  • Tangmere in charge today of the second Winter Cumbrian Mountain express, starting in Manchester heading up the WCML to Carlisle and returning via the S&C line later . Today more delays for 34067 as it got delayed leaving Carnforth arriving twenty down at Carlisle . On the return it set of 50 late from Carlisle and arriving at Hellifield the steam came off and was replaced with 47815 Great Western and 57313 T&T, took an hour to swap locos and it was near dark as i saw the steam heading back to carnforth, yes i was in the wrong field , all in all not to bad day, thanks for watching .

      I had seen the 47 move on RTT and thought i had got ahead of it but after waiting for five mins i decided to go to the junction and it was waiting there, i think it caught everyone by surprise the steam coming of at Hellifield , cheers Steve .

    Some fantastic footage regardless of the disruption, would've seen this myself if it didn't clash with the East Lancs Diesel Gala

    some good catches there Steve. Tangmere was certainly throwing out the smoke. At one point WCR were going to send the 47 to Carlisle which might have delayed things even further.

    Nice one Steve, much improved condition but issues causing another delay, we’re your first two shots at the Milnthorpe trading estate, sadly the delay played havoc with the light on the Hellifield departures, cheers👍

      Thanks Nige, yes Milnthorpe old station, the second cam was right side of the light when i set up but had moved round to the other side, not happy with my 1st shot as a bit shakey, shame about the issues again today, third time lucky 🤞cheers Steve . 👍

    Nicely filmed Steve cant understand what the delay was at Canforth on the way up and did not expect it to come off at Hellifield where i filmed the change? Brian

    • @stephenbrass1808
      @stephenbrass1808  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks Brian, hope you are well, heard it took time to take the steam off at carnforth to water and coal up, and lok water pressure on the return, but don't know if ither is true 🤔

    • @highpeaklad
      @highpeaklad Před 4 měsíci

      On the train we were told low water pressure during refilling at Carnforth caused the delay.

    Is the diesel on the back helping or is it just being pulled along

    • @stephenbrass1808
      @stephenbrass1808  Před 4 měsíci

      Well Graham, its definitely helping at that speed, but the diesel is reguired for shunting etc, cheers .

    • @stephenbrass1808
      @stephenbrass1808  Před 5 měsíci

      No dought if you like the spamcams you will be seeing more of it than normal for a while, 34037 was doing the majority of the work on Shap bank .

  • @railwaymechanicalengineer4587

    A FARCICAL CON !!!
    You pay a lot of money for a supposed "Steam train ride" only to find they have added a DIESEL loco to the train, which quite clearly is doing a good 50% OF THE WORK as you can hear the diesel roaring past the camera!!! So just when life gets interesting going up hills like Shap with a steam loco, where the engine would have to work hard and give out a thunderous continuous roar, with huge smoke effects. The Diesel provides most of the power. So the steam loco has to do little work, and can almost saunter up the Hill. Without the normal grand smoke & sounds effects, you would have seen on this gradient in steam days. It also means that professional train timers cannot time the train & work out how much power the steam loco is exerting, or exact speeds over any quarter mile section. Indeed putting a heavy vehicle on the rear of a train (unless banking on gradients) was forbidden in BR days, because its DANGEROUS. So I certainly would never waste my money on such a Farcical CON.
    Much better in Germany were steam excursions don't have Diesels attached, and as seen on a number of occasions have reached speeds approaching a 100mph. Indeed the 02.0201 Pacific has reached 106mph in preservation (it has achieved speeds as high as 113.3mph in East German Railways service in the 1960's) It also has the largest driving wheels fitted to ANY Pacific of 7ft 6in. NOTE: I began Driving steam back in the 1970's before becoming a Qualified Locomotive Mechanical Engineer, & I've worked for many Railways around the World.

      Thanks very much for your interesting comment, i like fellow enthusiasts are all to aware of the situation now, with diesels pushing partly for the time restraint on running on busy main lines, shunting and some times heating and lighting . It is not the same to watch now as it was and many people have stopped going on the tours for the reason you said, me i don't do so many now as you cannot go near the windows in the corridoors even with the health and saftey going way overboard now, thanks Steve . 👍
