    Background Information: OSP required 3 full circuits of the rink to the same music. The theme for 1982 was the Blues - Torvill and Dean chose the slowest tempo available, Larry Adler's Summertime. This was the first 6.0 they received at an international ISU competition (first 6.0 was at 1979 British Championship)
    Commentator: Alan Weeks

    Hypnotic. No matter whether you watched this in 1982 or 2022 it was then, and remains now, absolutely hypnotic.

    I honestly think this is the greatest OSP that this team ever did. I know their paso doble is more famous and more celebrated. But I personally preferred this dance. Such stunningly good edges. Everything looked like one continuous movement.

    Harmony, romance, and sensuousness. These two achieve it all.

      I saw them live when they came to Australia. Have always loved watching them. They just fit together like a glove. No one has ever come near to them in ice dancing.

    Thank you so much for this. One of my favourite T&D routines and a revelation at the time of what Ice dance could aspire to.

    THANK you so much for this. My other channel (D D Jay) has quite a few Torvill and Dean uploads but I did not have this from the Euros in full. This OSP is utterly hypnotic. I read somewhere that this was the absolute slowest tempo competitors were allowed, which makes the holding and switching of deep edges and dance holds all the more difficult to maintain. Thank you again!

    First saw them at the British Ice Dance Championships in November 1977 when they came third behind Thompson/Maxwell and Bardsell/Foster. The first thing I noticed about Torvill & Dean was their marvellous depth of edge, I don't think I'd seen any previous skaters (apart from in compulsory figures obviously) achieve such deep edges.

      Can you explain deep edge for us outsiders?

    • @npe1
      @npe1 Před 3 lety +9

      @@MaiseDoat Yes of course. A skating blade has two edges, an inside edge and an outside edge. If you looked lengthways down a blade you will see it has a hollow running down its length and on each side of the hollow there are the two edges. When a skater gets their blades sharpened what happens is the hollow is renewed as constant use over a few months can make the blades less sharp and they don't grip the ice so well. A mark of a good skater is to see those edges being used deeply rather than using what we call a 'flat' - skating on both edges at the same time. You can tell if edges are nice and deep by the lean a skater has into either edge and by the shape or pattern each move makes on the ice.
