is bathed in heaven, and it shall fall upon the inhabitants of the earth.
    14 And the arm of the Lord shall be revealed; and the day cometh that they who will not hear the voice of the Lord, neither the voice of his servants, neither give heed to the words of the prophets and apostles, shall be cut off from among the people;
    15 For they have strayed from mine ordinances, and have broken mine everlasting covenant;
    16 They seek not the Lord to establish his righteousness, but every man walketh in his own way, and after the image of his own god, whose image is in the likeness of the world, and whose substance is that of an idol, which waxeth old and shall perish in Babylon, even Babylon the great, which shall fall.
    17 Wherefore, I the Lord, knowing the calamity which should come upon the inhabitants of the earth, called upon my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and spake unto him from heaven, and gave him commandments;
    18 And also gave commandments to others, that they should proclaim these things unto the world; and all this that it might be fulfilled, which was written by the prophets-
    19 The weak things of the world shall come forth and break down the mighty and strong ones, that man should not counsel his fellow man, neither trust in the arm of flesh-
    20 But that every man might speak in the name of God the Lord, even the Savior of the world;
    21 That faith also might increase in the earth;
    22 That mine everlasting covenant might be established;
    23 That the fulness of my gospel might be proclaimed by the weak and the simple unto the ends of the world, and before kings and rulers.
    24 Behold, I am God and have spoken it; these commandments are of me, and were given unto my servants in their weakness, after the manner of their language, that they might come to understanding.
    25 And inasmuch as they erred it might be made known;
    26 And inasmuch as they sought wisdom they might be instructed;
    27 And inasmuch as they sinned they might be chastened, that they might repent;
    28 And inasmuch as they were humble they might be made strong, and blessed from on high, and receive knowledge from time to time.
    29 And after having received the record of the Nephites, yea, even my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., might have power to translate through the mercy of God, by the power of God, the Book of Mormon.
    30 And also those to whom these commandments were given, might have power to lay the foundation of this church, and to bring it forth out of obscurity and out of darkness, the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I, the Lord, am well pleased, speaking unto the church collectively and not individually-
    31 For I the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance;
    32 Nevertheless, he that repents and does the commandments of the Lord shall be forgiven;
    33 And he that repents not, from him shall be taken even the light which he has received; for my Spirit shall not always strive with man, saith the Lord of Hosts.
    34 And again, verily I say unto you, O inhabitants of the earth: I the Lord am willing to make these things known unto all flesh;
    35 For I am no respecter of persons, and will that all men shall know that the day speedily cometh; the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand, when peace shall be taken from the earth, and the devil shall have power over his own dominion.
    36 And also the Lord shall have power over his saints, and shall reign in their midst, and shall come down in judgment upon Idumea, or the world.
    37 Search these commandments, for they are true and faithful, and the prophecies and promises which are in them shall all be fulfilled.
    38 What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.
    39 For behold, and lo, the Lord is God, and the Spirit beareth record, and the record is true, and the truth abideth forever and ever. Amen.

We dont even know the authors that wrote the gospels let alone Mathew and through mistranslations of biblical narrative, its hard to find a pertinent source to authenticate most of the biblical context. If forgiveness is not for salvation but restoration, what is to be restored??? Morals?? Status?? Spirituality?? It is only as good as your interpretation. According to the Torah, we dont need to forgive others for our own salvation or restoration but through the grace of God not man, or some reincarnated being.

      Rabbi Singer made an IMPORTANT OVERSIGHT. He has obviously studied the gospels.

      And second, what do you mean : the Jews most probably understood...?
      Where in the text does it say a saviour?!
      Where does it say deliverer?!
      That's completely absurd.
      And maybe even more so when you read it Hebrew.

      And then you'll understand.
      Since he is a man, he can't be God (ask nicely and I'll gladly tell you where we learn it from), and since he didn't fulfill the messianic role, he is not the messiah.
      There is no basis to the concept of the second coming in the Old Testament.
      That's a pagan idea which was artificially added by... Again... The wishful thinking of desperate and/or dishonest people.

    a) "lead us not into temptation" does not mean our Lord leads/guide us into sin, it's an expression that asks our Father to keep us from accepting those temptations. Actually in Spanish is way better "No nos dejes caer en la tentación" "Don't let us fall into temptation"
    b) The part about forgiving trespasses you are reading more than it really says. It does not mean you are forgiven of all your sins just because you forgive others, it means that we need the capacity to forgive to understand how we are healed by forgivenes itself. It means that how are we expected to be forgiven by our Lord if we don't forgive our brother.

    The meaning of the Lord's prayer depends on the context; Jesus said, 'this is how you should pray,' meaning it was a guide as to how people should pray to God. The context here is a desire to depart from evil and the things of evil. The word 'temptation,' also has a dual meaning, it could also mean the word 'trial', of which God does test us. And we also know God can give us over to our sinful ways if we stray too far from him.
