Thank you for these videos. My husband passed, unexpectedly, before he could even start a new project for our sons. The wood arrived the day after he passed and I know what he was planning in a general sense. I'm going to start and finish the project but I have a huge learning curve to overcome. These videos are a really big help!

Hey there. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Picking up a tool and continuing what your husband was going to do could be no higher honor. I am happy the videos will be here as a reference for you. I wish you the very best of luck. -Matt

I draw with charcoals and you're 100% right about confidence. In case it's still hard for people to have confidence in themselves, just use this little mind trick. Pick a project that looks extremely difficult that you'd be super proud of if you were able to do it and get to it. It's a win/win as long as you attempt a very difficult piece. If you don't do a perfect job, everyone will still be super impressed because they can see just how difficult it is and how well you still did. No one expected you to be able to do as good as you did. On the other hand, if you do a great job, you still win but then you'll see just what you're capable of and that project will become a keepsake you'll never part with.

Just getting started myself after past year I just want to be able to create from home . Mostly carved images , lettering, and small toys maybe rings. Im starting with Tacklife and small whittling kick. Unfortunately Tacklife has some form of power issue when holding up. An I was warned about dust as I'm working in small room (only room left 😅). I'm absolute beginner never really bought tools in my life unless you count paint and big hammer. So I've mostly been try to work on my rough sketches and get small whittling cuts down. Long winded way saying thank you be interested in future content. Good luck all beginners 🙏☮️

I really liked your last tip to “believe in yourself.” I just finished my first wood carving project - a Christmas present for my wife - and I was really skeptical if I would be able to do what I wanted to do, let alone finish it in time for Christmas. So I got my siblings in on the process and would send them pictures of my progress so they could help me stay motivated. I’m proud to say that I did finish it and I think it looks pretty good for my first project. I can’t wait to do more!

Ohhhh! Thank you!!! #1 Believe in Yourself!! I was talking to the owner of a gallery where I have sold many of my art pieces. He said to me: Start wood carving on your work. I said, "I don't know how." He said, "Learn how and start doing it. Why haven't you?" I said, "I'm afraid I'll cut my fingers (joking)." He said, "Get gloves. Start now." You inspired me! Thank you again!

So glad I found your channel! I'm planning a project for a wedding gift to my soon-to-be husband. He's great with tools, especially the dremel. I, however, have no experience. So I thought this project would surprise and impress him. Luckily a family friend of ours is gonna help and supervise me.

You, kind person, are delightful. I really appreciate that your number one tip is: Believe in yourself. I appreciate the way you informed us you were going to be vulnerable with us for a moment. I apologize if that last sentence is strange, but the lack of vulnerability that is displayed these days means more and more younger people and young adults do not really know what it means to be vulnerable or what that looks like. It takes much courage and strength to grant others' access to our hopes, dreams, insecurities, weaknesses and strengths. Thank you for your thoughtfulness! Keep making these amazing tutorials, and I'll be confident enough to transition from wood burning to carving in no time :)

Your #1 tip is so very true! I was tasked with building a large draw leaf dining table for my in-laws. I've never even heard of that style before and one thing I learned from that is take the project in steps and believe in your skills to build your confidence so you can build upon your existing skill set. Yes i liked #1 best. For me it is not a "I think I can't" but more a " I don't know how"!
So since i am semi retired and want to work with wood on all sorts of projects...i just don't know how, so videos made by Cornelius teach me the HOW! Back in the mid '70s girls were not allowed to take wood shop classes. Now that I am semi retired, i am teaching myself how to use wood crafting tools. Today my project to use a torch to make a rustic wooden USA flag. The only tool i am actually fearful of is the a Table Saw, the potential of kick back and i have seen first hand seasoned professionals run their hand/fingers over the table blade...is serious business.

    Lotting...
I was born in Tennessee, lived in North Carolina, Georgia, and South Carolina, and now Virginia. I have never heard “lotting” before. I actually thought you were talking about some carving technique when you said that. 😂 I was stumped until it dawned on me you were talking about the lights! I know we have our own distinct vocabulary here in the south but that was a new one! I love it truly!
I’m new to woodworking in general but just got a dremel 4300. I’m primarily interested in doing decorative inlays and possibly some minor furniture carving (small table legs, corbels , etc) and I’m unsure of what all I can do with the rotary alone. I like your videos and definitely look forward to seeing what else you have to share!
I hope you take what I said to be as light hearted as I meant it!

Hahaha! You’re fine, I get it all the time lol. It’s my thick Arkansas accent! So glad you found the video helpful! With what you are wanting to do I’d say a good rotary tool should serve you well! I’ll be here if you need any help! Just make sure you have good “lotting”! Haha

Great tips! Just finished my first wood carving sign. That video will be out christmas night. How do you get more clean carves on soft wood? Was using new bur bits but still frayed the fibers but sanding got rid of it.

Glad you enjoyed it! A mixture of light passes with your flex shaft tool then multiple passes with sandpaper
