SR 34067 Tangmere Takes a Maroon Rake over Shap on the WCME 27/1/24.

- SR 34067 Tangmere would be at the helm of the 1st Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express from London Euston to Carlisle via the West Coast Mainline over Shap .This would be the first tour operated by West Coast since ORR stopped the use of non Central door locking stock but thankfully West Coast had a set of MK2 coaches aircon with CDL already fitted .The weather forecast was showing overcast for all day but thankfully we struck lucky so we first see 34067 with 11 Maroon coaches at a wet Shap Wells and Kirkby Stephen on the return leg .Thanks to Nige for the lift and company today.Sadly the tour was running late after leaving Euston some 49 minutes or so late .

Great video as usual! On the return, we were over 3 hours late leaving Preston (points failure), and didn't make it in time to get passed the planned NR line block at Stafford. The tour therefore had to be terminated at Crewe, and we were all put on coaches to our final destinations. Very, very late back as you can imagine!

End of December '67 I climbed up that signal in the last shot to clear the snow from the glasses to do the signalman a favour after they'd been obscured. Me and a mate were on our way to Tebay overnight to see off the last of the Tebay bankers and we stopped off at Kirkby Stephen to dust the snow and ice off us (we were on my mate's scooter). We had a chat with the signalman in the old box a little further towards the station, and he invited us in to warm up. We finished up staying the night. Top Bloke! :)

Nice bit of filming . The weather gives it an other worldly feel , I remember being in the middle of Woking junction on a foggy night doing a juice rail job with the local ganger, a steam train came out of the clag and we both nearly had a fit , came past us like a glowing ghost of better times .

Thanks David, the last shot wasn’t doable with the big tree that was next to the signal but I noticed it had been removed so that was a bonus as it opens up a new spot 👍
First class as always Steve. Love the sound of a spam can. Great that WCR managed to overcome the door issue just a shame the day was spoilt by late running and the weather but at least the steam special season has got off to a start 🤓.

Another great video Steve in what looks like difficult weather conditions, I planned to go to Shap but when I saw the weather when I arrived at the summit, I turned around and headed closer to home where it was forecasted to be better.

Judging from the excessive exhaust (which seems normal with West Countries) there’s a massive gulf in steaming capabilities between these and an A4. Nonetheless, good to see any steamer on the main lines with or without diesel backup.

Thanks Ryan, my main camera is the Canon Legria G40 and I also use a Panasonic X900 . I have external Rode video mics in Rode blimps for better sound quality.

Poxy Diesel spoils it if I were a paying passenger I would demand a refund !
@@meanwhileme4128Fair point but the diesel was required to power the central door locks and the aircon sadly and as it happened the punters were refunded due to a long delay due to a point failure at Preston.
these diesel claims are getting more dumber and dumber
