Vikings sending Justin Jefferson 'mixed signals' about deal | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC

Florio - I believe there is frustration from the Jefferson camp. Me watchings this - I believe there is frustration in the Florio camp
FLORIO is a JINX😆
National media is making something out of nothing while ignoring the actual story.
Chase and JJ are taking the league for a ride and no one wants to report on it.
Please pay him soon and get this done
@@judyreifler848 The Vikings have offered to pay Jefferson. Jefferson doesn't want to be paid is the problem. He's enjoying not playing football. The only person holding up Jefferson's contract is Jefferson.
I’m with him, SKOL
florio is just drumming up unnecessary drama cause media has nothing to talk about the contract talks between the Vikings and jets
Florio is having a meltdown
Florio has reallly leaned into the Vikings fan angle this year lol
does that hurt your feelings?
@@srobeck77 No? Lol you can be a fan of whatever you like. Just saying simms was right that florio was not having an unbiased opinion lol
@@markkostecki4558 everyones opinion is "biased" so u already started off with a lie here. And these "hot takes" are all just "opinions" and predictions, theres no right or wrong answer.
Why do you think it's the Vikings not paying him? Maybe Jefferson knows it will continue to rise, and he's holding out until he can get the max amount 🤔
He challenges/questions kwesi every chance he gets. Why, I have no idea.
JJ’s agent is going for fully guaranteed money. The amount of the contract has already been agreed to.
The Vikes did not low ball him.
He ain't gonna get fully.
As a Lions fan, I fully support the Vikings low balling all Jefferson offers.
He should get traded to the Bengals
@@stellafiebig173 Bengals cant afford him
@@stellafiebig173they didn’t even want to pay their other 2 receivers 😂😂
@@stellafiebig173bangals can’t pay Higgins 😂
Go Lions
Lamb and Chase in same boat. Yeah
Chase told local media in Cincy that he's waiting on Jefferson. Chase has time bc he's a year behind lamb and Jefferson
All 3 of them are waiting on each other, as a Vikings fan and bengals and cowboys fans probably feel the same way it’s getting annoying. One of them just need to sign so the other 2 follow suit im hoping Jefferson is the first but most likely be Chase or Lamb
Yawn. He wasn’t there this time last year either. Non story.
"Penny pinching for a few million dollars more". Wish I had that problem, the money they make to catch a ball has become insane.
It goes way beyond that. What needs to happen is companies need to pay their staff in the same manner sports has been paying their talent. Add on licensing for merchandise with the players name on it and the draw a specific player brings to get butts in seats is why these guys make the money they do. Every franchise is worth over 1 billion so players demanding a larger slice of that pie is a no brainer. These guys make the league and without their product on the field there is no league
Forward down the field. A team that will not yield!
What about the Vikings July 31st policy for signing bonuses? Dont you think it could simply be something like this? They wait until a certain point, due to some complicated accounting process, wherein maybe years down fhe road, it could help them balance cap space?
The NFL hates paying their stars. Weird. Trade him if you don't want him.
Some players like Trey Hendrickson and Haason Reddick sign deals and 6 months later want a new deal. You signed it, play it.
It’s horrible business tbh. Jefferson eclipsed 1,000 yards even after Kirk was injured and with multiple backup QBs and AND he only played 10 games. Like come on Minnesota is playing with fire in a gasoline tunnel
But you don't know that. Florio admitted he doesn't know what's going on in the negotiations. He yelled it loud enough for all of us to hear.
it's madd easy to pay everyone when there's no budget limit
So you definitely dont agree with teams releasing or trading players 2 years into a 4 or 5 year deal. You signed it, pay it. @@yahcrack
They aren't going to let him walk or trade him. They want Jefferson to be the highest paid non-QB in the league, and deservedly so. You have to look at the Vikings' normal timelines for extensions. June and into July are when they typically sign the long-term deals. People are making such a big deal about Jefferson not being there at OTAs, but they seem to forget that he wasn't there for last years' OTAs, either. Enough with the narrative. It's going to get done.
Vikings should've traded him for 2 1's
agreed no wr is worth over 25 mil
@bandit8623 Every top reciver is worth 25 mil. That isn't shit compared to the cap. And it's only going up.
@@joedawg713 I know they all are not worth that much
I would have traded him also. Addison looks like a player. Is he Jefferson? No. But he looks like a number one receiver. Nothing against Jefferson, but from a long-term business standpoint, the best move would have been to trade him if the price was right.
What could rhe Vikes possibly have to gain by waiting on resigning?
who knows, maybe he wants 50 million year?
They already offered him a contract months ago and he turned it down.
It'll get done the money is probably pretty close, it is the rest of the language in the contract. Guaranteed money, trading clause, option years, injuries, bonuses. That stuff.
I will never understand how some teams pay everyone, likes the Chiefs and Eagles, literally multiple players at or near top market for their position. Then there are some teams that are paying nobody, rookie qb, no big paid veterans, then when it’s time to pay their ONE star, they’re cheap and drag their feet. Blows my mind.
Those GMs know how to manipulate the cap. Y’all look at contracts on a basic lvl when really it’s quite a few things that really make contract.
It's also about extensions not new contracts. Pay attention the next time someone gets "paid." It's never a new contract. Great teams use extensions in order to add extra years so the teams can move around the money to be strategic.
they’re probably doing this on purpose so no one else can leapfrog JJ’s contract
They offered him a contract and he turned it down. Shefter already reported that.
Easiest job in the NFL is being somebody else's GM.
Dude is so annoying.
We don’t even know how much he’s asking for.
Yea, but every fan, both the ones in front and behind the camera, does it.
JJ skipped OTA's pretty much every year. He's always had somewhat of a selfish attitude. Definitely a top 3 WR, but I could care less if he stays or goes. I can see pros and cons on both sides.
2:30 Florios all in full blown panic mode as a Vikings fan, and Simms is just twisting the knife lol😆
Vikings always talk trash about how packers only have 2 superbows with rodgers ans favre. But nobody talks about how many great WRS the vikings had and they all left the team in their prime lol
…..you do realize Hall of Fame QBs are more valuable than Hall of Fame WRs right? It’s not even comparable
Not true; Cris Carter, Anthony Carter, Adam Thielen, Ahmad Rashad, Sidney Rice.. all were in their prime with Vikings. You can argue Moss’ best stretch in career was as a Vikings, not a Patriot
@@TheChillee diggs. Moss. Most likely jefferson too now hahahaha
@@izik7220Diggs has been far from his prime do you even know how to watch football??
I think the answer to signing star wide outs is the model right now, no more 5 years deals I think it 3 year deals so that person can get more contract chances.
They did the same thing with cousins, he should walk and the gm fired, last year's draft picks are all busts as well
Love listening to you guys, but can you please use a high pass filter when recording! Hearing you pounding on the desk with my headphones on makes me think some one is knocking on my door 😂🤣
Well, since you admitted you don't know what's going on in the negotiations, not sure why you're upset. Good on Simms trying to calm down Florio.
Florio is going to have a stroke on one of these pods one day. Drama queen-ness will catch up with him.
Maybe he’s upset about what isn’t happening
I fully support this happening 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I'm a Viking fan for about 50 years. Maybe, he a closeted fan? We're all frustrated.
Takes two people to sign a contract Florio. JJ doesn't want to attend off season workouts or the first few days of training camp. Nothing to do with the Vikings. JJ had too much contact with Cousins and the selfishness has rubbed off.
Dude On the left thirsty as hell lmaoooo
Florio always sounds like the whiny employee with the comments just as the meeting should be breaking up for the day.
JJettas about to get 40 million but I think he’s not sure of McCarthy
Maybe Jefferson can show up for practice and test the waters before signing a contract or demanding a trade.
@@bradleymaravalli2851 LOL .. that's not how it works??
I think he wants 50 million
I'm not a expert, but there is no way someone would pay a receiver who depends on a QB to be successful, top of the line QB money 😂@@opvikes7599
@@opvikes7599it’s not annual average that’s the problem. It’s the gurantees and rightfully so. Paying a non qb a fully guranteed contract has never been done before for a large amount
Florio having a meltdown as if it's not likely JJ is the one delaying to let the market develop
Mike, I get it. I am a Vikings fan as well, and wish the contract was done, but they obviously are working pretty hard on it. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if the main parameters are done and they are just waiting to announce on the first day he comes back to OTAs/Camp this summer. This way they can have JJ in the building and do a big signing video and everything else around it. I will be shocked if the deal isn't done this summer.
Calm down! It's only OTA.
JJ should sign 1yr or 2yr contracts so he can be a top 5 paid wr.
Kevin O’Connell and Kwesi have a much far better understanding of the Jefferson “situation” than y’all ever will, they seem perfectly fine and content, almost like they know a deal is going to get done before training camp. Everything right now is voluntary, he didn’t show up this time last year either 🤷♂️
Also, Sam Darnold is starting the season and will likely play most of it….
JJ spotted in New Jersey!!!
He was seen near the Wilf's corporate headquarters.
wow you’re such a noticer
@@jameshoops10 I'll give you a notice.
He also has some paternity case going on in that area of New Jersey.
16:36 tbh diggs was WR2 when he was in MIN. Theilen was always pretty great when he was the one
3 years 105m.
Vikings are playing with fire. Addison is a young budding talent but to let Jefferson walk away when you need a all star Proven WR now more than ever with a new QB coming in is craziness
Which All pro wide receiver did Patrick mahomes throw two last year? Oh wait they got rid of Tyreek Hill 2 years ago and one two super bowls. Next
@@TyreeTravelshorrible analogy. Mahomes and McCarthy aren’t even in the same universe of talent. Stop it bro😂😂
@@TyreeTravelsthe greatest tight end of all time
Florio has his inner Veruca Salt on full display in this one.
What about bonuses?
The price to extend JJ goes up every week.
It is interesting that he has the most amount of receiving yards with 1800 yards and he only has 7 catches each game....... with 10 targets. Down field blocking is super important with receivers to spring them for 6 .... TEAM ... together each accomplishes more ......
Uhh Mike it isn’t stupid if they plan on trading Jefferson. It isn’t stupid if they just let him play in the 5th year option. It’s not stupid if they plan on franchise tagging him next year.
Jefferson is not Randy Moss so I would Not pay him QB money... He has a few circus catches and a ton of kirk cousins garbage time yards and stats.
This team survived without Diggs and it will survive if jefferson is
traded.
The vikings need to use that money to fill other needs and holes.
The vikings were 1- 4 at the beginning of last season with jefferson in the lineup so what does that say? A wr never has been the deciding factor on a team getting a championship..its a luxury if everthing else is there. KC chiefs won after moving on from Tyreek Hill but Hill didnt get Miami to a SB.
Get the point?
So many dumb assumptions lol. We’ll be fine. We’ll sign him post June, as we’ve done with others similarity, as well as with his agent.
I love the Vikings for blowing this.
As I've asked in a previous video about this subject: How do we know it isn't Jefferson holding up the negotiations? Perhaps the Vikings are doing all they can, and Jefferson is waiting out all the other Receiver deals to make sure he gets the most????? I don't doubt Mike Florio has more inside knowledge than I do, but from what I see/hear, it appears to me that Jefferson's Agent is the one dragging this out.....
that's exactly what's happening, simply waiting for the other wr's to get theirs first.
No there not. Florio talking through his ass as usual.
What Florio doesn't understand is JJ is in no rush. He wants to see CEEDEE's deal and other potential deals. He will sign when he has to and the time it has to get done by is training camp
The hold up is Justin Jefferson now wants an extra 50 mill per for losing his nickname.
Might as well sign him while you have a rookie QB 🤷♂️ bad look you pay the dudes you draft
They offered him a contract and he turned it down months ago. Florio needs content
Who else are they saving the money for? This is the guy. Use it or lose it.
I fully believe the owners are about to attempt a reset of WR salaries like they did with RBs last off season
As a Vikings fan I'm 100% with Florio on this. The ownership should know you got to pay to play, I hope they realize this they bragged about how they grew up as Giants fans. Okay so you should know football and how contracts work,,,,,,,,PAY THE MAN.
I would offer Jefferson 32.5 a year. Take it or leave it. He would be the highest paid WR then. If not then you are playing on the option and then getting franchise tagged so get ready.
It’s not annual average that’s the issue. It’s the gurantees in the contract
Why are you all assuming that's the Vikings that are not getting the deal done, how about JJ and his agent are waiting to see what everybody else signs, so that he gets the highest deal.
Vikings fan here. We have no superstars outside Jefferson. All these teams can throw huge money at their best players, but we can't pay 1 guy the money he deserves? Shameful.
As a lions fan, I hope it costs them 40 mill minimum.
Just give the man his 35M a year and not sour a realationship.
I wish the bills wouldve offered him something, granted our money is tied up untik 2025 but it isnt ungeard of to extend a contracts value into the following year
This is on Kwesi should have gotten this deal done last off season! There paying 29 million dead money for Kirk!
Maybe they are waiting for Chase and Lamb to sign deals just so they can for sure make him the highest paid?
Floria is such a baby lol
This is "ownership's call" the Wilfs gotta get their New Jersey banks to raise the money in their stock portfolio, it's gonna get done in July😎
"Just pay the guy"
Since when is 20 million per year not getting paid. What a world.
So many Stars are unpaid they are the reason teams win and a big reason why fans watch. Pay them as early as possible otherwise bad will and costs more money
jj camp ain’t stupid they knew cap was gonna go up
Only 2 wr on that top 10 earnings list have a superbowl trophy. Crazy how much wrs who have accomplished really nothing get paid.
Florio my man…calm down. This is normal lol
has it ever occurred to Florio that both sides are waiting so that JJ can be the undisputed highest paid WR?
I wonder is it becoming more then money with high value guys big stars they seem to be wanting more control no tag clause no trade clause more control of there careers because if they preform the money will come were ever they go some team will pay what ever the player wants if that's the player they want I think the teams dnt want to lose control like they have in cousins an daks contracts imagine jefferson an tyreek ceedee having no tag not trade clause
Has Florio ever heard the phrase "it takes two to tango" in his entire life?
San Francisco should give Brock Purdy a early contract extension right now while they can still keep him under that 40 million dollar level for the next 4 years...
The NHL is fully garunteed contracts. By the way did you watch the Canucks Oilers 7 game series. The NHL is just as dangerous as football. They do have a salary cap wrinkle, if a player is hurt and out 20 games apx 25% of the season, the salary does not count against the cap. The player still gets paid, but you can replace him for that time. This helps garunteed money
The NHL also does a fraction of the views and business
He don't want em in florham Park
4 year $140 million deal. It’ll get done during the 1st week of June.
No receiver is worth 34 mil a year. They should have traded him prior to draft. Kwesi is f’ing this up.
Take it to the franchise tag. He likely wants a short deal where you can’t tag and can’t trade him. Don’t agree to that. Let him hold out
He was there the next day & the day after...
just waiting on Lamb and Chase to be signed first, and then he'll get his after so he can be the top paid wr
You think his agents are stupid? Of course they’re going to hold out because everyone knows it’s going to be more expensive as time goes on. It’s in Jefferson’s best interest to hold out and reject any offers the Vikings give him
He’s probably been advised to hold out as long as possible, to get maximum value. All the other dudes getting paid only helps his negotiation. Don’t think it’s on the Vikings entirely.
If they paid cousins I get it but they now have a qb on a rookie deal
I disagree….you want other receivers contracts to get locked up so jefferson is confident in the value of the contract he signs and then you also want to see all offers so that you as an organization have a full idea of what a good offer is
Feel ok about it until start of season, and we have up and coming Addison break out year
Why do I have to listen to florio to hear simms
Wow Florio is in meltdown mode
Yo my name is Quacy lol
Kwesi
If they don't want to get jumped by teams paying their players more than them when they sign that longer-term deal then sign one or two years every time instead of signing these three or four year deals and wanting quote security
If Tee signs his deal, does that maybe affect a trade for Jefferson? Maybe that’s what the two teams are waiting for?
The deal will be official by training camp. The Vikings probably already have it drawn up and ready for Jefferson to sign. They're just waiting to see where the cap number will be prior to the extension.
Minnesota sucks and Jefferson wants out
I think either ownership is telling Jefferson, hang tight, we love you. We want you to make more than Chase ……or the GM is thinking….if we give monster money to Jefferson, Addison will start squawking. Within 2 years we’re gonna be loaded down with the drama of the premadonna wide receiver show. I say, send a Solid message to the rest of the team and trade Jefferson for 2 first round picks. They must understand we are a team, this is not a beauty contest. We need to win one game after another. We can make history and finally bring a Superbowl trophy to Minnesota. That is our goal.
Imagine having
Randy moss
Cris Carter
Justin Jefferson
Stefon Diggs
Jordan Addison
Adam Thielen
Adrian Peterson
Jarred Allen
Danielle hunter
In not winning a Super Bowl or even making one with those guys.
You gotta pay him 35ML per year maybe more.
If I’m Justin Jefferson I’m asking for 40ML+ easily
Stop he waiting for ceedee then he gon get the biggest bag 😂
It’s f_cking May
Poor Florio has an East Coast mentality as a fan of a spineless midwestern team. He's always going to be disappointed with the Vikes!
Simms please leave this guy he don’t deserve you
Florio is overreacting. As a Vikings fan, I want JJ to get signed ASAP, but I'm sure there there's a lot to go over on a contract that large. And McCarthy is currently playing with the threes in OTAs, so he and JJ wouldn't even be practicing together yet.
I like how Flores always blames the team. As if the Vikings aren't offering Jefferson the best contract on the market.
Vikings front office has been very incompetent the last few years. He’s got then by the balls 🏈 🏈
How do you know what's on the table???
I know this sounds crazy, but if you really look at $ verses situation; the MIN organization would come out WAY on top if they structured a deal to trade JJ correctly. There's not a single receiver that won a Super Bowl just because they made the only difference. I think he's behaved like a great person. I think he's in the top 3 (arguably ) best receivers within the past 10 years in the NFL. That has never won a Super Bowl. There is no sample size to suggest it would.
