Great tutorial. Don't apologize for going in depth. There are thousands of Blender "beginner" tutorials that are all giving the same bone-basic info. And thousands more that are crazy-advanced. What we need more of are tuts like this for "advanced beginner" So take your time and don't apologize, this is good stuff. Keep 'm coming!
Thanks Sean! Thatâs some great insight!! Iâll keep that in mind as I create more and more videos. Thanks again!
It is a great tutorial, and you went as deep as you had to.
Thanks!!
"advanced beginner" is the biggest bullshit of an expression I have read this month
MrDoboz - sadly your comment is among hundreds of bullshit comments I have read this month
Never be afraid to go in depth when you teach: people who really want to become good and not just âmehâ LOVE in depth tutorials đđ
Thanks! Iâm going back to that. The super fast stuff is great but the hate it generates... not worth it.
blenderBinge super fast stuff is ok occasionally. But trust me: people who are learning do prefer in depth, long, super detailed tutorials. These softwares are very complex after all đ
You are absolutely right! Iâm figuring out the balance point because I like to give detail while cutting out the banter đ
Your channel is perfect the way it is, don't listen to anyone but yourself. Ironically it seems to be popular advice from all the top CZcamsrs. You likely owe your already healthy subscriber base to your uniquely brief and "to-the-point" style. Even if their intentions may be good , people are here to derail you from what makes you successful. There are other CZcamsrs they can go to for something in-depth, but it doesn't have to be your thing. Personally I'm usually working against a deadline (3D is not my hobby), and I'm not going to sit through someone explaining theory or whatever. When I have time I don't mind something longer. I make ridiculously long videos myself, that aren't very popular lol. I think this video in particular was just long enough to give someone what they need to go off on their own.
Awesome reply, and thanks!! I also do 3D for a career and I favor brevity due to the crazy deadline pressure at times lol. I like being straight to the point even in videos that go over 20 minutes. I usually leave the theory for the theory videos lol! Have a great day!
Thank you! A clear and comprehensive explanation of this whole process! Much appreciated
Youâre welcome, and thank you!
I love your straight forward unedited, unapologetic teaching style! Keep up the great work!
Thanks!! I need to jump back in and do more soon!
Thank you so much. After many years, I was still linking my normal map directly into my BDSF shader without using a "Normal map" node. Now it is so much better ;).
Yeah, it really makes a difference in the way it treats the vectors, and makes things better đ. Iâm glad it helps! Thanks!
Excellent as usual. Your discipline to stick to only what needs to be included is great. You're brief, while still providing an understanding of how things work.
Thank you!! I do try đ. Now I need to eek out some free time for more videos, and just a tad bit more info on things I forgot to include in my last video lol.
One of the most useful and helpful Blender tutorials. Honestly, no one simplified how the maps in blender work as nice and understandable as you.
Thanks Benjamin! I really appreciate it and Iâm glad it helped!
So clear and straight forward explanation... Thank you
Youâre welcome. Iâm glad it comes across as clear and is helpful đ. Thanks!!
This was one of the highest quality tutorials I've seen. Thank you so much.
Thank you!!!
Yes finally! A tutorial that works! Watched like 5 tutorials on the same subject and for some reason they did not work for me, couldn't figure out why. THANK YOU!
Iâm really happy to hear that. Iâm glad I could help đ. Thank you!!
the best tutorial ! no weird accent, straight to the point, easy step by step. And you have a nice voice!
Thank you very much! đ
This was the best tutorial on applying PBR materials in Blender I've ever watched. Thank you so much for it!
Thanks Guz, and youâre welcome đ
finally, someone who actually knows what they're doing with the bump maps.
Lol! Thanks haha!
Thank you for the tutorial. A couple of comments: 1) A normal map and a height map are going to both be generated from the same data-- they're just different ways of getting from the original (possibly, an actual mesh) to your normal. You don't want to be using both, just one or the other, or else you're double dipping. 2) If you're using tangent space normal maps, then what works on a default plane isn't necessarily what works on a different mesh (which is then going to have different UV tangents.) I'm not really sure why I see so many texture packs distributed with these nearly useless normal maps that are artifact-free only for default planes. If you have a high quality (ie, not a jpg) displacement or bump map, and you're not just trying to render a default plane, I'd recommend using the bump over using the normal map. Yes, there are magnification artifacts when using bump; best is to bake the bump to your own mesh's tangents as a normal map, which is also a good way of seeing how that differs from using the normal map designed for a default plane. (Although really, to see this, all you have to do is notice how the normals change when you rotate your UV map 90 degrees.)
That was fantastic. You helped a noob like myself with my first successful use of nodes and materials, and I actually understand it now.
Thanks for all you do to help the inner artists in each of us, better express ourselves in Blender.
Thatâs awesome Dan! Iâm very happy that I could help! Now go create the amazing!
Yay for a realistic looking bump/displacement texture, finally! The light is on in my head, thank you!!
Youâre welcome!
Finally, you don't know how many tutorials I looked at until I found the one I needed... YOURS. Thank you very much.
Iâm very happy to be able to help đ. Thanks!
Yeah, I tend to click shorter videos, but then ended up wasting more time than if I had clicked this longer video,
Thatâs cool. I have both but have been trying to find a middle ground. Thanks!!
Appreciate how you explained the alternate names for things. The different textures have differing names and it can get very confusing for beginners. Thank you
Youâre welcome đ. I need to get back to these.
I've been trying to find a tutorial on using displacement textures, but you did more by giving an overview of the other textures like hight and normal. using displacement maps in blender. It was a good video length, too. Thanks a lot!
Great tutorial!! this is the only tutorial about displacement I understand, straight forward to the point and useful
Thank you! Iâm glad to hear that and happy it helps đ
This was an amazing tutorial.
Thanks!!
I might have commented on this tutorial before. But, I went through it again and the examples I exported came out pretty good this time around. There is some hope. Thanks!
I like to think that there is always hope đ. Thank you!!
The non-color on the normals texture, finally, the answer I was looking for!
Awesome!!
Your tutorial on PBR and Displacement is the best!
Thank you!!
Thanks for simplifying it. Really useful.
Youâre very welcome đ
BRUTALITY WINS
It sometimes does.
I'm familiar with 2.79, but when I got to PBR in my project in 2.8 I was stumped!! Thanks! :)
Youâre welcome! đđ
thank you! you helped clarify some of this confusing process where others haven't
Iâm happy that it helped you. Thanks!
This was very helpful thank you! Now I finally understand these nodes to texture
Excellent! Iâm glad to hear that đ. Thanks!
Just what I was looking for, Excellent!
Iâm happy it helps đ
Dude I saw the criticism you got for doing all of this super fast, but honestly for me, I needed exactly a tutorial like this which is to the point and really specific. Thanks mate, appreciate the help.
Thanks! I always get criticism, but I keep going lol. I bounce back and forth between fast videos and slow ones. It always comes down to how much free time I have and itâs not much lately haha!
@@KevBinge At the end of the day, you gotta prioritize yourself instead of the demands of the masses, cz believe me, they never end!
Thank you SO much i looked for a thousand of these tutorials and found nothing, so i gave up. Than i saw this video and lit up :D Thanks for helping people and don't be sorry for going into depth.
Youâre welcome đđ
@@KevBinge highlited comment, sheeesh
Thank you!! Finally understand the basics of pbrs
Awesome Shana!!
Great texture video. This is actually the first one I have found with such great detailed instruction thank you.
Iâm very happy to hear that. Thanks!!
After many Blender tutorial videos, I found you, thank you so much for this piece of didactic material, it's the best.
Youâre very welcome đ
Very in-depth. Thank you.
Youâre welcome, thanks đ
Thank you for your explanation! I needed this tutorial to understand how displacement works.
Glad I could help!
Super tutorial !! I took a long time to dissect it in French. It goes to the basics. It's great !
Thank you very much ;-)
My French is horrible, but itâs a wonderful language and rich culture as well. Thanks, and Iâm glad it helped!
Thanks so much! It did end up helping having prior knowledge but I think even a beginner could do this cause you went over it briefly but also explained exactly what we needed :)
Youâre welcome! đ. Thanks!
thank you! this was the exact tutorial I needed (and the exact level of explanation)! Perfection.
hey pal !!! I connected the hight image with the normal map and bump to the output (displacement input) and works with eeve too (V2.9), it looks less sharp!! Sorry for my poor English
I'm a noob, but this was the best tutorial for textures and displacement I've seen. Thank you a lot!
Thatâs great to hear Emily! Youâre welcome đ
Great tutorial. I am fairly new to Blender and been wondering how to use a bump/displacement map that matches the specific texture/UV that I created for a project. This video clearly explains it. Thanks mate.
Awesome!! Youâre welcome đ
Loved this tutorial! simple and straight to the point ! thank you! subbed
Awesome!! Welcome aboard, and thanks!!

Thank You. very easy to understand. Good Job
Thank you!!
Thank you for this video, and explaining how things work and for not being lightening fast which gets frustrating trying to keep up with some. I am using the nodes for now but good to know there are more than one way to get great results with bump mapping.
Youâre welcome! I have a few fast videos but most are a nice and followable pace. Iâm glad it helps! đ

@@KevBinge I used it in my most recent render and it worked perfectly and looked amazing! Thanks again!
This helped a lot. I've always kept my models texture-less in fear of messing them up.
Fear no more. đ
