@Forza Horizon 4 Gamer Mine is that even if you changed and said I'm sorry, soon it will resurface again and you will have to beg again to a totally new audience, and because it resurfaced again, anyone not in the loop might catch it again as if was something new, and this time is worse because more people are jaded against you, then a third time again until you have to cancel yourself.

    • @jfolz
      @jfolz Před 3 lety +41

The outrage can lack some nuance, but let's be real: you have no idea who the creators you follow actually are. And one way people change if they're in the business long enough is that they wise up. You only know what they allow you to know. Those early "edgy" years are probably the closest you can get to their actual personality.
As far as I can tell a "cancellation" is mostly temporary. Even people whose "cancellation" blew up so much that mainstream media reported about it just bounce back after a while. But maybe I just don't know the right examples. Most of the drama seems to be happening outside of my bubble. Searching around a bit it seems to be a result of fierce competition among CZcamsrs or certifiably actual questionable behavior. Unless you fix humans or remove competition from the platform "cancel culture" will not go away.

Accountability is not the same as Cancel Culture and there is no justification for mass online hate mobs.
Being inconsiderate and offending ppl by proxy when not addressing them directly isn’t a crime, nor is it in anyway hurting someone’s proportionate to ruining someone’s livelihood...

That's to say nothing of whether or not the cancelling is justified but I think you see my point. If you're trying to form partnerships you want them to focus on the last three years. 15+ years of history just invites a muddy and unfocused conversation that doesn't contribute anything.

I'm still waiting for that mysterious cancel culture mob that supposedly exists and comes after people for things they've said years ago.
All recent major cases of someone getting 'cancelled' was either sexual harassment or someone's *current* opinion being shit. I've never actually seen a case where people are getting 'cancelled' by a significant number of people over years old comments that they'd clearly no longer agree with.

I use to watch LMG content more when I was in college and since then I've fallen off the wayside but I revisit every once in a while to see how things are going. Its not often that you get insight into who a content creator really is, but seeing Linus' face after he finished recounting the trouble he has had on social media, you can really see that he is just a good guy. All he wants to do is make good content support his family and employees and that in my own opinion the most sinister face to cancel culture is that you have such a good hearted person like Linus that now needs to worry him self with what he filmed ages ago because people cant see the person for who they really are. you probably will never read this Linus but I hope that you keep doing what you are doing. Also I get why someone would want to delete content that could cancel them as it can effect your career quite a bit unfortunately. The problem is there’s no way to prove you’ve changed/grown to these people. You delete content it looks suspicious and if someone has it saved it’s going to blow up, you leave it up and people will jump on the smallest thing you do currently and point to the past as back up. We don't judge people by their intent because we can't know that we judge people by their actions because that's all we had to go on. Whilst I'll agree that we do need to engage with these issues more charitably we can't judge people by what we think their intent was. Intent is how we view ourselves no one else can see that and we cant trust our intent to tell us if we are doing good or bad actions. Id hazard a guess that for the vast majority of the men who get caught up in sexual scandals, they don't have particularly nefarious thoughts but their actions are very much nefarious. Ideas such as getting a girl drunk doing everything you can to convince her to come back to your place to "watch a movie" all of which serve to put a girl in a position where it's hard to say no. But that's not the though process in the man's mind they're just doing what "works". It's hard man

We absolutely judge people based on intent though. That's literally the difference between manslaughter and murder.
You still get punished for your shitty actions even though you didn't mean to, but if it can be proven you did it intentionally it's a lot worse.

@@fridrik6 but in that case physical evidence exists which can prove your intent. That's a lot harder in cases of sexual harrassment and things you have said.

@@PhaythGaming well the thing is freedom of speech is only protected in a legal sense. If you say and do things that people (be it individuals or corporations) might not agree with, it's totally reasonable for you to be critized for and potentially face backlash

We need to start cancelling the cancellers.
I am tired of a small but manipulative & loud group of people trying to take everyone hostage and controll everyone else's lives and turning the world into this sterile bland corporate nonsense.

  • @totallynotthebio-lizard7631

Dude, Twitter canceling people is like buying an NFT because you think it will make you rich.
It only works if the other person believes the lie.

There's a song by swedish punk band Dia Psalma called "Tro rätt, tro fel" (Think right, think wrong) that tackles a similar issue, despite the song being written in the early 90's. It has some interesting lyrics.
