  • I was going to get the American release but I didn't want it to be the "Argo". The Japanese version is supposed to be the same in every way except being called the "Yamato". There is a lot of diecast but less than I expected. This chogokin is nice but feels a lot smaller in person. All things considered I think it is quality but overpriced. It is also a pitty the 2199 design has a much narrower Wave Motion Cannon muzzle.

    Can't believe the damn thing costs $400 now! Still tempted to get this. Was a MONSTER fan when I saw this in 5th grade. Amazingly at college I was walking by someone's room and he had a couple posters from the show. My immediate reaction was "MY GOD THAT'S THE COMET EMPIRE!!!" Guy was cool and gave me a couple comics and the movie posters when he found out what a huge fan I was.

    I unwittingly got a US version. It turns out it is exactly the same as the Japanese one. The only differences are a sticker on the front of box covering the Japanese title, a warning sticker to not eat any small parts and a sheet that explains the remote in english. The baseplate still says "Yamato 2199", much to my relief.

    I'm disappointed that the IR receiver on the ship doesn't have those windows glowing green like the bridges do. I like that the alarm makes the bridge lights brighter.

    I bought that same one on eBay yesterday I have never seen a better model of the Yamato such a good design and functions perfectly but it can range from 300 to 500 dollars 💵 if you want it new in the package which is the way I prefer.

    Long term problem I had.
    Took a few years to figure it out. The remote control was intermittent, most times it didn’t work at all, disassembling/debug looking for issues didn’t help. I almost gave up. Ends up remote was weak and couldn’t handle room temperature, once moderately heated up it would work without fail until it cooled off. I bought a ten dollar IR learning remote like for replacing your TV remote, and taught it all the button combos…. 13 of them. So I can enjoy this collectibles FX features again reliably. Hope that helps someone if they have the same problems

    Great review; the quality of your video will be a decision maker for many people that are on the fence with this piece. I will disagree with you on the Yamato girl figures though; Yuki is gorgeous and any collection would do well to have her. Additionally, don't feel too bad about the price; toy collecting never makes sense and spending money is a given; you show a great ship and even at 300 I think it's no more irrational a price as any other collectible...

    I finally bought one of these, and while it's nearly perfect, the rear deck (underneath the third shock cannon) isn't bolted on evenly to the body of the ship and there's something of an awkward gap. Is that normal for this toy?

  • @AlexandreOliveira1974
    @AlexandreOliveira1974 Před 9 lety

    Nice review, congrats. Yes it is small, but it has some nice solutions: I confess I've smiled like a kid with the wave motion gun sound and lights...! When I was a boy I used to 'create' an Argo (in Brazil TV used the American name) with parts of my Mom's vacuum cleaner, she was always mad with me hehe. If I saw something like this toy at that time I'd get completely crazy! Pitty it's so expensive.

    Some pointers/questions:
    -When you install the cannons, it's a good idea to adjust them manually so they rotate in both directions equal amount. I guess the third one that comes pre-installed also comes off.
    -Is the fighter ferris wheel inside a static piece or does it rotate?
    -Does the remote control attach anywhere on the base?
    -Also, why does the big antenna right behind the chimney look like it's slanted backwards? I'm pretty sure the, uh, the bullet shaped thingymabob in the middle is supposed to be streamlined along the ship instead of pointing above the bridge tower - I dunno, I haven't watched 2199.
    Also, lol @ "hasbro junk piece".

    • @jennyc7543
      @jennyc7543 Před 2 lety

      To answer your questions: Yes, the fighter wheel can rotate, no the remote doesn’t attach anywhere on the base, and the giant fin behind the smokestack being slanted is probably a defect on this particular copy.

    I bought one similar to this in 2001 when I lived in Japan. No electronics then but it was 20,000 en. Wasn't 2199, either. I love mine and this makes me miss living there and getting models as they came out. Love my diecast Macross Valkrys I got while there, too.

    Quick question: I’ve been going around looking at some of the promotional images for this particular model and saw that some of the images show the Yamato displayed with the main cannons positioned at different angles (and no I’m not talking about the individual barrels of each cannon), which led me to wonder, is it possible in any way for the turrets to move independently from each other instead of in sync?

    it's a very very cool model, but the only thing that kind of puts me down is the fact I don't really like space! So when it's sort of a hybrid of a modern battleship and a kinda space theme it's just... disappointing, And Yamato is my all time favorite battleship, and ship. But if they did all the cool modern features like the turrets turning with the side switch thing at the bow, and some of the music with the barrels still going up and down manually, but except the back afterburner engines and things, but just make it look like the normal REAL battleship Yamato, and that would have been absolutely AWESOME, and I would DEFINITLY buy it.

    • @kellenwong1321
      @kellenwong1321 Před 3 lety

      You're complaining about the design of the ship despite it being called the *SPACE* Battleship Yamato. It's an old warship revived as a spaceship, so of course it would have energy weapons and giant thrusters. Mind boggling.

    You all are a bunch of nitpick erst. The original Japanese release price is ¥28,080, which is $280.00 American. So, it's not a $200 toy, but a $280.00 toy. Besides, it's over 16 inches long. How big do you want it? For 200 bucks, do you want one to pilot yourselves? A model kit that you have to build and paint yourself that is larger is probably around $200. If you can find one under $280, you should snap it up...
