Guy Garvey is an absolute national treasure. Brilliantly talented, but also very funny and down to earth. Can listen to Elbow all day everyday. Great reaction. Highly recommend ‘Great Expectations’

Great review! Lucky enough to see Elbow live a number of times. This version is the definitive version of this song! Goosebumps stuff at the crescendo. The whole reworking of Seldom Seen Kid album with Orchestra and choir is a triumph 👌

Hey, I'm absolutely made up you liked this Greg, thanks for reading to this. I've a big grin on my face right now.
That moment with the crescendo as Guy sings "Send up a prayer in my name", that 'Wow' was what I was hoping for, but I also feel like its what the moment deserves too, so powerful and so well done. Its good on the cd version, but this goes to 11.
Elbow are one of those bands where I may not like every song but every album also has a handful of absolute gems where they completely knock it out of the park. This is one of those. I swear Guy Garvey could put emotion or nostalgia or something to make a song about paint drying seem warm and interesting. Though thankfully they have better things to sing about, and the imagery of the lyrics is often relatable.
I don't know with a reaction channel if you give yourselves freedom to hear stuff without recording it incase it comes up or not, I imagine that must be hard at times, or if there is scope for a band reaction with say 3 songs or something, and the variety with all the requests is great, but at some point, do a little more with these guys, a mini elbow journey:
Lippy Kids (I so nearly made this my Kofi request instead), Great expectations, Scattered black & whites, My sad captains, Switching off, Newborn, Open arms, McGregor, Grounds for divorce, Mirrorball, Dear friends, Real life, and other commenters probably have great suggestions I'm forgetting.
A few of these have #Elbowroom's videos on youtube where the recorded them from their houses over video call but they are actually really cool (inc a youth choir for lippy lids).
Anyway, time to stop. Thanks to you both for the reaction.

Oh I just love this. Guy Garvey's soaring vocals always stir something in me. In their music Elbow have this habit of elevating the most mundane, normal, tiny details of life into something celebratory and anthemic. The song seems to be about ambition - the tower crane driver being well paid, but high, aloof and lonely. Gorgeous

I've seen them on three different tours here in NY. I can't believe they play the Bowery Ballroom and Terminal 5 and not Garden and the Barclay's. They do this live without the orchestra. The only voice which compares to Guy's is Peter Gabriel, so intense. Great pick! Please do "New York Morning ", they do a nice reference to Yoko - a Beatles connection for you...

Check out Build A Rocket Boys and the very whimsical The Fix. The deeply philosophical Forget You. Elbow usually take a violinist and a couple of cello players on tour with them. They have done concerts with full orchestras and choirs. Check out Elbow live at Abbey road with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
