O'Carolan - a slow tune, a cheerful tune, and another slow tune

  • The tunes are Cremonea, Planxty Fanny Power and Dr. John Stafford (Carolan's Receipt).
    The violin here is by Alfred Moritz of Dresden and is probably about 120/130 years old. These violins were made under the 'Excelsior' brand (which is on the label) and were very popular in their time. Moritz had an agency in London, so it is not uncommon to come across these violins here. This one has not been played for many years and is just beginning to regain its voice.
