    "I do not want to bring this uncontrollable aircraft back over the ground and have it fall on people in their houses. We will stay out over the water and if this airplane comes apart, we will be in the ocean". Now that's what I call a captain.

    Those pilots must have been exhausted after that. They should have been taken off to rest and debrief, instead of immediately flying again.

      The problem with that is that the airline just doesn't have personnel ready to take over in any particular Location. So even after a long day you may have to take the airplane further at least one more leg to get it someplace. It's all based on Prescribed duty limits.

      @@neatstuff1988and that’s particularly true of budget airlines, who due to their cheaper flights, don’t have “on call” staff ready to take over.

    Love your videos, and the way you present these incidents. I've watched them all.
    Just a very minor suggestion: Perhaps you could get the actors to spend a few minutes listening to ATC recordings so they can get a feel for the way pilots and ATC usually speak? They tend to maintain a strong professional demeanor even in the most dire situations, so hearing the ATC sounding panicked, and the captain using a very dramatic tone for everything can be a bit distracting. (This is of course a problem in TV series like Mayday too, I'm not specifically singling you out).
    And specifically writing out correct phraseology like "Runway two four" so the ATC doesn't say "twenty-four" might help too.

    I think what I find remarkable is that the Captain had already played the crash scenario over a few times in his head but still had the professional demeanor to keep that rising fear under control and work the problem. Panic will kill you as we’ve seen in other episodes where the pilots lose their composure and do rash things. This crew was awesome.

    And I doubt that any other channel would have included the nugget of the impatient passenger.

    Thanks for all your good work.

  • @shenzo2000
    @shenzo2000 Před rokem +9

    another awesome video....I literally can't wait for the next one. The way you use Air traffic control dialogue with computer generated accents is the best amongst all the content that's presented on CZcams, it really puts you in the seat of the pilots far more effectively than the commentator or presenter doing the voices (Green Dot Aviation, mentor Pilot) your scripting of the events also written very effectively with no unnecessary information. My number one aviation channel on CZcams, keep up the amazing work! to comment briefly about the content, just makes you appreciate the cool heads required to be pilots, especially in life threatening scenarios, you have to have the most positive mindset even in the face of potential disaster. I don't know how you actually train for that, given the simulator is just a simulator, outstanding work all round! As for the grumpy passenger (and every grumpy passenger for that matter) sit back, relax and simply marvel at the fact you sat in a seat in the sky and had to do nothing, being late is your own fault for not factoring in a buffer of time, always (where possible) factor in a buffer of time for potential delays out of your control.

    A minor note about the force diagram, the thrust is at the exhaust of the engine not the inlet. The L-1011 has an S-duct so the inlet is above the body but the exhaust is more in line with it.

    • @andreypetrov4868
      @andreypetrov4868 Před rokem +1

      Don't want to look like a smart @ss but my understanding is that when it comes to turbofan engines thrust isn't generated by neither inlet nor exhaust as those are just technological openings. Please correct me if I'm wrong but thrust is generated in combustion compartment and by turbine blades (and a bit by a compressor). Former is located closer to aft but latter is closer to the front part of a turbine. Anyway as they are all sitting above centre of gravity they have pretty much effect on the aircraft.

  • @moiraatkinson
    @moiraatkinson Před rokem +4

    That note shouldn’t have been given to the flight crew! It should have been given to someone on the ground who could have explained exactly why the so called “screwing around” happened, before it was shoved down the passenger’s throat along with one from the airline, telling the passenger they would never fly that airline again! They should then have sent her to some seedy hotel and in the morning sent her by bus to her destination!

    Pretty sure if they had needed to lose some weight they should have jettisoned that passenger. No professional pilot “screws around” with his plane for the hell of it. If something like that happened he should have weighed the delay against death.
