  • The Afrikaans sentence structure is explained wit the acronym STOMPI which comprises the subject, time, object, manner, place and infinitive. It might seem complicated but compared to other languages, Afrikaans has one of the easiest sentence structures to master.
Not all these elements need to be in a Afrikaans sentence. Time, manner and so on can be left out of a simple Afrikaans sentence. If you struggle, write down STOMPI and as the questions who, when, what, how, where and to do what to make sure you have the word order of the Afrikaans sentence is correct. The formula applies to all sentences in Afrikaans. A proper Afrikaans sentence always has a Subject and a verb. Once again, remember the golden rule of the verb in Afrikaans that the verb always comes next.

Good evening. I have written step by step all this sentence in Google Translator to understand it. I think I have understood the STOMPI formula. Greetings from Brazil and have a nice 2024.

I learned a lot of reading and writing Afrikaans on OFM Radio's chatroom, but South African radio stations have now done away with their chatrooms. I now listen to Radio Sonder Grense on the Internet, to hear how Afrikaans sounds.
