Kunihiko Bando's JZZ30 Soarer Rebuild - The RSC300 Part 1 - Shop Visit

- After making it into Tsukuba's top 5 fastest drivers with a TC2000 time of 52.454, Kunihiko Bando had not been able to best that time set in December of 2019. So after the 2021 season, he made the difficult decision to scrap his current JZZ30 and begin work on a new build. After 2 long years of rebuilding the machine from an entirely different chassis, he is finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
I visited Bando's workshop in Ibaraki a few weeks ago to see the new car, and document the car towards the end of the build before we see it fully assembled and on the track for its first shakedown. The car was built to the WTAC regulations as Bando plans to bring the car to Sydney once again after getting the car dialed in here in Japan. While the Soarer retains the same engine built by AutoBahn, the rest of the build is almost entirely new.
The car's initial shakedown took place last week at Hiro Sinoi Circuit and went without issue. Part 2 of this cars rebuild is planned for next week, after we accompany Bando and the team to Motegi for full-power testing.

Full carbon body, engine shifted back, cage integrated to the shock towers, side exit exhaust, bosch ABS, sequential trans. The great thing is that there's so many of these guys over there building to this level. Love Japanese Time Attack!
Thats not even a soarer anymore but i still like what they are doing 😂😂😂
I can't explain how much I love Japanese time attack
I second that!
I love that he’s keeping the 2JZ and going as crazy as possible. The build quality is insane and the fact that he mimicked the early 2000’s style roll cage from JGTC where they would purposefully make the cage tight and low to lower the center of gravity even further.
Yeah, exactly. The roof and upper body weighs next to nothing, no real purpose other than to retain the cars natural body lines
Can't wait to see this car back in Sydney for WTAC. I hope to also have my JZA80 Supra back at WTAC after a 10 year Hiatus!
It seems I can't participate because it's against the rules. Your voice will lead you to WTAC. Please provide some support. From Bando
An absolutely incredible machine!! Mind blowing amount of engineering and fabrication. Is there any info as to why a LHD config was chosen?
Can't wait for part 2. This build is so sick. Never seen a build to this level.
This guy is a JZZ30 hero
Making cars look like works of art.
One of the craziest builds i've ever seen. Looks like a factory race car!
Wouldnt have thought the engine could be moved back that far with the original firewall needing to remain intact for wtac. I assume to go this crazy though it wouldve all had to be approved beforehand. New car is wild!
the chassis (b) clause is pretty vague for modification, which is odd because (a) is 'the original firewall must remain'. There is also the grandfather clause that would possibly allow it for Bando
@@NaritaDogfight yeah ultimately if Ian/WTAC team say it's okay then it's okay. I know a few complained about ferras' non compliant car last year but in the end the event approved him. Hopefully this car makes it here this year. Looks amazing
@@toddxhiggins haha yeah, a clause like that sort of contradicts the point of class rules in the first place
We will not be able to participate in WTAC2024. Support like yours keeps us going to WTAC. Send your many voices to WTAC! From Bando
Que c'est beau ❤❤❤ merci de nous faire voir ça
Looking amazing. So much work into it.
Thank you for these detailed closer looks
my pleasure, part 2 will be super fun
@@NaritaDogfight Cannot wait
as a long time Lexus sc300 fan this build looks amazing ❤❤😎👍
😍 thank you very much !
Most insane build I've ever seen, i love it!
Quelle travaille extraordinaire ❤
Wow amazing to the top👌👌👌
From Toyota Soarer to Lexus SC300, if you know what I mean😎😎 Can't wait to see Bando-san to pilot this absolute unit!
"What side is the steering wheel?"
Thise front fenders are really something 🙆♂️
Do you know if the steering position shifted to the left side of the car so the side exit exhaust could be routed through the right side of the cabin, or did this chassis start out as a left hand drive Lexus SC?
Yeah, prioritize exhaust efficiency. Bando says, 'I will sit anywhere to make the car go faster.'
hahaha if that's true, he really must have gotten the weight distribution right. Also LHD would be an advantage on an anti clockwise circuit like SMP
could you ask them how many times they’ve hit their heads on the cage while working on the interior.
I can't count them. It was difficult to maintain my position while welding. Thank you for understanding.
From Bando
I thought he replaced the whole car with a GTR of some kind, or was that not his or is my memory off?
Bando was hired to build/drive the R33, but does not own it
Bro..
His front brake discs are the wrong way round.
Is it using a factory JZZ30 front subframe? Not a choice I would have made if going this far with the rest of the car.
It's built to a specific rule class
@@NaritaDogfight I guess that's an Attack series thing then, since WTAC Pro is free in suspension design?
@@Thee_Snow_Wolf not Attack, they built it to WTAC Pro Am class rules
@@NaritaDogfight I'd understand if retaining the front subframe was done for simplicity, since the Pro Am also are completely free on geometry and placement
My production concept was to assemble it by myself. It was difficult for me to create pushrods and new designs. It also required a huge amount of money.
From Bando
Cool car but looks like a GE to me. (GE-T)
Only the cylinder head uses a GE engine. GE engines have superior exhaust efficiency.
These guys aren’t playing around! Imagine these guys come down to the US and compete🫠
Our team is serious about time attack!haha How can I time attack in America? From Bando
