Islanders is a charming, minimalist city builder made by three game design students. I bought it for $5 but it has eaten 150 hours of my life, so you decide if that was a good investment or a huge mistake.

Having just discovered this game I'm so happy that people like you have taken such a shine to it and make more advanced content. It's such a cool little indie game and I knew its simplicity could turn into depth.
At the one hour mark, the city looks so well put together that you could integrate it in a game, or rpg with no problem, or write a story about it, and create lore around the city
